i would recommend buying the metal gear solid essential collection, which includes 1,2, and 3. it only costs like 30 bucks. then, play them in sequential order and finally buy and play mgs4. i played 4 first, and then skipped all over the place, and it's equally as satisfying because it's like puzzle pieces falling into place, but it makes more sense if you play them sequentially.
