Yeah, well of course it's open to discussion, I'm just saying they're pretty beast for their money's worth, whatever your proeminent genre.

How about a Hispanic, Matador kind of feel? I know it isn't really related in any case with the month, but hell, it could be fun, and I certainly don't think it's been done in a while!
Or anything Jazz related? :3

That being said I've got this album cover to show you all! When the songs are all submitted they will be compiled so you can download them all at once as an RAC 2012 Album :) You will all be credited and links to your NG pages for the tracks will be included in the details :)
So here is the album cover designed by JebbaL!
Wow, awesome cover art!
I've been working heavily on my track, here's a demo track I made:

It's really much more of a Smooth-Jazz Funk track, hope y'all enjoy!

I'm generalizing.
My thoughts exactly, I feel a lot of people are weak minded and are perpetually prone to simply follow the voice that seems to accord itself to their own beliefs the most in these kinds of situations.
I've personally never attended to these types of events up until today, simply because of exactly the kind of situation I got involved in. People with strong words can turn the most rational of beings into the most primal animal, and everyone knows the IQ of a crowd is less than half of every component's individual IQ...

Hmm, yeah, I guess it is. I can't say I didn't enjoy the feeling, but now that conscience has come back, I can't feel else than bad in hindsight of the things I did there. :\

Because you may not have done anything to start the macing, but that doesn't mean someone else in the crowd didn't hit a cop in the face with a beer bottle or something. That would more than justify them to open up the mace cans.
I'm glad you think like that, as compared to the majority of the population. Most people'll simply accuse us of being hippy activists because of this, but at least the whole thing was worth the effort, as because of this we're on every headline of the media outlets, and even though the thing's sort of tainted in negativism because of the ending, the media's mostly on our side and emphasize the first part rather than the second part. We even got a few interviews following the initial rioting where we got the chance to explain our gestures.
Generally when there are protests that large, you're pretty much guaranteed to have a few bad apples in there that just wanna "start shit"... It's practically inevitable. And once someone "starts shit", group mentality kicks in and everything goes to hell which destroys any chance the protest has to be taken seriously.
That. I had to stop people throwing stuff at first, but when they started to threaten us with mace and overly aggressive gestures, I feel the group thinking might have gotten the better of me.
And that's fine if you worded it wrong... I made a typo in my follow up post pointing out a typo.
I didn't notice until you pointed it out :P

I really hope you're not proud of your little escapade, because riots only hurt your cause, not help it. The second a protest becomes a riot, everyone in that "protest" becomes a criminal. Are criminals taken seriously when they want something changed? No.
I guess I didn't explain the pre-riot part on the bridge. The original idea was to pacifically block the bridge to get more media coverage, and the actual blockade was supposed to only last around 15 minutes. The actual part that I detailed about the start of the actual rioting occurred once the police started macing people, in a similar manner to what happened a few weeks earlier during another student protest.
I can't say I'm especially proud of how the whole thing ended, but I feel it was only an impulsive response to the preceding events.

Just to be clear, I'm a pro-peace activist, and the actions I've done today were acts of last resort. In NO WAY do I support violence as a way to solve your problems.
Yeah, reread that and it sounds a bit weird. just wanted to add a quick humorous TLDR, but it's genuinely crap, doesn't even represent my actual thoughts.
I totally respect the cops and their role in keeping a sense of security in the city, and them only doing their job and such, and I now sort of regret even writing that part :\
In any case, hope no one thinks any less of me because of this, I'm not trying to offend anyone here, only relate the series of events that have happened today.

So far we've had 6 confirmed out of 20. Very disappointing effort.
I guess they're either working too hard on their song to reply, or they simply feel their active participation in the thread makes up for it.
Also, perhaps simply because they signed up only recently? I don't really feel they'd actually need to confirm their participation if they only JUST asked to participate...
In any case, hard at work on my piece right now, I'll eventually post a WIP. It's quite different from what I first had in mind, but I really like how it's turning out too, so I don't mind! :3
Student Riot
Hi fellow musicians, how's everyone been doing? 'Cause I've been on the front line of a student riot and took quite a beating with the police in the process!
It all started this morning, where around 15000 students gathered together for one of Quebec's biggest protests EVER, and we were peacefully protesting about tuition fees augmenting by more than 33% through the next couple of years. It was already pretty epic, but the fun was just about to start.
I just came there to passively protest like everyone else, and me and a couple of friends and random people were jamming to cheer the troops. Once we reached the intended goal though, a group of a few thousands dispatched to what we thought was the starting point of the protest.
We were actually following the more extremist part of the protest, and we were heading to the main bridge (the city's an island) to completely jam the traffic during rush hour, which, as you could imagine, is a tad more extreme than a simple protest.
I was happily drumming along, not aware of the group's intentions, until I started to notice SWAT officers walking around the roads we were taking. After the first police barrage and the whole group taking a wrong turn, I somehow found myself leading the group alongside the other leaders of the dispatch.
My role had suddenly shifted from simple cheering to strategic aural direction. My drumming suddenly became a beacon to which everyone followed whilst we evade police blockades, which ultimately lead us to victory as the troops were not able to follow our path and prevent us from reaching our goal.
Once we DID reach our goal though, it didn't take long for the SWAT to come and turn this up to now peaceful protest into a riot for freedom of speech.
Don't ask me why, but to have come to that point, I decided I couldn't back down, so when the force started to gather, I felt compelled to actively participate in the now open war against the system.
I joined the front line (we were about 5, including my friend who decided to support my action), and I armed myself with a broken sing as a mace and a shield. I was briefed what my rights were in case of arrest, and drawn a supportive lawyer's number on my wrist, just in case I'd need juridical resorts.
And then all hell broke loose. I was so pumped at that point I barely remember anything now, but I can say I gave at least equivalent beating to the opponent as to what I received. I've got cuts all over my hands from handling the wooden post, a couple bruises from various truncheon hits, and a good macing, but in the end, I feel the events were on our side until the reinforcements came along.
We then fled to a close-by radio station who was supportive to our cause, and when we saw the various armed forces coming, we knew we had to resort to gathering up for one last push to the nearest metro station if we wanted the least "casualties". So on our signal, we pushed and found no resistance. We were suspecting a huge blockade at some point, but what we saw was a total surprise.
They had guessed our plan and moved ALL their forces to the park and surroundings of where the station was. With mounted police, bike police, SWAT, helicopters and a crap tone of blockades in every direction, we ended up assuring the riot was over to prevent any further beating. Surprisingly, me and my friend managed to safely exit with no arrest, even though we were on the front line the whole time...
So yeah, I guess there was a bit of Ernesto Che Guevara inside of we I wasn't aware of, who decided to show up uninvited, though I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.
I'll be joining forces once more with my fellow rioters next week as we head forth to the parliament, this time to end it all as pacifically as possible.
TLDR: I punched a cop in the face, and I liked it.

