Fair Deal On Fees For Uni Students Posted February 13th, 2008 in General

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/fairdealonfee s/

Tuition fees for students increased to £3,000 pa in 2006. The government has belatedly recognised the burden this places on undergraduates and is putting more generous loan/grant arrangements in place for those who begin their courses in 2008. Students who began their courses in 2006 and 2007, and who have to pay the higher tuition fees, will not benefit from the new funding arrangements. All students paying the increased tuition fees should be treated equally. The new funding arrangements should therefore be applied to all those who pay the higher fees.

If you agree with this, sign the petition, and post it on another board you frequent. You can copy and paste this entire paragraph and the link above, it says it all.

That does not mean that the kid won't be dangerous still. You watched the movie, that kid was very unruly and could have easily caused some serious damage, even with cuffs on. Even if he didn't cause damage with cuffs on he would cry brutality and all the same stuff. So they have two option, because they must remove the kid from the premise; he broke the law by tresspassing. One is to risk an extremely dangerous situation by trying to froce the kid out of the building manually, and have the kid claim brutality. The second is to taze the kid and take him out of the building harmlessly, while claiming brutailty. The police chose the better of to evils. That kid caused the problem and he faced the consequences for it.

Actually, further invesytigation, apparantly, revealed the kid was handcuffed after the second tasering. He may well cry brutality if he was cuffed, but I wouldnt' give a fuck. How on earth is tasing someone, and threatening to taze other students proper behaviour?

Threatening to tase other students who asked for their name/badge just goes to show what kind of people we're discussing here.

He didnt' force them to taser him, you dozy fuck, they tazered him because they could and they liked it and you know it as well as I do. They could just as easily have grabbed him, handcuffed him or anything - there were about 3 of them, and they were huge guys.

It's painfully obvious that you, as well as American-Rubbush, and Demonsthenz simply didn't like the guy because he shouted about the Patriot Act. It's disgusting that yout ook pleasure in watching a man being given pain. You're sick, sick people.

Ah, fair call. We dont have medical insurance cards in the UK. Indeed, it would be noted on such a card if he did have one. Seemingly, he didn't.

What makes you think that? Honestly?

? Do YOU think that you'll be tasered today?

Handcuffing requires close proximity to the perp, and after they "GRABBED MY ARM!!!!!!!!!!!" he flipped out.

So BCC, how do you handcuff someone without touching them?

I'm a little confused by this. You dont. Once he flipped out after touching him, if you deem arrest or incapacitation is necessary, you touch him again, grab his arm again and clamp handcuffs on him.

He had a medical condtition? Obviously it wasn't important enough to kept in his wallet for emergency purposes.

I'm just a little confused here. How does he keep a medical condition in his wallet? If you mean his student card, I'm sure he probably didn't THINK he'd be tasered today.

Why? Had they searched the man previously? Did they know his criminal record? Was there a warrant out for his arrest? Was he in a place he wasn't supposed to be in, and asked to leave multiple times preceding the videotaped incident?

Think about that one for a minute.

I should expect they didn't at all. But you can arrest someone without a warrent for someones arrest, and I'm sure there arent Handcuff warrents, are there? Handcuffing him would be a nice, easy way to resolve the situation without causing further pain to the guy, or further commotion and disturbance to the other students.

Yes, this is true. But disobeying multiple direct orders implies the person is anything but.

Did you have a point here? Shouting loudly means he's not dangerous, you've agreed to that, disobeying direct orders implies someone is being civilly disobedient. Handcuff him, not cause him pain.

They tasered him because they did not know if he was a threat. He could've had a blade on him, been on a pyschoactive drug, or a bum off the street looking for a good victim to mug.

I contest the officers were in their full rights to taser this menace to society.

Not as many times as they did, but the initial tasering followed by prompt submission should've been the routine. The fact the guy felt he needed to be a real prick about it just goes to show that cops are people too, who get fed up dealing with assholes who think they're above the system.

Honestly, a man who 'refuses to leave a libary' and 'shouts' is a menace now? Well, that blows all my opinions out of the water. Indeed, he could have been on drugs, had weapons on him, etc. But with his hands in cuffs, all those points would be moot. They could have searched him after they cuffed him.

Indeed, what does a person have to do to warrant the taser? Be unco-operative? Undoubtaly, the guy was being very uncoperative after the initial tasering, as we cen see in the video. Before the first tasering, he must either have been violent, or not violent. Only if the police officers were concerned for their safety should they have initially tasered him, you and I both dont have a clue weather the initial tasering was justified or not (we werent there). However, we appear to be in agreement that the subsequent ones werent.

They're only human. You can find fault here wherever you look, but the fact remains that local city authorities shouldn't have been needed for this punk to play by the rules. For everyone's safety.

It seems completely understandable.

Putting myself in both their shoes, the perp and the cops, I'd align more with the cops sense of duty (and subsequent taser frenzy) than with an antongonizing little punk with an agenda.

But that's just me.

I feel that I, myself would have done what they said much more quickly than this guy. But you cant argue that, with the option of handcuffing or tasering, they chose tasering. It's not hard to handcuff someone, I'm sure, if he's lying on the ground, and you have multiple police officers around him. The guy was being an idiot. Does being an idiot warrent the repeat infliction of pain to cause compliance, rather than equally plausible non-painful methods?

Or did that seem completely legit to you?

I am unaware of the effects of tasers on the muscular structure of the legs and torso. I should imagine it's not favourable. They shouldn't have tasered, they should have handcuffed. Shouting loudly does not imply someone is dangerous. Tasering someone whos only crime was to forget his ID, and then reportedly be an idiot about it isnt right. Handcuff them, remove them, give them a night in the cells, but to intentionally cause pain, multiple times?

Does that seem completely lefit to you?

What exactly is the situation here? He was asked to leave a University Library or something, and got tazered? What exactly could he have been doing to have merited a tazering? Surely they should only be used on occasions where the individual presented an active danger to the police. It shoudlnt' be used when someone is simply refusing to do something, without threats of violence. That's what handcuffs are for.

As someone who has been an AMD fanboy for 2 years, the Core 2 Duo beats anything AMD has yet done into a crokked hat. It's PAINFULLY fucking good. That said, AMD is better than Core 2 Duo for value for money. The cheapest C2D I could get is £250, and a non-shit motherboard, probably another £100. I got my X2 4400+ for £145, and a A8N-SLI SE for £65. They're brilliant for pure processing power, but crap for value for money.
