It looked cool, but I let it sit up for like 10 minutes and no game. I hope to hell the final game isn't anything like that. Maybe it'll be better tomorrow and I'll get to try it out.

I downloaded the demo for AVP, but I can't get into a game. Anyone else having this problem? So did they just release the demo without putting up the servers or what?

Aaaaand update 2, with an added shadow and background abject like you requested.

I also just noticed that the first one isn't the final, I have an updated version that fixed the bottom of the shadow to match the logo. Still you get the gist of it, I can send you the finished .jpg if you really care.

PREPARE FOR DOUBLE POST

Alright, have two updates on my design. First one here I added 3d to the white outline, and a shadow. Giving it more of the feel of a physical object and giving it weight, without having to just put a background object on it.

Trite art is art that's just like "pretty art", there isn't a lot of substance behind it other than the fact that it's pretty. I don't think his art falls into there, it just kind of looks a bit like common trite landscapes. I don't know very much about different watercolor techniques, but there is a certain style to it that adds to the paintings.

You mentioned that you didn't think many people know how to paint in the way he does, or use the same techniques. Can you elaborate a little more on that, just curious if you know the process behind some of his paintings.

And we're beating Raven and Valor in 2 out of the 3 game modes. In Sabotage and Domination Raven gets spanked every time. I will admit though, I've found it hard to win against Raven in Acquisition for some reason.

Ouch, was just joking. No need to get angry, sorry.

Getting thread back on track, like I said I think the watercolors are nice and really well done. They seem to tread dangerously into the whole "trite art" danger zone though. Although I've always found it difficult to draw a distinction between what does and doesn't count as trite art as far as landscape paintings are concerned.

Hey n00b, might want to take a gander at the Art Forum Rules! All new threads in the Art Forum need to have an original work of art (that you made!) in the first post!

the watercolors are nice, if a bit trite in nature

Just throwing this out there, but to help alleviate some of my boredom I'm just sending out an open invitation to anyone who want's to collaborate on some kind of art project or drawing. So hit me up if you're also bored!

and yes, I've seen the Art Collab thread. I'm looking for things that are more than just coloring in each others line art, that's boring :P

Pleats made out of bristol board. Each side is half an inch wide, and the whole thing is 4 in. by 8.5 in.

It's not that hard to make, but the fact that it has to be flawless makes it difficult. I'm talking that the thin lines inside the scores have to the same width and perfectly straight with no wavering or fraying. One of them is a millimeter thinner than the others, which doesn't make me happy. I don't feel like doing it again though, lol.

You don't need a credit card or debit card to buy things online, all you need is a bank account (which you said you have). Just make a paypal account, send some money from your bank account to your paypal (done through paypal, don't even need to leave your chair to do all this), then buy Demon's Souls from one of the many sites that accept paypal.

There's no need to worry about putting your information on the internet and it getting stolen or something. Paypal is just about the safest way you can buy things online.

completely doable

I didn't say you didn't, but I didn't mean to single you out. I was just using you as an example because you pointed out pretty much all the cons that people were pointing out about the game.

I don't really think that there needs to be any short single player campaign, because I think I would just feel the same as I did with MW2. Where the single player can be burned through in one day then all I play is online. In my opinion if you compare MAG to MW2, I'd say MAG just skipped the lackluster single player and focused on what people will actually play. I do wish that there were a few more features in the online that other games have (killcam, spectating while waiting to respawn), but it is a pretty solid online FPS that can reach a level of intensity and chaos that other console FPS don't get.

At 1/26/10 04:05 PM, scetch00 wrote: And this is the start of where MAG will crash and burn..

You really do have something against this game. One of the things I've noticed from the full game compared to the beta is that the controls feel a little tightened up, which really makes all the difference.

To address some of the issues Scetch kindly pointed out to me while I was playing the game:

It's pretty shoddy compared to MW2

Don't really agree with this. The game is put together nicely and it works, it does everything I expected of it (big ass multiplayer matches) pretty well. Personally I enjoy this a lot more than MW2, I probably won't be playing MW2 for online anymore. The difference between the games I notice is when I'm having an off day at MW2 it's not fun, and I just get frustrated and don't feel like playing. If you have a really shitty round of MAG you still can get yourself a good handful of experience and have a lot of fun.

graphics are bawls

Graphics are not bad. They aren't photo realistic or anything incredible, but they are not bad by any standards. The maps are well made and interesting, and just because it doesn't beat out every other game for graphics doesn't make it any less fun.

laaaag

Out of maybe the 20 or so rounds I've played so far I think only 1 match was laggy. Which is about on par with every other online game I've ever played, and even though it lagged, it was still enjoyable and playable. So no big deal there.

Just one more thing. Most of the rounds I played (that actually require teamwork) the squad I was in did a pretty good job of actually working as a squad. It is a bit of a clusterfuck, but when an order is issued usually most or all of my squad start pushing forward to do whatever is asked of us. The only downside is that in the bigger matches there's usually 1 or 2 squads that just run around trying to kill as many people as possible. I had one round where my squad was the only squad for was able to capture and hold their objective, for any length of time. Those rounds don't happen too often, but it does suck when they do.

I'm not saying this game is amazing or the best game on the ps3 by any means, but it is a lot of fun and thoroughly enjoyable. Although I think it's success in the long term will bank on any further content/expansions that they come out with to keep the players wanting to play.
