Anime Girls originally had an actual topic. Then it got taken over by G-Hawk and everybody started spamming till it became bloated and pointless. NG's biggest topic was then started because of it as some sort of longest post competition.

As for being a "n00b", I guess I am but that has nothing to do with the topic.

I like PS2 better. However, Gamecube looks cool too. But I like the versatility of the PS2:

-Let's you play PS1 games.
-Don't need to pay 50 bucks extra to play DVDs.
-Get to play "Gradius 3 and 4", "Capcom vs SNK 2", "MGS2" and hopefully "FFX". :)

Now if only Capcom made "Project Justice" for PS2.

Exactly. Another reason gamecube is bad, it doesn't even use full DVDs. They're some sort of smaller, custom disc that doesn't hold as much. If you're gonna make a dis based system, then use the best!

When Nintendo was hyping it before it came out, they kept talking about how they were creating a quality system dedicated to gaming only. Basically, it doesn't have any extra features and they're trying to spin that as a good attribute. What are they thinking? Of course their target market, kids under 12 (or so I think based on their games), would probably never use things ling the ability to play DVD movies, link devices together, play online and browse the net from their system, add USB devices, or ever need the future expansion options such as a hard drive. All of these things PS2 has! Not to mention a cool, slim design.

. . . and strangely enough, that all happened after the first post in each topic. :D But really, joking aside, The Anime babes thread should be closed if people keep on using goatse pics and/or rotton.com pics. Many Worlds seems to be the general consensus

shall we discuss quantum foam?

Then there's Zelda, way past its prime. Majora's Mask was a big dissapointment.

And did I mention, MORE MARIO!

And another Starfox. Makes you wonder if Nintendo has any original ideas or developers?

if you build the best system, they will come (and indeed they are)

I love my Xbox. Try to take it away from me and replace it with an inferior PS2 and I will shoot ya

It is technically better but then again it's made by Microsoft (insert evil laugh here). No way they're gonna give out too many of their precious liscenses. Sony already has great games and partnerships with 3rd party developers, companies like Square and Konami.

As for X-Box, it is Microsoft raping you!

Response to: Transcendentalist Philosophy Posted February 2nd, 2002 in General

At 2/2/02 02:59 AM, EntropicOrder wrote: Someone please explain transcendentalism to me, as I am not familiar with the term, although I love philosophy.

If it assumes that there is inherent good in all people, then I wouldn't really go with it because I don't believe in right and wrong. We are capable of all things human, and none of these are evil or riteous to anything other than humans.

------------------------------------------------------

The Enlightenment had come to new rational conclusions about the natural world, mostly based on experimentation and logical thinking. The pendulum was swinging, and a more Romantic way of thinking -- less rational, more intuitive, more in touch with the senses -- was coming into vogue. Those new rational conclusions had raised important questions, but were no longer enough.

German philosopher Kant raised both questions and insights into the religious and philosophical thinking about reason and religion.

This new generation looked at the previous generation's rebellions of the early 19th century Unitarians and Universalists against traditional Trinitarianism and against Calvinist predestinationarianism. This new generation decided that the revolutions had not gone far enough, and had stayed too much in the rational mode. "Corpse-cold" Emerson called the previous generation of rational religion.

The spiritual hunger of the age that also gave rise to a new evangelical Christianity gave rise, in the educated centers in New England and around Boston, to an intuitive, experiential, passionate, more-than-just-rational perspective. God gave humankind the gift of intuition, the gift of insight, the gift of inspiration. Why waste such a gift?

Added to all this, the scriptures of non-Western cultures were discovered in the West, translated, and published so that they were more widely available. The Harvard-educated Emerson and others began to read Hindu and Buddhist scriptures, and examine their own religious assumptions against these scriptures. In their perspective, a loving God would not have led so much of humanity astray; there must be truth in these scriptures, too. Truth, if it agreed with an individual's intuition of truth, must be indeed truth.

And so Transcendentalism was born. In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "We will walk on our own feet; we will work with our own hands; we will speak our own minds...A nation of men will for the first time exist, because each believes himself inspired by the Divine Soul which also inspires all men."

(from www.transcendentalism.com )
-------------------------------------------------------

Transcendentalism doesn't assume that all people are good, even inherently. It is a search for truth and meaning that states that the foremost aspect of the truth begins within yourself. Look into yourself for your own answers and inspiration rather than take them second hand from somebody else. That is what Emerson meant when he wrote of self-reliance in his famous essay.

X-Box vs. PS2 Posted February 2nd, 2002 in General

So which is better? X-Box or PS2? I'm not even including Gamecube because it has nothing more than remakes of over-done N64 series' and is intended for nobody over the age of 10.

Personally, I prefer PS2 for its game selection and multiple functions and uses. It also looks nice and fits nearly anywhere. As for graphics, PS2 may be technically inferior, but I think it looks just as smooth and complex as X-Box.

What do you think?

Not necessarily.

"Man is timid and apologetic; he is no longer upright; he dares not say 'I think,' 'I am,' but quotes some saint or sage. He is ashamed before the blade of grass or the blowing rose. These roses under my window make no reference to former roses or to better ones; they are for what they are; they exist with God to-day. There is no time to them. There is simply the rose; it is perfect in every moment of its existence. Before a leaf-bud has burst, its whole life acts; in the full-blown flower there is no more; in the leafless root there is no less. Its nature is satisfied, and it satisfies nature, in all moments alike. But man postpones or remembers; he does not live in the present, but with reverted eye laments the past, or, heedless of the riches that surround him, stands on tiptoe to foresee the future. He cannot be happy and strong until he too lives with nature in the present, above time."

-Ralph Waldo Emerson, Self Reliance
