Partners in Time personally had things wrong with it too. In my opinion. The second game had no side quests at all. Get to a location, something happens, fight your way to a more important location, fight a boss, come back with a piece of that Cobalt Star. But it did have the most charm of the three games. I laughed a lot more in the second than in the other two. Those Bros. are just the SILLIEST duo I ever did see.
It was very funny, indeed, and your right, Partners in Time didnt have any sidequests. But Mario & Luigi series never really had any GOOD sidequests, just collecting. BORING! (In my opinion of course ;))
The third game did have a good number of sidequests. Finding those Mushroom balls hidden in Toad Town gets you some neat awards. Finding the combination to Bowser's freezer room gets you into a very awesome battle that I'd rather not spoil. It's a shout out to the last Mario&Luigi game. And did you get all the attack pieces in each location? Collect them all! And finally, there's the completion of The Gauntlet. Fighting off the super versions of past bosses.
Mushroom Balls, meh, those puzzles like for the combination were boring. Collecting the Attack Pieces were pretty bland, but it does beat having to buy them like in Partners in Time. I would have liked to have seen Bros. Attacks again. Shout out? Fawful never mentioned anything about Superstar Saga, if he would have mentioned anything about Cackletta or something, well... I like stuff like that, I just wish Popple would have been in this game... :(
Plus there are minigames, and the Bros. attacks are more fun and less of a chore to pull off then in the past two games. I mean, I never banged my head against the wall when I failed an attack. Unlike some previous adventures in the first two games.
Most of the minigames pissed me off! My favorite one though, is the one where you give Bowser's arm more strength, I wasnt expecting any sort of simon says kind of rhythm mini game in this game at all.
I sort of wish Mario and Luigi had some new moves. Sure, the game isn't just about them, but they needed to shake it up some more. Not just poor in all the old moves just because they still have potential. It's the reason I always enjoyed playing as Bowser. His moves breathed new life into this series, which unfortunately should be coming to an end now.
Bowser was very awesome to play as, I just wish the inside of Bowser didnt look so bland, and there were too many repetitive enemies.
Three games is enough, and I doubt they can do anything else in the series to keep us fans interested. They brought back the baby versions of Mario and Luigi, we've adventured as Bowser. What's next. I'd like an RPG that didn't involved any of those characters. MAYBE Bowser's own RPG game.
Whats next? Maybe Geno's epic return! :O
But I'd like to see Yoshi have his own RPG. Bowser got his castles destroyed by Mario, and then decides to move to Yoshi's Island, because of how hard it would be to get there, driving out everybody who inhabits the peaceful island. Yoshi tries to stop them, but ends up getting blown into the ocean, arriving at the shores of Toad Town. And Mario and Luigi are off on a vacation, so no help from them. Yoshi must find a way back to his island and kick ass with his multiple attacks. Maybe an action RPG instead. There are hardly any good games in THAT genre. Nintendo needs to come up with one.
Not a bad idea Gustavos, but I would like to see Wario and Waluigi as enemies in the Mario & Luigi series. I know you can imagine this. ;)
And don't you DARE say Super Paper Mario. That was a spinoff platformer and you know it.
