You actually had to do a concise effort NOT to post in the ad thread. I'm amazed.
Unless this was intentional, but no one would ever do that, would they?
Wow Tom, what a FANTASTIC leap forward in progression!
This right there might actually make it so that the portal rises from the ashes. As it stands, the current license setup had been outdated for years and was so restrictive that it essentially prevented anything commercial OR non-commercial from being posted, essentially only offering decent options to a VERY slim portion of composers.
Keep it up with the forward-thinking-ness, this has been an amazing year in terms of progress for NG! :)

My new contribution to the fan arrangement album called Harmony of Heroes: Final Smash, available for download at www.harmonyofheroes.net/finalsmash .
It's a bit of a shame that this is the third consecutive NGASS where my gifter vanishes into thin air but, alas, that's always a risk when you go with crowd-powered initiatives such as these.
The amount of people who actually want to make something for the unlucky bunch this year is certainly invigorating though, shows the solidarity this forum has grown in the past couple of years. :)
@Breed @frootza Thanks guys, much appreciated, can't wait to see what both of you cook up if you go through with this. Same goes for the rest, obviously! :P
@Whirlguy the mere mention of Allan Holdsworth instantly made me check out your stuff, and you just made yourself a new fan! ^_____^
Track finished, published, and sent.
I think my giftee will be positively surprised with I sent him/her, as it is VERY MUCH outside my usual comfort zone. Either way, he/she's up for something different, at the very least.
I am down to clown until I go brown and drown.
Also, anything jazzy with prog/funk/world influences, in any order of preference from Mr. Santa. :3

But the the idea behind it is good-- one needs different perspectives to understand it which I think is key here.
Oh and the website link is the same as the video link.
Comics don't have to be funny to be relevant, it is merely another way to express an idea.
I would highly recommend you take a look at the contents of the website itself, it goes into some interesting concepts of analysis that might interest someone such as yourself! :)
Hey folks!
I've been reading up some useful concepts in this very interesting website called "L'oeil qui entends, l'oreille qui voit" for about a year now, but I've never been able to share it with my friends around these parts due to the fact that it was written in French. That is, until very recently, since its first half has now been officially translated into English!
Henceforth, I would like to offer this to people interested in learning some more advanced concepts that the ones usually offered in online tutorials like musictheory.com or the likes, while still being able to comprehend it through sheet music, audio examples and, the bit I find the most unique and interesting, comics!
Yes indeed! While the idea might appear silly at first, the idea of incorporating two characters debating over some hard-to-grasp concepts like ornamental chords is surprisingly effective in laying out their meaning. This has also been applied in a similar fashion in this video.
In any case, I'll let you go with an example of the discussion going on on said website. Please let me know what you think about this, I don't know if this is something Newgrounds folk are interested in, but I sure hope at least one or two of you finds this at least mildly entertaining!

In that case, I suggest you talk a bit more about his vision for your music, the reasons he has to want to offer his services to you, and his expectations on your part.
If the deal sounds reasonable and he isn't asking for anything unreasonable, I'd suggest going for it, as long as you have a written agreement.
I actually built myself a rig only a few months back, and I had a budget of 1200$, so you can check out my setup and go from there.
Motherboard: Asus Z97-C
Graphic card: ASUS GTX750TI-OC-2GD5
HDD: 1TB Barracuda ST1000DM 003
SDD: Samsung 120GB 840 EVO
RAM: Can't recall the name, but it's 16 GB DDR3
Case: CoolerMaster 690 II Advanced USB 3.0 Black ATX Mid Tower Case
And some basic DVD-reader. I already had the CD for W7, so that helped cut the costs, not to mention all the exterior gear like the soundcard and USB hubs. You can also increase the size of the SSD to something that would better suit your need, I mostly just use it for my main programs and the OS.

Yes, but the people asking for free stuff AREN'T ASKING FOR 90 MINUTES WORTH OF PROFESSIONAL-GRADE MUSIC.
I cant speak for my friend or their postpro budget allocation. There is no money for a composer.
So you acknowledge that there IS a budget, but that your friend has determined to not give a single PENNY's worth to someone doing a professional score?
I am not pming working composers begging them for their time. Im posting in a public forum, looking for a budding composer here.
Addendum: you're looking for someone who isn't in the biz and who's gullible to accept to give his time for free.
The opp came to me, i am passing on it for a lot of the same reasons you guys are. There is no need to accuse me of being disrespectful or undermining our line of work. Take that up with audiojungle.
How charitable of you.
We're not accusing you of anything, but surely you can't possibly NOT see how disgusting your friend's business practice is, can you?
Furthermore, you aren't giving any information about the guy, so by doing this you're agreeing to take the flack that your friend will be taking for this.
Its volunteer work.
No, it's charity work, and your friend most assuredly isn't an orphanage.
Even if I farted into a mic for 30 minutes I'd still ask for compensation.
Your friend disgusts me and quite frankly, and he's the reason that we have a hard time finding a living off of our work.
Welp, looks like the deadline has silently passed, rip in pieces johnfn, and good luck to everybody! :)

