Thanks for all the advice. :) I'll work more on practising FBF. (I mean, I use the Nintendo DS's "Flipbook" application all the time, I don't see why I couldn't do it in Flash, right? XD)
Alright, I'm hearing some excellent help. :)
Just going further now.. I think I tried brushing the color to fill a face once, but then I'll assume I would group it with the line art right? Otherwise I'd move the face, and the brushing wouldn't move with it.
Also, FBF animation is kind of what I was gonna go for, but with some Flash artists, they've told me that beginners should try using tweens for some things, because it'll make things easier. The other thing with FBF is that, my hand is not the steadiest in the world. I would use onion skinning to help, but I'm pretty sure my animations would look like some of those experimental sketchy animations. XD I know I'm gonna have crap animations to begin with (and I'm okay with that, I know it all comes with practise), but I'll see how it goes.
Also, with regards to a tablet... is there a special trick to using them? Because to be honest, (and this is REALLY weird) I find using my tablet is IMMENSELY hard compared to the mouse. Which is weird because my cartoons on paper using a pencil look fine. But when trying to scan them in and trace with a tablet... it's all over the place. Maybe it's the sensitivity settings, but I've never had good luck with tablets.
Hey Everyone!
Okay, after reading all the rules, forums, and threads I can see, and checking out every tutorial on NG, I think I'm finally ready to start doing some good old fashioned hard work to come up with a good first animation.
But I did have some general questions for those who have been animating for a while:
A) Is there such a thing as too many Layers?
- Basically, I've cartooned my characters on papers for years, know how to draw them, and I can draw them pretty well with my mouse. (I haven't been able to get my tablet skills down yet) Now, I can draw them into Flash, but when it comes to animating PARTS of your character, is it good to put every little thing on a layer, or just the parts that are going to move? (Say like, his pupils, his eyebrows, and his mouth?)
B) Cartoon humans: Best way to color objects that aren't closed?
- Take a look at my character Chris: (http://cartoonsfromcanada.deviantart.co m/art/Worship-Band-Issues-144888003) When it comes to things like his joints, and his neck - how would I go about adding color to those? So far, I've only been able to fill shapes that are closed. In order to make Chris's head filled, I would have to close his neck and change his design. Maybe this is an advanced thing I shouldn't worry about now? I've seen some different animations on NG where it's obvious they animated the forearm seperate from the elbow, but there was no outline.
Any other advice on animation human characters would be much appreciated! Thanks guys!
I honestly have no clue. I mean, I personally believe in respect. What does beating someone prove? "Oh look, I'm a tough guy! I have no restraint or brains, but I can break you until you need a hospital bed and I get charged for assault!"
To me, violence is retarted in every sense of the word. Even with war! "I'm fighting for our country's freedom, so I'm gonna bomb the heck out of another human being, and slaughter their families!"
Men shouldn't hit women, or vice versa. It's our moronic instinct to get angry and resort to immediate revenge, but that's why we have so many shelters and help lines - because men (and sometimes women) don't know how to be mature and control their rages.
Oh, I just thought of one.
People who use the word "fuck" like it's going out of style. XD This generation seems to lack access to a thesaurus and proper English. XD
Guys who think being jerks to girls is the way to win them over, and think being a gentleman is old-fashioned and gay.
Ah coffee, been an addiction since my grandpa made "camp coffee" when I was 12.
I've worked at both Tim Hortons and Starbucks, so I've been all over the coffee spectrum. I've also learned why Starbucks is so expensive too. But I won't go into details with that unless others want me to. XD
I would have to say I like my strong coffees. Americano, the one with twice as much espresso as any healthy human body would actually need. And when the eggnog lattes roll around during the holidays, I drink that almost all the time.
When I can't get out of the house, I make my own gourmet coffees and home.
Long live the bean!
Wonchop. Or Joe Blanchette. (Legendary Frog for those not first name-savvy. XD)
Yikes. Energy drinks are getting crazy. Next thing you know, it'll be the new generations version of drugs/weed! D: Drinkin' down enough caffiene to make you vibrate standing still.
I think I'll stick to my decaf espresso latte, thanks.
How about...
