Don't do it. Chinese is extremely hard. I took it for 3 years. If you couldn't pass Spanish, there is no way you can pass Chinese.
Chinese has 2 different things you must memorize, where Spanish only has one. In Chinese, you must memorize the character's pronunciation as well as its meaning. In Spanish, you only have to know the words meaning. Also, you can usually figure out what a Spanish word means because it is somehow based or spelled similarly to the English word, just adding a suffix of "o" or something. Also, Chinese grammar is harder to learn than Spanish.
If you are not completely sure that you want to take Chinese, I suggest you don't take it. It will completely own you. I took it, and cheated my way through the 3 years, on account of I had a FOB teacher who was oblivious to what we were doing.
I passed all 3 years with C-. I only know enough words right now to pass the first semester of Chinese 1.
