My god...I honsetly can't tell if you're a total asshole or if you really are just that ignorant. What we're trying to tell you is not "a crock of shit," it's true! The vast majority of poor people are poor because they can't help it. Seriously. Talk to ANYONE. It's as close to a fact as you can get. Putting in a effort really doesn't count for shit in life unless you have the resources you need and the people to help you get somewhere. Are you saying we shouldn't help starving people in Africa? Do you think it's their fault that they're like that? It's the exact same thing. I don't know if you're trying to sound arrogant and spoiled, but you do. You need to realize that life sucks and that many people really are stuck in poverty. I'm really having a hard time responding to this actually, because I honestly don't understand how anyone could believe that those who are poor are such because of their own fault and that effort is all that's required in life. That's a very naive and idyllic view of life that in reality turns out to be blatantly false.
We're talking about what's best for America, not Africa. Africa sucks and if you're poor, then you stay poor. America is different. If you want to be successful in life then you try hard in school, get scholarships/student loans to go to college, and then get a decent salary job. When applying for a job they won't look at your bank account and say, "Oh, this guy is poor. We only give good jobs to rich people because this is America." No, if you're qualified for the job and better than everyone else applying, then you get the job.
I'm also not sounding arrogant and spoiled. I'm sounding like someone who actually did something with my life instead of blaming society for keeping me down. World of difference.
What, are you saying we shouldn't try to make things better because everyone isn't completely screwed over yet? The system DOESN'T work. So go ahead, call me whiny, say me and everyone else who agrees with me is just "bitching." But the point remains that the economy sucks, nobody has health care, and something needs to be done.
I have health care. Hell, even my friend who lives in a trailer park has health care. I believe only 15% of the country is without health care. That's a hell of a lot different than "nobody has health care". Also, you are being a whiny bitch by saying society is keeping you down. If you spent some time hitting the books in school instead of messing around then you'd be fine.
Who should then? This is the modern age, we're not gonna have some Robin Hood save the world for us. Those who make more than ten times the national average income should be willing to give up at least some of their massive fortune to help the next generation achieve a better quality of life, and if they aren't I think the government has every right to "steal it from them."
No one should have the right to steal out money. That's the point I was trying to make. If someone wants to donate their money, then great. If someone doesn't wan to, then that's also fine.
Ugh...I'm not a loser. I don't "want something for nothing." I am doing something with my life, and part of that does include discussing with other people alternatives to the current system that could potentially be of greater benefit to the American people. Your Ad Hominem also does nothing to further your point, which seems to be simply that everyone who is screwed over, and everyone who cares that others are screwed over is automatically a whiny loser who doesn't do anything and mooches off of the government. This is obviously false. I can't believe you actually hold these opinions, I'm almost praying that you are just a troll.
...erm, I never said everyone who is starting out in life is a whiny bitch. I said those who complain about not being able to do anything better are whiny bitches because of the complaining part. If you didn't complain then you'd just be a normal person who I wouldn't mind. If you complain about how society is keeping you down then yes, you are a whiner.
Also, I know a guy who's 28 and enrolled in some classes at a local community college. He told me that he wants McCain in office because he only makes $30k now, but he's looking towards the future when he knows he'll be making $250k+ a year, and he doesn't want his money being stolen then. I believe wholeheartedly that he will succeed in life because it's his goal to. Do you see the difference between that guy and you?
So because SOME poor people have SOME of the things necessary to survive, that means that everyone must be doing fine? You can't just ignore all the world's problems and hope they magically go away.
We're talking about the US, not the world. Our poor people are fat. There's no such thing as a fat poor person by definition, yet we have them. Yes, we're doing just fine over here. Other countries aren't as fortunate, but as far as I'm concerned, they can help themselves for the time being.
You are an idiot. I know I seem like a hypocrite after pointing out your own ad hominem, but that's really what it comes down to. Poor people are not poor because they don't try. Not everyone even has the opportunity to go to school, let alone the incredibly small percentage of Americans that can actually afford to attend college. Not everyone can get a scholarship, and student loans often push people even further into debt. Everyone is not as privileged as you are, and getting a roommate does not solve everything.
Then enroll in the army and get college for free.
