This is one possible way of doing:

1. Create a loop that creates the objects and push every object into an array.
2. Make it that every object access this array and run a collision detection procedure.

Sorry guys for not posting for a long time but I've been extremely busy with university classes...next week are mid-terms.
I recently uploaded my latest game and wondered what the good fellows at the Barrack would think of it.
Here it is:

P.S. Switched back from Linux to my Windows PC because the support for Flash is rudimentary at the Linux side...I was testing Linux and that is another reason for my absence from Newgrounds

That must have been quite an experience. Was the girl hot? If she was then it would have been that much more perfect for a horror movie. How long did the blackout last?

Plus I am an RA and I will most likely be working in the Res Life office and hopefully off campus as well. Ironically because I will have so much to do I think it will structure my life and I will actually animate more! I look forward to it all though.

That sounds like a lot of things to do for the upcoming semester. As for my part, I just started my first semester in computer science and I'm loving it. I'm excited because from there I will be able to branch out to any field of interest that has to do with computers, and now-a-days everything has to do with them. This means that I will have a wide field of action.
A dream job for me would be to work in the video game industry as a game developer or head of the programming department.

Well actually, I deleted them all by myself even though it took a couple of days to do it; it was quite enervating. Now I know better than to leave my posts open to "real-time comments." Those spammers really need to get a life.

Yup! I'm an animation major. I would like to work somewhere like Pixar and work on animated feature films but I would be just as happy working for a game company. Anywhere is good as long as enjoy my job. I do want to learn web design as well so I can make extra money. I hope to start my career in Boston at a local animation studio and then move up from there. How about you Slnt? Are you in college?

Animation is a great career as long as you enjoy it and do it well. My friend's brother graduated as an animator and landed a job at Blue Sky Studios; he worked on the Ice Age movies.
Like I said, if you enjoy what you do, you will do it well. Hope it all goes according to plan and that you become a successful and recognized animator within the industry.

In summary, ActionScript 3.0 is all about Object Oriented Programming. Like Rustygames said, maintainability is where OOP languages shine on, not to mention that most modern programming languages are designed with OOP in mind.
If you learn AS3, you will open the doors to other languages such as Java and C++..

If Newgrounds pays more than MochiAds is probably because the average CPM is worth a lot more due to the demographics. For example, viewers from Europe and North America are a lot more valuable in CPM terms than viewers from Asia and since most Newgrounds visitors are from the US and Europe this means a higher CPM.

I too got sun burned the day before yesterday. I'm naturally pale so I wanted to get a tan, the problem was that I overdid it and instead of getting a nice dark color, I became red like a tomato.
This kind of sucks because unless I keep on getting sun exposure, my skin will start peeling off.

Newgrounds offers in-game ads for movies and games; all you have to do is download their API (Application Programming Interface) and modify it to link to your account.
MochiAds is the other service that many developers/artists implement in their work.

To tell you the truth, ad revenue from Flash games is minimal at best. You should try to get a sponsorship or find another way to monetize your work.
Like everyone else has already stated, the CPM (Cost per mille) oscillates anywhere from $0.1 to $1, with $0.3 being the average for a good submission.
This means that you will get 30 cents per one-thousand impressions of your work regardless of clicks; in order to make $100 you will need to secure 100,000 impressions.
In summary, to make money from ads your game/movie has to be exceptionally good. Don't let this discourage you however, as this should serve as an incentive to improve and get better.

Judging from his past submission, I wouldn't want to flag that submission as it may come from its legitimate owner. It's better to let it pass, than to risk unjustifiably flagging a submission.
You're probably right, I guess I didnt look too far into the user's history. Well, I asked a mod to delete the post, so nobody else will risk it. Sorry about that!

It happens to all of us. Next time make sure that you investigate further into the submission so that you don't end up flagging a legitimate flash.
You know, this makes me wonder about the difficulty of gaining or losing whistle ranks. It seems that is a lot easier to lose your rank than to gain it. In my case, I've been in Bronze for a long time even though I have been flagging abusive reviews and submission.

Sorry guys for not posting as much as I would like to but I have been quite busy developing my game and starting my own hosting company.
I'm also preparing to start the university on the 20th so I have been reviewing and such.
I see that the forums have picked up a lot on activity and the conversations are quite interesting. I always like seeing the barracks in action.

Last game I developed I made some money off it with a non-exclusive sponsorship. This time around I'm hoping to secure an exclusive one and make more.
There are lots of differences this time around as I am really trying my best to make a fun and interesting game; the previous games were mere tests to make something useful from my knowledge. I'm also using good OOP and creating a game framework for future development. I feel I have improved very much since the last game I created.
Although I'm not done with it, I predict I will be in about a week.

Here are some screenshots of my gameas of today:

Posted: 07/05/09 01:21 PM

Why complicate the guys life with Design Patterns? Even though it is good practice to always reference to the interface rather than the implementation, you would be making things overly-complicated to the task at hand. I doubt, the guy is interested in creating a framework. He only wants to know how to reference properties of one class inside another class.
Sometimes software engineers run the risk of becoming dogmatic in their practices, and this creates major delays on simple projects...

However, I've now added another code to try and move the flash along once the health is below or equal to 0. Here's the code for the frame:

stop();

health = 100

if (health == 0 or health < 0) {
gotoAndPlay(2);
}

The thing is it isn't moving to the second frame. Even when the health goes below 0 it remstays at the same frame and doesn't prgress the flash. Any help?

The reason why that is happening is because you are using the wrong method for what you want to do. You should be using gotoAndStop(2) instead of gotoAndPlay(2).
The frame actually goes to the second one, but as soon as it gets to it, on the next ENTER_FRAME event it will go back to the first frame, and since you have the stop() method on the top, it will stop.
This is the revised code:

: stop();
:
: health = 100
:
: if (health == 0 or health < 0) {
: gotoAndStop(2);
: }
