Well the story is one of best reasons to watch it in my opinion. It has some really nice twists, and quite a lot of foreshadowing etc that you wont get unless you watch it twice. It also likes to switch genre quite a lot, and it has a nice way of telling the stories.

The whole first season contains massive amounts of foreshadowing and fridge logic and its not really one you can passively accept while watching, you have to think about it or you wont get everything you can out of it.

Higurashi no naku koro ni is the best anime ever for me. Nothing else even comes close. Seems to play genre roulette by itself, and it works no matter which it chooses although it is primarily a horror. Has a lot of fridge logic too. Here is an awesome action scene.

Must have been compared without taking population into account, because South Africa has so much serious crime that its way out of the UKs league. Crime is the worst problem in South Africa excluding AIDS/HIV, while in the UK its about as much a problem as the rest of western europe.