My question to my fellow newgrouders is as followed:
How far have you guys been to support a cause you love?
Ohai, it's been a while!
Here's my MAC entry, it got a really great score and a lot of views, but not a single review! (excluding my roommate's, hardly counts :P)

Glad to see the RRC's still running strong!
I'm confirming, though I don't really have anything to present, fault given to the fact the deadline's too close from the MAC's deadline :\
I did do some research, and am currently transcribing some Avishai Cohen (Original), for the sake of fully understanding the concept (and also just because it's awesome).
Anyways, give or take, I'll get to work as soon as I get back home, I'm currently on the go right now.

We need to know exactly what genre you're looking for, what it'll be about, if there's any incentive (monetary or other) to try to fill your needs.
Are you looking for something like this?

Finally got around to posting mine, after around a month and a half of work!
I'm completely exhausted from the work done in the past week, hardly got any sleep, and I've used 100% of my time working on this.
Good luck to all the other competitors, I've heard so much good stuff up to now, I can hardly wait to see the results!

Check http://www.head-fi.org/a/buying-guide-headphones-by-price-ra nge out.
Also, I've heard really good things about the Brainwavz HM5. http://www.head-fi.org/t/585281/review-brainwavz-hm5-a-new-n eutral-champ - I've heard that they're even better than the ATH-M50s, for $40 less. Bad part is they're still on preorder so you wont get them until the end of this month.
I personally own a pair of ATH-M50s. They sound really good, but slightly recessed mids and the bass is a bit over-emphasized. The Sennheisers you picked will be more detailed, but will not provide nearly the quality of isolation that the M50s provide: people will be able to hear what you're listening to and you'll be able to hear background noise/other people talking much more clearly.
If you have a dedicated mixing room and you don't need the isolation for recording, then the Senns will be the better choice. If you're living in a dorm or planning on using them as portable headphones, get the M50s.
Awesome, thanks for showing me that site, I'll be using it for future reference!
What annoys me though, and it annoyed me on other review sites too, is that the quality of the product is always compared to others of it's price range. I KNOW which are the best of their price range, there's just no way to know if the price leap is worth the change in quality, hence why I need to ask for personal opinions...
As for the Brainwavz, they seem really interesting, I'll keep them in sight when the time to choose comes.
Thanks again!
So glad I made it in time!

The best of luck to everybody participating in this competition!
I've been searching throughout various review sites for the ideal headphones, and I've arrested myself on two (maybe three) choices.
Sennheiser HD 598 (which I can get for 250$)
Audio-Technica ATH-M50 (which I can get for 150$)
I'm currently using a TASCAM US-122 MKII sound card, though I might get myself something better at some point, and a Sennheiser e835 microphone, which again, I'll definitely be getting something better in the near future.
I'll be interchangeably working on live recording, audio synthesis AND sequencing, so I was wondering if the extra 100$ is worth it.
Keep in mind I'm ready to pay a little more for ergonomy and style, since I'll be wearing them on the go too. I also absolutely want circumaural earphones, because I'll also be using them when moving around town.
Just asking for some professional advice here, and if anyone's got anything else to suggest, fine by me!

Hey! Just letting a notice my song's nearing completion, but I'm having a hard time with the final bits.
I really hope to post it in time, I've been working my ass off on this piece for the last month, and I think it's safe to call it my best work yet!
I'm also just as amazed as everybody else as to the general quality of the submissions this year, it seems everybody's given their best, and it's highly encouraging!
Don't know if it's actually true, but here's from the wiki:

Also, the rev share works under a CPM (Cost per Thousand (M in roman numerals)), which means you get neat profit for every thousand page views, so at 500 you get none.

Sorry for the inactivity, I've been working really hard on my MAC submition. I haven't given a lot of time on my RaC submition, but once the other song's done, I'll have all the time in the workld to work on this project.
