Topic: I'm buying a new bowling ball

At 2/10/08 04:18 PM, Searp3nt wrote: WTF is the small thing next to the bowling ball?

Looks like a hazel nut. Mmmmm, cashew nut.

Yeah, it's a cut-away of the ball to see the shape of the core. I don't really give a fuck about that, lol. I think it's just for reference for ball drillers and manufacturers and what-not. It's the results of the roll tests that should be displayed in those images. What kinda bugs me is how different companies put up different terms and stats to describe the performance of the ball. I got my info on the ball performance from a bowling magazine that has all the new balls for 2008. There are only a couple other balls that have similar test numbers, one being the Roto Grip Illusion and the Lane #1 Supernova XP, though the Illusion looks like wet ass on a rusty plate and the Supernova XP is too damn expensive. (On sale! $174!) Looks nice, though.

It would be awesome to have a Newgrounds ball. If it were to happen, I'd suggest Tom and Co. work with Brunswick's Viz-A-Ball line. It's a bit pricey for the consumer due to vanity balls being non-reactive plastic balls that don't create much friction and barely hook unless you come around on it with two fingers (no thumb), but for NG fans in wanting a spare ball or for fuck-around bowlers wanting to do it for teh lulz, it seems feasible that NGers would buy it. Or they could make some crazy-ass awesome grass roots do-it-yourself high performance ball for fun, but I don't know how they'd go about manufacturing one, lol. They'd have to make a core from scratch too because of the core technology patents, I'd presume. Yeah, that whole scenario probably isn't going to happen, heh.

Looks like the Rival is winning handily here. That settles it! :D

To celebrate my future purchase of one COLUMBIA 300 RIVAL, some delicious copypasta.

You know all about the great rivalries in sports. Michigan and Ohio State, Cards and Cubs, Yankees and Red Sox. Introducing the Rival. It has no competition. On medium to heavy oil this ball will leave the competition shaking their heads. Check this one out: this Rival is the best of everything you need. A benchmark ball that picks up in the middle of the lane and never quits.

Fuck yeah.

The Rival is winning hard here. ^_^

To the guy who said to use house balls, lol, I'm a 190 average bowler. ;) I don't use conventional finger holes, and you can't exactly score consistantly with lane balls that aren't customized to your hand. I'm looking to improve my average up to 200 in a year or two, and the Rival is looking hella sweet.

Yes, the Rival is quite nice. I'm leaning to Rival with overall feeling, though the Raid is slightly better stat-wise because it has slighty higher length before the breakpoint and a slighty sharper breakpoint, and my bowling center tends to apply med-high volumes of oil. I'll check with the proshop for an opinion, but I really prefer the Rival colors, and the differences are fairly minimal between the two. It's not like I couldn't adjust my speed and angle like usual anyway if the lane oil starts to break down.

Which one? Both are similarly priced with specs suited to my game. I just can't decide on logo/color. Which one are you feeling?

Left - Ebonite Raid
Right - Columbia 300 Rival

Secret of Evermore, animated full length feature, titled "Return to Evermore". The boy has a girlfriend, who owns a cat. They return to Evermore via a secret hidden transporter (those bug machines with the zappy eyes) to stop a new villian from using Evermore (knew about the second entrance point as well) to build an army of robots to overthrow the real world. The villian gets his funds from very wealthy people who he keeps in Evermore to enjoy their warped/innocent fantasies. (ex. Psycho German history buff wants to recall WW2 and have Axis win, another wealthy person may want to see a world where the Native Americans and the Colonists coexisted with true peace to form an alternate present, etc.) All the former lands can still exist, plus the new lands added by the wealthy contributors. The new villian gets a huge mechanical fortress island, connected to every land, like a highway.

Make a game, too. OH REAH.

I'd have more of a reason to get a 360 if I were to purchase one of them. RE5, my brother likes C&C, and there are some other games I'd be interested in playing, like Lost Planet and some others. I'm really not into sports and racing games... And I don't care about movies, so PS3 is a black airplane hangar of fail for me. I've never played an MGS game, so MGS4 hype is completely over my head, and FF13... meh, stopped caring about FF at FF9.

Seeing as I don't have an HDTV and don't particularly care to own one, RE5 Wii would be secks. But if it doesn't happen, the 360 version will be awesome anyways.

hmmm, honestly, nothing about nexgen video game graphics has "absolutely stunned" me. Even when the real bangers come out for those systems, it's still not going to impress me.

Gameplay = 40%
Control = 30%
Graphics = 15%
Sound = 15%

Far too often, people let graphics have a disproportionate totaling of the games worth. Like Game Informer Magazine, giving Lair a 7.25, with a second opinion of 8. They agreed that the controls were unwieldly, the gameplay was balls, and that the game wasn't anywhere close to as fun as it should have been. If that's the case, then why a 7.25? It should be in like a 4-6 range. The "amazing" graphics and sound work to up the score, but that's only 30%. the deficiencies described in the review don't make sense torwards the score. Even if we attributed it's gameplay worth and control worth to half of the total points attainable (20% and 15%) it still doesn't add up to a 7.25.

