It's been 1 1/2 years since I was online the last time o:
So DISCLAIMER!!!
I know that you shouldn't create a new thread if you already have an art thread... BUT it's been more than a year now since I posted something... and I think I've improved during that time and the picture I posted at the very first is kinda embaressing in comparison to the ones I draw now... >.< (Link to my old thread if you want to see the difference (NSFW))
Though they're still not perfect... :/ I still have problems with drawing faces digitally without contures... Same with different kinds of textures... And the eyes still look too cartoonish even if I don't want them to look cartoonish... And I'm still lazy when it comes to backgrounds... >.<
But I wanted to share my latest painting with you: A pixy Christmas
I had to post the link because the image is too large and when I scale it down to 720px it gets too pixelated.. >.<
For the fur I used these tutorials:
Fur Tutorial by FaisuCakester
Fur Tutorial by Jocarra
And for the body proportions of the pixies I used these maniacs:
Left pixy
Right pixy
I appreciate any kind of critique :)
Hello Newgrounds!
Was away for a while...
Erm I got kinda lazy with colouring that anatomy study to practice shading... so I thought "Screw it!" because I finally wanted to finish my other pictures, so I thought I could just use them for shading practice...
Here's the most recent one I made, it's one of my teddy cartoons (so prepare for a lot of mushiness) and so far the only teddy comic with an actual light source but it was therefore good for practicing shading, since the forms weren't very complicated as well (just 2 round circles with tiny plush bodies and some clouds)

Well, my first thread isn't there anymore because it got too old, I guess o:
So I'm starting a new one c:
Well, in my first thread I was doing a human anatomy study and actually wanted to colour that study as well to practice correct shading and use of colour and such... Well, I got lazy with colouring it and then I thought "Screw it!" because I finally wanted to finish my other pictures, so I thought I could just use them for shading practice...

Hello The-Great-One! :3
For those who don't know me I would like to introduce myself. My name is The-Great-One and I am the chief editor of The Interviewer account here on Newgrounds. It is where I and a few others interview the famous artists and members of Newgrounds.
If you read the Interview with the Audio Portal: Defining Music, I made an open thread asking the different members of the Audio Portal and Audio Forum about what music is and why they create it.
I have also been pondering the definition, creation, and inspiration behind art. So I decided to choose a few artists to ask further questions for in an interview which can be read here. However like the past interview, I want a thread here to question more of the artists, so here we go.
Q: When did you first become introduced to art and in what form?
A: Err.. I guess the first form of art that I actually recognized as art were the cartoons I used to watch as a kindergarten child or that one book that my uncle gave me and my siblings when we were very small c: I leanrt reading with that book and I was totally proud when I could read before all the others at school xD (Ok that was off-topic). Oh and I guess the first songs I heard.. which were some old Bollywood songs... But I didn't recognize them as art yet... I think
Q: What first inspired you to create art?
A: Well, my sandbox friend could draw so nicely for her age and I wanted to learn that too c: So she taught me and since then I've been practicing!
Q: What is in your opinion, the definition of art?
A: Well.. Anything can be art.. Anything where you put some sort of effort into and give it a meaning.. I guess. People always think that it has to look "asthetic" or "good" or "pretty" but that's not the case. Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder and tastes differ :/
Q: When it comes to your art, where do you begin? How does the creative process start and when does the creation become finished?
A: I get a certain idea and then start with the lineart, then colour it and trace the lines with a pen or I just colour and trace the lineart digitally or when there's no lineart I start with a rouch sketch and then start painting it over as the way I want it to be...
And my creation is finished when.. Erm, well, when it looks like in my vision, obviously^^'
Q: Is there any other artist or person you look to as a guide or mentor?
A: Not really as a guide or mentor.. But I get influenced by a lot of people's art. For example, I do lately bubbles and sparkles on my latest cartoons. I got inspired by Apofiss and ValaSedai (both deviantART).
I would greatly appreciate it if you could answer my questions. Although I do have my own thoughts and opinions, after the interview they have changed, and I don't doubt that after reading your answers I will have learned much more.
Hmm.. I hope you still did! :D
Err.. the â'¬ shall mean Euros... I guess the Euro sign isn't visible on the forums...

Are you kidding me?!
I have myself not even a Wacom tablet, just some 20â'¬ thingy from the supermarket and it works fine...
If you however still want to spent money on a Wacom, I'd suggest Bamboo :/
There's no need for too expensive tablets, especially not when you're not drawing ot painting professionally for some bigger company or something. But usually professionals don't even have a Cintiq because it's just too damn expensive. I mean yea, you can actually view the things that you draw on the tablet, unlike with all the other tablets where you can only see it on your computer screen, but you will get used to that kind of view very fast, so I wouldn't recommand you a Cintiq at all.. Especially not when you're a hobbyist.. I'd actually not even recommand you an Intous :/
If you really want a tablet, then spend 80 bucks (or I dunno how much it costs there, here it's 80â'¬) on a bamboo or get some cheap no name tablet like me :/ They're not that bad..

that, and the chronic overuse of smiley punctuation.
I'm not sure if a painting of bunny or a necklace or a World of Warcraft character really fits to NG =/ (except for the last but I'm not completely proud of it >_>) But yea, I want to have a certain theme when someone browses my gallery :/ I just thought of drawing more cartoony stuff for NG :/
I kind of don't like the 4 pictures rule xD I mean I do have more paintings but they sort of don't really fit into NG's concept xD And I wouldn't like to upload every piece that I uploaded on dA, here as well :/ NG seems more like a cartoony and funny site to me, so I only upload cartoony stuff here which isn't that much yet D:

