Yeah I had a picture of a cosmonaut he wanted, and I just used it to make sure I got the pose right.

Also, I love how the overall "splat" -effect!
I gotta learn how to do that some day ...

It's just a series of brushes I downloaded, it's pretty easy.

There's a cosmonaut in it because the kid who commissioned the design is really influenced by space, and he's anatomically correct because that was worked from another image.

It doesn't suck, but it is by no standards any good. And as a general rule we tend to keep MSpaint out of the portal. There are only maybe 1 or 2 artist that draw with MSpaint (not counting pixel art, paint actually works for that). Usually we let them stay in the portal because they're art is hilarious, not because of artistic challenge.

In the future don't let yourself get scouted by someone who uses MSpaint for anything other than pixel art, chances are they're going to get booted.

The sad thing about that is that I would buy that game, and more than likely drop $100-$150 for a collectors edition with that would come with the coolest figurine in CE history.

I usually just start scribbling and I go from there, most of my ideas I get while just doodling trying to come up with something to draw.

That or I think of something that I think is funny during the day at some point and decide to paint/draw it later.

..:: Art Request Thread 2.0 ::.. Posted January 14th, 2010 in Art

Since the last thread went a bit downhill we're giving it an overhaul. All art requests/commissions go in this thread.

To request art, make a blog post on your profile that goes into specific detail about what you want. Then post in this thread, giving a short summary of what you want and link to your blog post for further details.

THIS IS NOT A DISCUSSION THREAD, ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS ABOUT A REQUEST CAN BE HANDLED IN THE BLOG POST.

Format for thread post:
- Type of request (flash game/movie, art commisions, logo design, etc)
- Short summary of what you want (try and keep it under 3-4 sentences)
- How much you are paying (required)
- Link to blog post

Format for the blog post:
- Specific details about what you want.
- The time frame that you're working with
- Specifics on how you will pay (paypal, check, etc)
- Any sketches/images that you have to give a basic idea of what you want (highly recommended)
- Whether or not ad revenue is negotiable if it applies
- Please update your blog post to show if your job has been completed or not, or if you've found an artist.

Requirements:
- Requests MUST have monetary incentive, if you're not paying cash then no one is going to do it anyway.
- Must follow template, anything that doesn't follow the template will just be deleted.
- If you're requesting help about a game/movie then it is highly recommended you have done movies/games in the past to show you are reliable and will actually finish your project. This will also give the artist an idea what to expect from your final product.

No Nos:
- Ad Revenue is not a suitable form of payment. There are too many factors involved that could lead to the artist not getting paid, or getting under payed for their work. It can be negotiated for the artist to get a cut of the revenue, but can't be main form of payment.
- Saying that the artist will be credited somewhere is also not a suitable form of payment. Giving the artist credit for their work is expected, not a reward.

ALL POSTS MUST FOLLOW THESE GUIDELINES, OR THEY WILL BE DELETED. NO EXCEPTIONS.

It's rarely ever a matter of us not liking the art as the reason we unscout someone. If that was the case I would be unscouting all the mediocre anime and sonic fanart from the portal as we speak. We unscout people if the quality of their work does not hold up to the quality of the work that's in the portal.

When you get a message informing you that someone's offered to scout you, you have the option to reject their scout. This is supposed to give you the chance to look at the art of the person who's offering to scout you, and see if they have the potential to get kicked out the portal themselves. It's no longer our fault if you get descouted because the person who scouted you had bad art, it's yours.

"I tried to clean it but Sludge always comes by and sticks his greasy tentacles through my window and messes everything up!"
"Billy! How dare you blame your problems on our exalted one! He understands our need of cleanliness and order! Unlike a certain young man who's about to lose his TV privileges!"
"Aw Mom!"

They generally range from 50 USD to 100 USD depending on the size and time I spent on the piece. Big ass things like the door are priced higher, tiny things that I spend a half hour on are cheaper.

Yeah, once of the problems I've noticed about the Art Portal is that there aren't really any review mods that take care of abusive reviews in it. I don't know how that all works, so I don't even know if flagging the review in the art portal pops up on whatever list they look at.

Can't hurt to try though :P

Well on the subject of the Request Thread, we've decided that it needs revamped. We're working on a template for a new Request thread that will be strictly enforced, and wanted to run it by you guys to see if you had any suggestions.

We'll be reinforcing Kraigs original format for requests. If you want to make a request, then make a very detailed blog post about it, and then make a post in the thread that gives a short summary of what you want and link to your blog post. Then any further questions or inquiries about the request will be handled on the users blog.

Format for the blog post will be:
- Specific details about what you want.
- The time frame that you're working with
- Specifics on how you will pay (paypal, check, etc)
- Any sketches/images that you have to give a basic idea of what you want (highly recommended)
- Whether or not ad revenue is negotiable if it applies

- No discussion in the thread, all discussion stays in the blog post for the specific request.

I think that's everything. If anybody has anything that they think should be revised/added then speak up.

That's still wishy washy. It's your request, you should say how much you're willing to pay for it. I know I personally hate it when someone offers up a commission and just says "pay negotiable".

And just to reiterate my point that the Request thread will work if people offer money. I just went through the thread and there are only 2 requests in the whole thread that offer pay, and specifically say how much they will be paying. Personally, those are the only 2 requests I would seriously consider taking.

There are a small handful that do offer a reward, but it's usually a split of whatever ad revenue their project could possibly accumulate. Nobody will take this as payment. That's payment that depends on others to click their ads, depends on the requester to actually finish his project, and on top of that ad revenue is beans. You'll get paid next to nothing over the course of a month or so.

none of the requests get done because no one ever offers a suitable payment

Response to: Mag Public Beta Posted January 11th, 2010 in Video Games

I haven't played the open beta yet, only the closed, but I enjoyed it every time I played it. I agree with everyone that it's decidedly average, but in all honesty I can't say I've played a FPS that had above average online. To me it's just more of the same, nothing improved from the basic formula, but about the same as everything else (excluding graphics, which I don't really care too much about)

The big draw for me is the only other game that lots of people currently play online (on the ps3) is MW2. The thing I really dislike about MW2 is that every single round that I play half the kids on the other team all camp, and there are always 1 or 2 guys that just completely dominate the whole round. I never really ran across these problems in MAG.

It doesn't matter how good you are at the game or FPS's in general, if you turn the corner and there are more than 2 guys there, chances are your dead. There aren't really any "that guys" in this game, the absurd amount of players kind of makes it impossible. Even if there are people that are just insanely good at the game, there's a pretty good chance that you might not even ever run into him. The same thing applies to campers, in my experience with the game staying in one place for too long is a pretty good way to get yourself killed. You may have a good spot, but it's hard to defend your little spot of ground from the 10-20 people that probably know where you are.

The game might not be the prettiest girl on the block, but I feel like I enjoy it more than other FPS's because it does do a good job of cutting down on the things I hate about every other FPS that I play.
