I thought you still had a shield in the game. Your shield takes damage first, and then your health lowers once the shield is gone.
Well, like I said, I don't have it. However, one of my friends has it and said it's more realistic than Halo 3. So I honestly don't know about the health and shield aspect, but you aren't invincible anymore from what I know.
Master Chief wasn't invincible anyway, if you get into the plot hard enough, you'll find out that his Spartan-II Armour is basically undefeatable, it enhances his strength(Which is make you can melee a brute and kill it easily.), Agility and speed(Which is why you can jump so high and run so fast.) and provides excellent protection with the Laser-Shield thing that forms when it's hit and the fact that it's made from some metal(I haven't read the book in a long time, give me a break.) that's hard as fuck. Plus let's not forget the fact that without his armour, he'd still be almost invinceable due to the Artificial Enhancements also known as the Spartan-II which enhances every physical ability in him.
ITT: He's a supersoldier and it's more realistic than you think because the game takes place 500 years from now which by then I'd reckon we would have that kind of Technology.
Let's also not forget that in ODST you play as just a Soldier who can die easily, because he recieved normal training instead of the fuck-hard training Master Chief received that even killed some of the kids doing it whilst also him being naturally extremely strong and agile(Along with the other Spartans.) instead of just a normal guy that joined the Army, he was forced from a young age to join the Army because of his abnormal Strength and his abnormal Agility and received the most hardest training that was life-threatening all his life until he was shipped out and not only all that, but the Spartan-II Armour, enhanced these things even more and so did the Biological and Mechanical Enhancements the guy in ODST wears ordinary armour and has no Enhancements whatsoever besides Standard training.
So basically Halo is more realistic than you'd think, if you got into the Halo Universe a bit more.
