Response to: (animator) CS4 to CS5... worth it? Posted September 2nd, 2010 in Game Development

It's a little bit better, but not really worth the price. You could always download the trial to see if you like it.

Response to: Timeline control in AS2? Posted August 31st, 2010 in Game Development

you need to put

_root.gotoAndPlay(2)

instead of just gotoAndPlay(2) .

Response to: Needing help with a game over Posted August 31st, 2010 in Game Development

just do a hit test between the player and diespot, then move it to the gameover frame.

if(character.hitTest(_root.diespot)){
gotoAndPlay("GameOver")
//or whatever frame the gameover is
}

You need to actually understand what you are doing, this is very easy stuff.

Try adding _root.

on(release){
_root.gotoAndPlay(36)
 }
Response to: Which would be a good trial? Posted August 31st, 2010 in Game Development

You should probably just go for the latest version, although it depends if you would be using it for making games or making animations.

Response to: Creating A Login Page. Posted August 21st, 2010 in Game Development

You can use an if statement to check if a textbox matches a string, then navigate to the frame needed.

if(username.text == "username" && password.text == "password"){
gotoAndPlay("correct")
}else{
gotoAndPlay("incorrect")
}

You could do either, but it's better you put the listeners in the document class and movement functions in the player class.

Push all the enemies into an array, then make a loop hit-testing each one.

Response to: FPS change as2 Posted August 20th, 2010 in Game Development

I don't think it's possible to dynamically change the frame rate in as2, but it is possible in as3.

I have always found the best way is too get a book on it. They can be quite expensive, but it will teach you everything you need to know basic and advanced. I can recommend Essential Actionscript 3.0
