It's widely accepted by all the game magazines and sites that the XBOX is the best bet if you're buying a console.

The PS2 is only an option nowadays if you plan on buying 100 games all at once. But, who has that kind of money.

What were you smokin when you thought that? Of course you wouldn't buy 100 games at once, but PS2 has a greater selection to choose from, Ace Combat, FFX, MGS2, Spy Hunter, Half-Life, GTA3, etc. They have good developers that produce top-notch games.

X-Box has, hmmm... let me think for a moment... Halo! And ummm... Halo, and there's also... Oddworld. And did I mention... Halo.

Response to: A brand new philosophical theory Posted February 7th, 2002 in General

If there was good but no evil, then how would you define good? There must be evil as a frame of reference.

As for your comment about the possibility of your mind simply creating delusions around you, it is very possible. Read some quantum physics. The observer is critical and depending on what interpretation of quantum theory, Copenhagen, MWI or TI, then you do shape the universe around by your observations and thought.

All of this is backed up by a complicated heap of math and direct experimental evidence, it has been proved to be true or at least very likely.

These interpretations of reality can best be described through the Schrodinger's Cat thought experiment. If you place a cat in a box along with a radioactive element and a geiger counter set to detect if the element decays within a certain period of time so that the chance of decay happening to it not happening is 50:50. If the decay happens, a jar of cyanide is opened and the cat dies, if not, it lives. You wait for an hour and then open the box. Is the cat dead or alive?

Because of Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, quantum particles have no definite position, they exist as a cloud of possible locations and velocities. If so then how do the possibilites get interpreted into a clear reality? There are three major interpretations (explanations), described below.

The Copenhagen interpretation says that the cat is neither until you look. The future is just shades of probability, "ghost realities" that only come into definite reality when you observe. "Observing" is doing anything that would require a reaction or feedback from the universe, i.e. thinking, seeing, smelling, touching, just about anything. Copenhagen also inevitably lends itself to solipsism, the belief that you're the only real thing, a sort of consciousness, and that everything else is just a delusion that your mind creates around you, possibly including yourself! Sorta like the Matrix but no machines or computers running the show, only you.

MWI, the Many Worlds Interpretation, which I prefer, says that every time a quantum decision has to be made, like whether the cat is dead or alive when you look, that the universe splits into different copies, parrallel universes where each one represents a different possibility. In one universe the cat lives, in the other, the cat dies. And no it has been proven impossible to pass between the myriad universes so no parrallel dimension stories. The universe does this for every possible quantum decision everywhere in it so there are so many different universes that they would need to invent names for the massive numbers of them. Each of those universes then splits into massive numbers of copies of themselves as every quantum possibility is played out.

Where are these parallel universes? They all exist in super-spacetime, like normal spacetime but sort of like a "higher plane" of existence, outside reality and all the universes. The perfect place of existence for a God. The laws of physics have no bearing there just like they break down at the point of a singularity like the Big Bang or a black hole core. These are holes is spacetime, which is the combination of time and space, 4 dimensions. It is impossible to notice the splitting because of something called the Anthropic Principle which can get complicated so I won't explain it here. Look it up if you're interested.

TI, the Transactional Interaction is a newer theory, introduced in the 90s, that says that essentially there is no free will, the course of reality is set. Before you even look in the box, the contents of the box essentially send out an "offer-wave" into super-spacetime. When you look, your eye sends out a wave too. The path along which the waves mesh together is the course that reality follows. I don't know enough about this one to fully explain it.

Physics has to be the most interesting of the sciences. As Ernest Rutherford once said, "All science is either physics or stamp collecting."

So you don't like Microsoft just because of Windows? Man, you ARE pathetic. I'll bet that's also why you wouldn't get an Xbox, right? Windows is incredibly stable considering the fact that it has to handle millions more hardware/software configurations than the Mac has to, give'em a break!

I don't hate Microsoft, and I think Windows is a good product, in fact I'm using Win98 right now. I just mentioned that it is very buggy, it crashes once or twice a day on me.

As for X-Box, I don't like it because I think that for your money, the better option is PS2 which has a bigger library of games, good developers that will continue to develop great titles, lots of versatility and functions and the graphics (in my opinion) are just as good as X-Box, so I really see no reason to take my chances with Microsoft's new venture when I've used Sony for years! PSX/PS1 was great and PS2 plays all the old PSX games too.
