Hmmm, that other guy's right, you're narowing it down quite a bit by taking away non-vocals, considering besides all the rappers and occasional indie pop singers (*cough* Hania), there really isn't much of a singer pool here.
So either you loosen out your contraints (instrumental peices aren't just electro, there's alot of rock/blues/jazz/classical/other stuff out there that's great) or you contact one personally...
Personally, I do mostly jazz, but non of my stuff is live for now, thought my fans at my school are gonna help me out remediate to this situation pretty soon. Non of it is vocal, sorry.

Uh, that's abummer, really should have checked that list a bit more than once a month...
Oh well, the whole thing wasn't for me anyways, I'll still hang around though, so no fear with that!
I didn't post anything last week, so at least you got one less review to do! Of course, I couldn't let that happen two weeks in a row, now could I?
I did a collab with Steph this week, but I'll bring this one up NEXT week, as first of all I also finished my NAC submition, and I REALLY need some feedback before the contest ends.

If anybody would be kind enough to maybe do a premature review like Rory used to do, I would be overly grateful to him. Of course, it IS a really tough week, so I'm not really counting on that!
Anyways, hope you enjoy!

Lol, sorry about that, already posted...

The name says it all, would be fitting in more of an action scene.
BTW, the loop becomes REALLY after a few listens, so I dunno, put it somewhere where you only hear it a few times at best!
Almost done, wait for me!
Hi, don't wanna do a spamfest here, but I' like to represent myself in the jazz/latin categorie, thought I don't have a specific genre other than "instrumental"...
I've got a special history. I'm 17, I've started playing piano at 7 (stopped at 14, though), I've been playing trumpet and latin percussions since I was 12, I'm currently studying Jazz Trumpet and Composition at college, but I've been studying theory overtime since I'm like 15. I'm quite a theory craver, and it tends to show in my compositions.
I use quite an uncommon tool to write music, a notation software rather than a sequencer, to write my music, wich basically means I write my music on a score, and what is heard is the computer simulating how it would sound, hence the crappy sound quality.
Nevertheless, I believe I'm slowly gaining in recognition, and so I believe, as proclaimed in a famous jazz song, that "I'm begining to see the light".
And so, check out my stuff, and please retain my candidature!
I've actually got a song named Credits that's about 20-30 seconds long and is pretty comedic.

But seriously, some reserched jazz, not indie/pop crap, in the direction of, I don't know, Bebop, swing, third-stream, or even the cheesiest of all, Dixieland!

Gershwin is actually a composer, who incorporated jazz into orchestral music, like in his musical Porgy and Bess, wich is what I'm kind of going for. Here's a link
I'm also going for Bernstein, see "West Side Story", thought you probably already have!
Thanks again, I'll start it right away!

But really, bass goes on 4ths, each bar have a function. If you consider bass notes as 4th and you p;ay swinged 8ths you'll see I'm right.
Oh I guess maybe you're speaking 120 bpm on halfs, I was implying 240 bpm on 4ths. Maybe we were all just saying the same thing differently...
Happy new year everyone!
W00t, I got 5th!
Thanks alot for holding the contest, and don't give up, I'm sure there'll be better attendency next year!
Also, grats jkap1!
Also, just sayin', the speed for C-Jam Blues is 240, not 120.
Sorry for double post
At 10/29/10 10:48 AM, sorohanro wrote: Hi
There are no augmented or diminished in "C-Jam Blues", there is just one (quite simple substitution, VI instead of I and a II instead of IV, both just minor chords).
The structure goes like:
||: I | IV | I | I |
IV |IV | I | VI|
II | V | I-VI| II-V:||
That in C major translate to:
||: C | F | C | C |
F | F | C | A-min|
D-min| G7 | C A-min | D-min G7:||
Also I kind of put a 7th almost on every chord, just for good luck. Hope that helps.
Oooh, quite an interesting progression you've got there, it's exactly the one I had to do for my term exam on the trumpet. I see you plugged the jewish scale on the 8th and 11th bar, it's open for a lot of interesting things.
For people who don't know, the jewish is the dominant of a harmonic minor (minor with a major 7th), wich in the case of C-Jam Blues would represent for the VIth degree: A-Bb-C#-D-E-F-G-A. I'll post an example with the backing track soon.
Also, alot of people here seem to hate theory. I've read the whole thread, and that hate would actually be directed to the schools that teach music through theory. Being myself a music student, I have quite the insight on what's going on inside these schools, and I'm under the impression no one here has even attended music school, and are basing their arguments over speculations or stereotypes seen in movies and whatnot.
My current courses, besides musical-theory and solfege, are all based on building experience for improvisation, musicsmanship and technique. I have combo class, in wich I learn the ways of playing in a band, and teachers encourage students to improvise with their heart, and not just the scales.
Heck, they teach us that the best improviser is the one that plays AROUND the keys, and not WITHIN them.
Netherless, they teach us the scales, arpegios and modes anyways, because to play around the scales, you need to know them first. And impro theory is meant to make you understand what makes a solo so good, so you know what you're playing when you do so.
So I hope I make myself clear when I say theory is good for making you understand what you're doing, so later on you'll be able to make more complex stuff. And it's just as good for composition...
Happy new year everybody!
Cheers,
Samuel Hébert

