Ugh ... on a small picture, that just doesn't look so good. Here's a slightly altered version.

Dude! That's awesome! Now we just need the BG to be orange and it's complete! :D

Teehee.

I believe I mentioned the lack of a giant cannon.

That's right boys and girls, the LT-35. Looks strikingly similar to the NewGrounds tank, does it not?

I mean except for the turret, which should have a big cannon.

Response to: AS2 Large sidescrolling platformer Posted January 14th, 2011 in Game Development

I probably should've mentioned that it's one big MC, one piece of artwork... But yeah, some of this stuff makes sense.

Response to: vCam question Posted January 14th, 2011 in Game Development

Well, I haven't used the vCam for AS3, but the AS2 one works just fine. Not much lag either. Anyways, all you have to do is get the code on the vCam movie clip. Make your HUD the same size as the vCam and make the origin the center, and code the vCam MC so every frame, the HUD x and y equal the camera x and y.

So, I have a some large levels in a game I'm working on, five tons of art processing on the ground artwork. Plus some snow and a parallax BG, but I'm focussing on the ground work right now. How can I optimize the performance so it doesn't lag so much. Right now I'm considering splitting the level art into sections and render each one invisible until it's almost in view, and then invisible again when it's completely out of view. That seems almost too easy though. Thoughts?

The crappy stuff that somehow passes judgement in the Flash portal. And the crappy-sounding FL Studio music made by complete newbies that winds up in the Audio portal.

Why exactly?

Maybe it's one of those cases where it costs more to repair than to get it fixed.

Make a song or something.

If you really do throw it off the roof though, please take a video and link us to it afterwards.
Response to: Yet another AS2 hitTest question... Posted January 4th, 2011 in Game Development

Awesome. Thanks dude.

This is a real quick question I had. When I do the hitTest between a character MC and a terrain MC, and let's say I want to use a basic terrain for the collisions, and use a different object for the ground art, how can I work this out? Is it possible to arrange the basic terrain to the back and still get a correct hitTest return? Or should I lower the alpha of the basic terrain and leave it in front of everything else?

One game I'm looking forward to. Homefront.

To anyone that doesn't get GameInformer, it's basically about NK invading the US, and everyone (Army and civilians and such) are fighting them off.

This. Although it eats up batteries fast, so I'd go with a shotgun with infinite ammo.

You were right about that, logic.

Anyways, my goal last year was to stop slacking so much. I just achieved that in the last few weeks.
This year, my goals are to pass high school, kick ass in the 800m in track & field, and finish a Flash I'm working on.

Last one probably won't happen.

This has only happened once to me. (Made a topic titled "Use your level icon to..." and wrote "Nah, just kidding. Let's get pizza!") Probably happened due to the title, and then the first post having nothing to do with it. Didn't get banned though. Guess I got lucky.

So yeah, I found this place because of the audio portal, unlike... everyone else.

More like almost everyone else. I found it looking for music from a game 3 years ago. Came and joined 5 months ago.
