Isn't this just called tweening? It's an entirely valid method of animating, but actually doing frame-by-frame allows you much more flexibility and captures the feel of natural movement a lot better in most cases.

I never once stated that I was the best at anything. I've stated several times already that I literally made this in MINUTES, and I wasn't exactly expecting it to be all that great. Please get over the fact that it's a stick figure, as I'm sure everyone has figured this out by now and it's really not as monumental an issue as you make it out to be.

Furthermore, I'm not just sitting around waiting for people like you to respond. I've been working on several real projects for hours on end these past few weeks, and the several days previous to this one are no exception. Maybe if you had actually provided some constructive feedback in the first place and not been an ass about it, we wouldn't be clogging up the forum with confrontations like this.

I KNOW it isn't all that good. It took me a few minutes to make, and you seriously need to get over yourself for emphasizing how "terrible" you think it is. I couldn't care less. I've been taking animation classes at my school for 4 years now, and I got accepted to Ringling to study there. I understand the basics. The problem isn't my lack of knowledge, but rather the lack of effort that went into this.

With that said, thank you for actually fleshing out your thoughts here for once.

This probably would've been easier to spot had it been a full character, but I'm still working on that.

Thank you for actually providing something constructive. I'll keep that in mind.

Double post...my bad. One more thing! It would be great to see some sort of checkpoint system in some of the larger levels, as it is somewhat frustrating to repeat the entire process for making one mistake near the end.

You should definitely add an indicator of what level the player is on. I was going to provide specific feedback, but then I forgot what stage I had just completed and...yeah. Also, consider adding a short key after the title screen to explain what each environmental feature does and how the player interacts with it, i.e. a picture of a light switch with text indicating their function.

Other than that, the level designs are good, but they look a little bland, especially with no background. Also, I think it would be neat to have the theme of the stages change as you progress, perhaps with some changes in the music as well. The movement was fluid and it controls well, and the characters animations are decent. Overall, this is pretty good for an early beta.

How is it automatically bad simply because it's a stick figure? Judge it by the quality of the animation please, because you're sounding kind of stuck up.
They were two separate statements, as an animation it's really fucking terrible get better.

Do this by not using stick figures and learning how to draw.

also how am I stuck up?

What is your problem exactly...? In what way is the animation terrible? You could at least TRY to provide feedback that's worthwhile, rather than blatantly insulting me without provocation. THAT is why you're stuck up. It was a quick animation that literally took me a few minutes to make, and if I had wanted to animate a character that wasn't a stick figure, I would have.

If your complaint is that it isn't smooth enough, then fine, as I didn't spend a whole lot of time on it. I'm sorry to have taken valuable time out of your day to ask your opinion on a little animation for fun.

Yeah, I thought about making him slide (and he does a little bit, since I added that in) but didn't really bother to.

Whipped this up in a fairly short amount of time. It's all drawn frame by frame, so tell me what you guys think of this.

Response to: A question about Egoraptor's style Posted April 11th, 2013 in Animation

I'd describe it as focusing very heavily on hugely over-exaggerated character movement and facial expressions. In fact, the faces are what define his style, at least in my opinion.

I've never experienced this, so no.