Yeah, thanks! I bought a new laptop, so I'm now mobile, and since it's infinitely more powerful than my previous one, I can also play GAMES!

I can't believe that out of the 32 people who promised they could work on this project, only 13 people submitted a track. I can't justify having a live show to just showcase 13 tracks (as excellent as they are). During this week I will reveal an order in which the running order would have gone, but there will be no live show. The results will be posted on new years day. All applicants who failed to submit pieces and did not get in touch, will be disqualified, both from this contest and the next one. I just find it rude that people have signed up to this and not kept me updated, not to mention it's a stressful thing to put an organiser through.
Starting in 2011 there will only be one RAC contest each year, taking place in the summer. It's a lot of work organising the contest and when applicants do this it makes you wonder what the point is in organising the event.
Usually only the top 5 placing entries of each contest would be granted automatic qualification for the next one, but because I feel so strongly right now, 7 from this contest will be granted auto-qualification as a strong thank you to those who kept their word, and to apologise for the cancellation of the live show.
Ack, that's quite a bad ratio!
Don't worry, I think I speak for all when I say we understand your point of view, nobody wants to be in your shoes. You've done a great job organising the event each year, but if you feel that there isn't enough submitions to actually make a show out of it, I wont blame you.
The only point I disgress is, given that this probably isn't the first time you've organised this event during the winter, previous holdings were probably more popular, and if not, I'd recomend moving the deadline one way or the other, for doing a contest during the holidays is maybe a bit suicidal...
Anyways, hope you didn't lose too much trust for all newgrounders, for there is good here, and who knows, maybe the people who didn't submit their piece will all do so at the very last minute?
Also, while we're at it, has my entry been accepted?
Cheers,
Samuel Hébert
Sorry for the double post, just to make it clear, the begining is the same as Project World, a song I posted here two weeks ago, I didn't re-post the song.
Merry Christmas to all fellow RRCers!
I've just submitted my submition for the RAC 5 contest, and I got beeten down by some moronic zero-bombers... If anyone could help me out with the score, it would really be great. Also, here's the link:

I forgot to take a pic of my DAW, and I'm not at home, but I already posted one, so you'll have to hold on to that one. PM me if you need an other one though, I'll post it as soon as I get home.
Also I was wondering: Where do we write the research and, how does it have to be written?
Anyways, hope you enjoy, and Merry Christmas!
Cheers,

Lol, bad call Steph!
Anyways, while I'm at it, Merry Christmas to all!
I've already written the names of the country(ies) I'd like to represent, but I've realised it may have been not clear enough. I've already started a project that implies exotic folklore, and it comes as a showcase of multiple countries around the world, to recreate some sort of world tour.
I was wondering if it was OK. If so :
Name : CamoShark
Country(ies) represented : Lebanon(if I can only take one, I'll be taking this one), Tunisia, Pakistan and Cuba
Name of the Project: Project World
At 12/19/10 07:10 PM, NeonProject wrote: I'm pretty sure that DAW is against this sites rules. :/
How so?
I use Sibelius, a music notation software, in wich I write partitions that are then played virtualy by the CPU. I am not using existing scores, and I'm not copying anybody.
I've re-checked the rules, and I really don't see the issue, so I hope it's all cleared now.
Lol, just bought it today, I've been wishing to do so for weeks now, but since it's going into Beta tomorrow and therefor will have a price gain and a revision to the free update garantee...
One hell of a great game, I'de recomend it to anyone with a lot of free time on their hands!