The review says, "oh we agree with everyone that the game is balls." The score says, "MMMPH, WE'RE SORRY, IT'S HARD TO SPEAK WITH SONY'S DELICIOUS COCK IN OUR THROATS."

Here's what I did in my open period today:

Shit It Out

Yeah, here we go for the hundredth time
A liquid rumble on my mind
Chance at a new life on the line
Far away from feeling fine

Filthy stall, no excuse
Wish my body would just hang loose
Pray for help from Dr. Seuss
To help me lay this brick and juice

Truth is I've done this to myself
Broke my ass when I was a whelp
Held it in for weeks I felt
Poison never calls for help

Yeah, that was in the past
Painful moments coming fast
Memories to forever last
But a grown man learns to deal

I shit it out pushing harder
Just to flush it away
I shit it out pushing harder
Just to flush it away
I shit it out pushing harder
Just to flush it away

Just to flush it away
Just to flush it away
I shit it out

Go, lock the door
Grip the walls and stomp the floor
Moan and strain just like a whore
Lift those cheeks and groan some more

It's timing is always worst
Situations always forced
Mind and body act divorced
Just trying to Par the course

Rip and tear, scream and squirt
Force that dead body to work
Sirens blare "ABORT, ABORT"
Scratching for your bold retort

Praise yourself all that you can
For souls left in the porcelain
The whole damn world can understand
'Cause a grown man learns to deal

I shit it out pushing harder
Just to flush it away
I shit it out pushing harder
Just to flush it away
I shit it out pushing harder
Just to flush it away

Just to flush it away
Just to flush it away
I shit it out

I've opened up this scar
On my sore anus
I pushed and strained so hard
I'll make you, eat, this, now!

I shit it out pushing harder
Just to flush it away
I shit it out pushing harder
Just to flush it away
I shit it out pushing harder
Just to flush it away

Just to flush it away
Just to flush it away

I shit it out pushing harder
Just to flush it away
I shit it out pushing harder
Just to flush it away
I shit it out pushing harder
Just to flush it away

Just to flush it away
Just to flush it away

I shit it out
I shit it out
I shit it out

I liked Super Jail, but Drinky Crow was fucking terrible. What was the show with the two guys in the boat? That was great, too. The other live action show was okay, and the David Banner cartoon was okay, but Drinky Crow failed it hard. I mean, the only time I laughed was when Drinky was flying around drunk with one of those soda six-pack rings around his neck.

Yeah, I love the Strike games, this isn't news to me. Still cute, though.

Jungle Strike and Nuclear Strike are the best games in the series, IMO. Jungle Strike has the awesome D.C. levels where you get points for blowing up the I.R.S. Headquarters and such, as well as a great mission accomplished screen, and Nuclear Strike has that idiot Co-pilot from Soviet Strike getting eaten by a tiger, (WOOT) AND an absolutely epic full out war on the Korean DMZ that you really have to see to believe. Plus, in Nuclear Strike and Soviet Strike, the guy who played that one villian from The Secret World of Alex Mac is your boss in these games. :D Damn, what's he been up too, lately?

Gamecube controller, problem solved. I'm playing it with the gcn pad, man I forgot how awesome this game is. I foolishly traded it in along with mischief makers. The rumble was cool, but I can live without it. No control problems for me. I don't see the classic controller as a necessity.

I can't wait for them to get some real bangers on the VC, like Legend of the Mystical Ninja, Blast Corps, Actraiser, TMNT 3 Manhattan Project, Landstalker, Contra Hard Corps, Jungle Strike, Formula One Built-To-Win!, etc.

I was very pleased with myself when, on my most recent outing through RE4, I was able to make enough money in one run, from scratch, on pro, to fully upgrade all of my weapons plus the specials. I had the Red 9, Killer 7, Striker, Semi-Auto Rifle with Scope, and the Mine Launcher. It was super close, too, I got enough money for the final upgrade on the Killer 7 right at the final merchant. I don't really know or care if it's any kind of amazing accomplishment, but I'm happy regardless.

Yup, wait for him to run up to you, then as he attacks, Magnum knee shot then head shot is the best strategy for Kreuser on top of the castle. Before that, knife fight.

The best strategy for the El Gigante you meet in the two paths junction is to muscle him down with a grenade and shotgun, then instead of just knifing him, first shoot the parasite with your pistol a few times before jumping on to knife it, or alternatively use your rifle. This guarantees that the second time you bring him down, you will be able to knife him to death for the finish. If you are a gifted button masher, yes, it's possible to get enough hits to kill him with the knife in two cycles, but it's pretty hard for me. As long as you don't shoot the parasite with the rifle first, you can combo some damage in with the pistol. Makes everything easier.

Damn April Fools, I can tolerate missing this show, though I'm a little miffed to not see Eureka SeveN. I can only watch a couple episodes of PHF before my brain starts shutting down. They showed the motorcycle episode pretty early, which is one of my favs, so I'm kinda happy, but in no way does playing PHF with "subtitles" beat Motoko ripping farts in the conference room and the wheelchair girl ascending the stairs. <3

You know what AS needs to show? Planetes. I've heard some cool things about that show.
