I'm speechless.. as in, I forgot to write one. Thanks so much NG for this huge honour. I couldn't keep doing these movies without the continued support from Newgrounds and the Brackenwood fans.

I've said it before and I'll always say it: if it weren't for Newgrounds, my site would still be a relative unknown on a shared server and I'd probably still be working in a studio as 'talent-on-tap' churning out terrible sequels, like so many extremely talented people who deserve better.

Now I'm working from home, and while the money isn't as good as a full-time job, I make enough in AdSense to pay for a dedicated host, which makes my site almost self-sufficient. This gives me time to work on my personal projects including a Brackenwood feature film which I'm no co-writing with a close ex-Disney colleague in Los Angeles. Quite simply, none of this would be happening if it weren't for Newgrounds. I've got NG to thank for it all.

I'm completely gob-smacked.
Thank you,
A. Phillips

thanks! Yeah it's Sarus written all over him. I was going for a nightmarish, creepy feel but I think I went a little overboard with the red smudges on his head. Pretty happy with him otherwise :D

I'll give it a shot. I don't have much in the way of paints but I can think of other things to do to it. As long as the deadline's not too tight, count me in.

Me too. But you know how he makes water glisten on the surface? that's one tween, no fbf. It's called a scribble cel, look it up on flashwiki.net

Hey SpaceAndTime, thanks for the credit dude.. but really, your flashwiki article is pretty much a direct copy of my blog article. including the images and examples you used.

It's awesome that you're helping beginners by teaching cool new techniques that you've found, and even putting your own spin on the scribble cel is great.. but you shouldn't say in the flashwiki article that you devised this technique. Giving due credit for your sources will make you a more reputable article/tutorial writer ;)

Nice work with the Mario-style waterfall btw!

just as you walk into your boss's office, smile in face, tell him to shove his job up his arse, then slam your resignation letter onto his desk.

uhm.. think about that one for a sec before you say it's not much to worry about.. sure 90cm doesn't sound like much, but from the coast, you can travel inland for miles before you're 90cm above sea level. If the sea level rises, everyone living on coastlines around the world could be wading waist-deep to work. And with tidal activity, coastal cities and towns will be decimated and eventually destroyed.

It would probably be gradual enough that people would survive by moving inland, but imagine a mass exodus of half the world's population to outlying farms. There'd be mass starvation, disease and most of the population would die of anger (I know I would).

For the ice thing, here's a simple experiment. Float a single large ice cube in a narrow glass. Notice how some of the ice cube is above water? Now push the ice all the way under the water, and you'll see the water levels rise. All of the ice caps in the world, including those at the poles are ice above water. We're screwed :D

Yeah there are a few that I'm not too fond of too.. at the time 'Deadly Stink' seemed like a good idea, but I think it pales in comparison to those around it. Also I gotta agree that 'Breakfast' wasn't all it could be.. I may even go in and rework/add to that one to improve it. Another I think could have been better was 'Snart'.. but I forgive meself for that cos it was done on the same day I made 3:33am :P

However did you guys notice the little music box underneath the animations? I know its Sarus but I havent been able to learn it so do any of you know what its saying?
e-v

What Alex said.. t's the music that used to be in the Flash version of my site and I kept getting requests for it, so I decided to add it to the new HTML version of Bitey Castle. Btw, it's Latin :D

Thanks everyone for your comments in this thread, and thanks Alexsmolik, BatDan and anyone else who posted daily updates. The last 30 days have been the best fun I've ever had with Flash, but now that it's over I think I'll eat something and get some sunshine. I know I'll be sleeping late tomorrow, for sure :D

This was Animotd: Series 1 (i.e. the first 30). Someday - when I get some colour back in my skin - I'll do another series.

Thanks again everyone for the support (and thanks again Alex) :D

urk.. well I'm not *trying* to polish it to death.. just trying to do better things in each one (in littleFoot's case I was working on depth), otherwise it'd just be "I liked Prowlies better" or "you haven't done anything new".

I'd be more interested to see him do something really out of nature .. not necessarily change his style per say but lets say make something where its not always a balmy 70 degree day in a beautiful spring day.. maybe make something where its dirty fucked up and ugly..

I agree.. that's part of the reason I do movies other than Brackenwood that are a bit more fucked up. That's not to say Brackenwood doesn't have a dark side.. it has a pretty nasty background story that isn't for kids. But the last thing I wanna do is put a token lava sequence, or boiling mud sequence, or flat-gray-rainy-bad-guy-house sequence.. cos every damn 2D Disney movie has a location like that in it somewhere. I may as well introduce a sidekick, or some showtunes.

anyway, you've given me a lot to think about.. in fact lots of people have since I released this :)

Adam.

Thanks! glad you like it :)

Mr Jiggmin, the background was complete, but it was just the bigfoot and the underwater effect that wasn't quite polished.

Thanks for the thread alexsmolik, and thanks for the support everyone else (not to mention your patience over the past year). I'm moving through the scenes at a really fast pace now, so hopefully everything will come together in time for the deadline.

Even though this probably won't be much larger in file-size than Prowlies, I have someone helping me out with a special preloader that loads the movie in chunks. This means that there'll be a short initial download of like.. 1MB or so and the rest loads as you watch. The only problem (or so I hear) is that there could be some performance issues, so we'll see.

Thanks again! Here's a couple of hi-res screenies:
Bitey and littleFoot (this one won't really work as wallpaper cos it's the wrong dimensions)
Background (this one kinda does though)

Topic: Biety of Brackenwood,the best?

Posted: 08/06/04 09:32 AM

Forum: General

Well to tell the truth, no sooner had I finished Bitey of Brackenwood than I started hating it. Everything about it began to annoy me, from the artwork, the sounds, certain bits of animation, to the voices and some sound effects. I guess that's true for many artists who look back on their early work and pick it to pieces.. nowadays I don't hate it, but there are things about Bitey of Brackenwood that I would change if I could, just as there are with hitchHiker 1, Bingbong of Brackenwood and Auld Sage.

Thanks to many of the NG reviews as well as my own critical perspective, I'm concentrating hard on the plot for this new Brackenwood movie... I will probably end up wishing I could change parts of it too, but as I go through I'm trying to look at it with a harsh critic's eye.

In short, I don't blame Randomike for not liking the first one because I am its worst critic and can see why it falls short... but give the new one a chance huh? I'm busting my guts to make it as good as I can :D

Heyas, I just wanted to let some bodies know that I'm running a scary story competition on my site . Prizes are sponsored by Friends of ED, so if you want to take your choice of some books, drop by, read the guidelines for the competition and get writing :)
Three stories that scare me most will win... simple as that.

aw yeah, and I have a new forum too, so come over and say hey. I'm setting a monthly animation task for forum visitors to work on, then someday maybe a bunch of us can collaborate and submit something to NG portal!
