Ok the bridge was a neato idea, but at the same time I think the crack can be sending an important message as it is. The alleged pretentiousness of the artist's 'meaning' aside, people need to be able to recognize the divides and the cracks different people face in society,
Yes-but that does'nt mean that you should focus on things like that-the world is full of problems-but they are shrinking all the time.
Out of sight out of mind. Perhaps problems are shrinking, but I think such an in your face reminder of cracks in society could help people keep an open mind when they're faced with the problems of our society in their lives.
Another thing is that while the realistic problem highlighted by the piece is true (but as I said-getting less and less all the time) It offers no obvious way to solve them-cue the bridge :D
Yea you're right about that, that's why I offered the compromising middle ground of them both having good meaning you can take away from them.
I'm just trying to be open minded about the symbolism of the crack in the floor, maybe trying to avoid the bandwagon polarization of the bridge is good the crack is bad, when they can both have relevant meaning.
Listen-If you're so determined to be pessimistic and look at the worst side of everything, you could point out that the bridge is tiny compared to the overall crack (but I'd like to see you get a 20-foot long bridge past the security guards)
Where's the pessimism? The crack offers a reminder of the major divides and issues that still exist, maybe keeping some of these things in mind will be good for people. Stop trying to argue with me, I'm not offering a conflicting view point, in no way am I saying that problems should be rammed into our heads, nor am I saying that we shouldn't concentrate on solutions. I'd say looking at the crack as an evil pointless reminder of world issues is pessimistic. Sorry if I don't look at the bridge as toppling the evil crack. The bridge is a good statement, but the crack can be a good statement to make as well.