Wow, umad?
Welp, can't say we didn't see this coming. In the end, we just weren't able to give enough time to this competition to keep up, even as a team. This should definitely make you feel proud, @PirateCrab, seeing as you've also had your fair share of IRL stuff (sorry for your loss, btw).
In any case, I bow down to everyone that's made it this far into the competition, and I'll be keeping a close eye on this year's roster, which has certainly proved to be able to produce amazing content (gogogo @soundchris ^^) as well as to all the judges who've been working non-stop to make this part of the web a place of diversity and quality!
I'll also be keeping the list up to date, so I'll still be involved in this anyways. ;)

The week started pretty slowly on my part, but I got a massive boost of inspiration, and now we've almost written 2 minutes of stuff, so yeah, things are looking up good so far. :)
Also, you better watch yer ass, @PirateCrab, 'cause we've got quite the project in store for you! }:¬D

Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima (full name btw) is my favorite song to show to people when I want to show the extent of modern music theory, just to freak them out. :P
Another notable example would be "The Narrow Gardens" by Eyvind Kang, which actually only dates to 2011.
Still, overall, nice b8, OP.
Hey Lightkeeper, sounds like an awesome project you're working on! :)
I believe I'm the guy you're looking for, as I've essentially been working on EXACTLY this kind of stuff for the past few years. I work with University-grade brass players on a very regular basis, and have my own semi-permanent band for recordings.

20 hours? I thought the deadline was noon today...unless you meant 11:59AM and not PM...these damn CLOCKS. Well, since Steamy's schedule and time zone are completely opposite of mine, I'm going to put a proper post of our entry anyways and hope for the best *wrings out wet laundry while smiling*
11:59PM is the correct appellation to describe one minute before midnight, as it goes from 11:59PM to 12:00AM. ;)
FINALLY a competition for the common folks!
That said, I know a few people who'd win this competition without too much trouble. :v I might give this a shot, if I get the time.

The tower on the lower right is a Cooler Master, my fiancé's old computer, which he built. It's got 4GB RAM, DDR2 (upgradable to 16) and 250GB HDD space I can play with. My processor is an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ (3GHz). I could've used more HDD space, but other HDDs I have.... well they've prevented the PC from booting up. I think it sufficient.
I'm back on Windows 7, but 64-bit this time. Mic and MIDI keyboard are both Samson (Go and Graphite M32 respectively), speakers are Creative I-Trigue (2.1). They're about 5 years old, but still in perfect working order. I can now hear my mixing errors, where I previously couldn't.
I also recently acquired a nice pair of headphones. Specifically, Sennheiser HD201.
It may come across as depressing to some that my NGADM audition, Chant de l'Éveil, was done on a rickety, eight-year-old Acer laptop with a Celeron processor and broken screen hinges and missing keys.... I'm just grateful for this pleasant change of phase.
I'd say your studio has certainly had a much-needed upgrade from your previous setup (which also was an improvement from, well... your phone :P).
What I'm especially of is seeing you happy and in a much better situation than you've been in the past year or so. Feels good to see! :)
It'd be my honor for you to include my music into your streams. Feel free to use any of my music, although I recommend these ones especially:

Happy birthday, you silly lawyer/engineer/musician/composer/Bavarian!
You enjoy yourself in whatever crazy tradition you people have, and keep aside a bit of that sauerkraut! :3
I've been on a constant cycling of undervaluation, constant self-doubt, procrastination because of the dread of facing said-doubt; self-loathing for not accomplishing anything, an immense sense of dread as I see time fade away, unwillingness to invest time in my work because of the aforementioned self-doubt; further under valuate my work because of my inconsistency, further procrastination, et cetera ad nauseam...
Not really been in a great mood in the past year as a result, so yeah...
You should try out this guy's channel
Phew!
Took about two hours to put up, but the job is finally done. a Detailed Results segment has been created, and the second round has been added.
Again, feel free to suggest additional stats to add, as long as it doesn't take too much time or space, I will gladly add it! :)

Well quite frankly, not giving ANY information at all is more likely to get this sorted out as spam than the other way around. You can freely describe your website's services to garner interest from the viewers, if that's what you want.
This forum's policies for advertisement is that you can't promote yourself or something that is obviously a scam (aka the way things were originally looking). If you have something that could help out the other members on this forum, feel free to share it! :)
