I'm in the lobby right now! Someone come on in!
That Israeli attack on the Humanitarian flotilla was... heavy handed, and unjustified.
The flotilla wasn't carrying weapons. They were carrying things that most people have access to in the free market: clothes, food, things to build economies with.
The palestinians don't exactly have access to these due to the blockade.
The israeli government is responsible for the blockade, and thus depriving the palestinians
of economy, culture, and necessities.
That is "genocide" by attrition. Israel is killing off palestinian culture.
While Hamas does attack israel, and kill people...
I don't see Hamas depriving israelis of their culture, their economy, and their necessities. Especially not with a government sanctioned blockade.
While nations must defend themselves, this blockade is immoral because it punishes an entire group of people for the actions that only a few do. If anything, this terrorism is a symptom of a much bigger problem. There is a lot of discontent in the Mid-East.
I pin point the problem to creation of Israel, as a country. These problems in the middle east would not be so exacerbated by creating a country that favors a group of people who have long lost their claim to the land. It doesn't matter if the desert peoples were nothing but nomads and herders: they were there. That was their way of living.
Thus israel's existence is a moral problem for the world. As long as this country exists, and continues to receive support from the United States, the world will continue to have significant problems in that area.
I'm inside the Pico Roulette lobby. I wanna play some peeps.
If it shows undefined, just try again. IT works on the second or third try.
Our form of goverment does work, provided that the people (governed) monitor closely the ones in power.
The reason why the government is currently able to do exactly as it pleases is because no one takes the time to scrutinize closely the actions of said goverment.
It is indeed the responsibility of the masses to make sure their government does not become a giant monster. The biggest failure lies on "We, the People".
We don't need to chuck the goverment, we just need to use an overwhelming force to coerce the ones in it to do what needs to be done.
I would simply do a flat tax. Any income that is earned has a 10% tax on it. That includes individuals, business, and all religious orgs.
I read the book. It was good. The movie was okay, if I refrain from comparing it to the book.
I dunno if I would call it a political novel as much as a commentary on politics.
Perhaps, if I remember correctly, that the point was so:
A citizen is someone who cares deeply enough, is man enough, and resolute enough, to put their life on the line for their beliefs.
It could just be that the author was blamming on worthless human trash that have sprouted up to prominence since the sixties... ah, lovely communist hugging hippies and lovely bitter conservatives... Two sides of the same corrupted coin...
I don't particularly care what other priests say about things, as long they aren't being silly about it.
Being a woman and being ordained myself, I'd say that it's pretty much up to the woman. I would much rather people kill fetus's than bring them up badly and make yet another mediocre and stupid human.
After all, in America, a fetus is an 18 year commitment.
I do not doubt for a second that if North Korea goes to war, it will lose. It's people will flock to South Korea by the thousands.
Even if there was devastation in the south, the South can rebuild far faster than the north.
I hope there is a war, and that we ice those crazy north korean leaders. They've contributed nothing useful to the world except how NOT to run a country.
When men are not in alignment of Tao, there is kindness, justice and morality.
Kindness, being the worthless but sweet man
Justice, being concerned with treating everyone the same
Morality, enforcing preceptions of self onto others. When that doesn't work, reverting to tyranny.
So perhaps there is human rights, but they are not the end but the symptom of wise men and leaders in alignment of Tao.
To seek control is also against the Tao. Do not most human rights abuse lead from a desire to control, on all levels from individual to Inter-continental?
Hmm...
