I figured it was suitable for the OP. I feel that it's a quality mid range instrument with the sound and feel the OP requested, all while not being OVERLY pricey. You know, something his parents would consider for what sounds like his first electric guitar. Sometimes I will pick up an Epiphone and prefer it over the Gibson, sometimes I will prefer the Gibson. They all make good guitars.

Honestly, this is pretty cheap, 500 for the guitar, 150 for the pickups.

I think this Epiphone will suit you well for the time being. Why should you listen to me? I play, repair, and sell this shit for a living. The hardware is durable, and will produce the sounds you want, the guitar is built well, body to finish.