Wow... O.o I am sure that drawing or painting your feelings will get you better! C:

I'm starting to question the meaning of art that is objectionable .
I never understood those people who say that what they're doing is "anti-art".. Since that makes it interpretable... which makes it art...
And yes, even wikipedia says in the last sentence of its article that anti-art IS art :/
Can someone please look over my anatomy study instead of discussing what art is and what not? -_-
For your information, generally you can just tell if it's art when it's somewhat interpretable :/
For example:
A can of soup in a supermarket is no art since it's just a can of soup in a supermarket which you might want to buy or not..
However, a can of soup can be art or well.. IS art when you say it's a symbol of today's consumer society and that we, for example, don't really care anymore if we cook a real meal or well, just eat can food :/
You can do that with my picture, as well. You can, for example, interpret that today's commercials want to show us that the perfect bodytype is a very slim with huge boobs or that today's marketing strategies or stragtegies making things more popular are just plainly based on sex. :/
There you have your definition of art >_>
Now back to my studies please! D:
Okay, here's an anatomy study, I didn't traced it yet, so I can still erase lines and such.
I used this maniac turned a little to the side.
At 4/30/12 10:28 PM, Luwano wrote: I think Ephyse gave a good example for that. By making the lights in the background "shine" more you relatively lower te contrast to the wall (which is now affected by highlights and thus a little brighter) so the torch doesn't stand out that much anymore.
Yea, true o: c:
I am not sure. So you are drawing lineart with pencil first, ink it and then scan it? If so, then I can't help you except for the tip: Only ink when your lines are 100% done. :P
When you are working digitally, then save working copies and make use of layers. That way you can easily go back when you realize that you made something wrong.
I draw the lineart first with pencil and then I scan it to redraw the lineart with the Paths tool in Photoshop, so I mostly just concentrate on getting the lines exactly traced with that Paths tool o: So yea maybe I should just scan it when I'm 100% sure :/
The first one should allow you to choose models, poses and their perspectives. The second link was incomplete, sorry. Here is the (hopefully) correct one: http://www.pixelovely.com/gesture/figuredrawing.php
Ah I found the different panels now c: Yes, it's the correct one, thank you :)

Hello ChocolateKitteh :)
Hello Luwano :3
Welcome on board!
Thank you^^
You're the first person who is giving me a detailed critique on my painting which I really apperiacte :3
First of all, yes I know that all the critique wasn't meant personal or anything but yea, let me be honest, I sometimes do get too emotional on some things..
The close your eyes and open it is a good tecnique, thanks for the tipp c: However, I still wouldn't know how to keep less focus on the torch other than blurring the background a little more but that would cause a lot more loss of detail :S So.. I don't know what to do there...
As for the length of the arms.. Now that you mention it.. It somehow makes me think of a monkey D: And for the symmetry.. Yea I noticed that while drawing that the arms and legs just don't have the same lenght.. But that was when I was already done with the lineart.. So I had to redraw everything since I'm not really good at editing pictures on the computer.. Got any tutorials for that as well? :/
And yup there had to be a fold >_<
And thanks a lot, no it didn't discourage me :)
I'll practice my anatomy :3 Thanks for the links c: But are there also a few female bodies in the first link? o: I tend to draw more women than men, you know :) And for the second link... Isn't that a website that shows you how to improve your skills in webdesigning...? o:
Hmm I think I just used the word "artistic" wrong... This picture isn't meant to be one those Da Vinci or Botticelli paintings where the nudity is truly only for artistic purpose.. If you know what I mean, should be obvious though, my painting is not a fine art painting >_>
I asked if it wasn't artistic enough because I wondered if the quality of the line art and painting is still too low for newgrounds.. I mean come on, TheShadling's art isn't meant to be for truly an artistic purpose, as well.. I'm saying this because you guys make it seem like that his cartoons are being "artistic nudity" the way Botticelli's paintings are "artistic nude"...
But yea TheShadling's details ARE awesome..
And yea I know that sexappeal isn't just cloths off >_>
but my forearms don't lose half their mass between elbow and wrist- more like a third at the thinnest point, which is not how yours are viewed.
Okay okay, I get what you mean now xD Yea.. didn't put too much attention to that D:
But seriously though people... How on earth can you even compare this to TheShadling? You're comparing an amatuer to well, a professional :c
At 4/30/12 01:35 AM, lovingthedark wrote: Anatomy-wise the figures are lacking a lot. The breasts on both figures are too high and bulbous, they have no wrist bones (like the bump formed by the knob of the ulna), and they're frighteningly skinny. Ephyse is right about the color palette. Also, is that supposed to be a cut on the blonde between her legs or is that supposed to be genitalia? If it's the latter, it's too high up.
Both the cat and the pain kinks seem silly to me, but hardly disturbing.
Oh my.. That bad? :/
And what have all of you guys with that "skinny"?! They're not very skinny to me, I am even way skinnier than them >_> Most girls from my school have their body type :/ (Well, except for those large boobs ofc)
But then again, most people here are from the USA! (no offense.. but you guys do eat a lot of fast food D:)

hihi you can also put "bat textures" on the curtains X)
Well, the quality got a bit a low now.. xD But the reddish thing doesn't look that bad, though... Reminds me kind of of Hell with all that red and black C: Maybe I should do set a certain colour as the "main" colour for next pictures.. o:

Hm.. Okay..
And I coloured the curtains green and blue to have a contrast to the red and yellow :/

Blackmist has a point. There's a fine point between the...eh, "artistic" nudity and the "I want to create some boners" nudity. And yours is hardly the former.
Mkay.. And can you give a further explanation as well? :/ Proportions wrong, background too lame, shading sucks?
