Ancient Domain Posted 14 hours ago in Writing

Hello writers of Newgrounds,

It has been a while since I posted anything here, and since joining WNG I have felt as if I have been absent for too long. Now, however, I wish to relieve this supposed burden and post something of use.

Ancient Domain has been an interactive story that I have been designing for the past month, and I need to make sure that the timeline is accurate to the main plot and its lore - based heavily on the existence of Atlantis and its previous whereabouts.

Ancient Domain got its name originally from the idea that Atlantean technology is so ancient that it would be almost impossible to discover and find. Atlantis' original location is speculated to either be in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, or in the Antarctica.

There are more reasons to believe the city of Atlantis was underneath the ice plateau's of Antarctica over its original speculated location of an island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean (as philosophised by Plato's fictional works).

The first reason is because the speculation that Atlantis had existed in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean would make it easier to identify and discover ancient treasures, and since there are no known artefacts in the world potentially uncovering this ideology, this concept is already buried. Additionally, when the ice caps melted and potentially sunk Atlantis and its people deep underneath the Atlantic Ocean, there would be tonnes of oil underneath the Atlantic Ocean, so it makes it funnier that if this were the case, the oil companies would be fighting over it for what would seem an ice age.

The best logical explanation for this would be that Atlantis was no so far stretched as people philosophised, and instead was a smaller region spanning to the tip of the equator from Antarctica. The main reason to believe this is that it is illogical for the survivors of Atlantis to have returned south, so they made their way up north on the surface continents. One of these races would eventually become Egyptians (Africa), another Mesoamerican (mostly Mayan) (South America), and lastly the Mesopotamia (Middle East) (in no particular order).

All of these ancient civilisations shared a common theme in terms of writing, and it were symbols. Even today, the Mandarin, Korean and Japanese sub-civilisations of China and Mongolia still use symbols for writing over letters and numbers (modern writing). In terms of symbol recognition, the only real way to identify how they all shared the same basic concept of writing was that all these civilisations used the power of the sun to signify, from an astronomical perspective, what these symbols meant. Because they were all on different points on the earth, the star constellations would differ, and thus their gods and their way of writing was different.

The same fundamental principles still apply, though.

Ancient Domain is a fictional story that attempts to combine ancient history to explain how ancient Atlantis really is, and how Humans of these different races still managed to use the "lack of" technology to accurately identify the years and ages of planets, stars and even the universe, with the Mayans believed to be the most intelligent of them all.

And who better to lead this campaign than Akata Naasun, a once brave female soldier who fought long and hard against the onslaught of the Skasorn on American soil, before eventually getting severely wounded and relieved from battle.

Now it is 2043 AD, and Akata and her friend, Graham Vann, sign up to the American Oceanic Society to uncover the truth behind the Skasorn, where they came from, and potentially reveal Atlantis - believed to be frozen in time at exactly 00:00 hours midnight on January 17th 23,613 BCE, one-second out of sync from it being physically frozen by an ice age effectively wiping out the Atleantean people. The main survivors of the city were buried under ice caps in tunnels previously dug by the Atlanteans themselves. During this time, the survivors dug to freedom, but hit the Atlantic Ocean water in the process, effectively killing almost 70% of the surviving populous.

Those that survived the cave-in of water became mutated as they adapted to rely on marine life to survive, and an infinite resource of water naturally filtered by the caverns and ice caps around them. Possibly the most refreshing water on the planet turned these once intelligent Humans into vicious ocean creatures, feeding on marine life mostly in the Antarctic. The Skasorn, as they called themselves, drifted through the Atlantic Ocean until reaching a rift - a crack in the middle of the Ocean and unseen by the naked eye - where the Skasorn started using this invisible force to communicate with the Ether. They saw the destruction of the surface world, led by greed and ill comfort. They saw their beloved races fall to the Romans, the Mongolians, the British, and now the Westerns corrupted by a sickness only time can heal.

So few original Atlanteans survive to this day, and the Skasorn waged war against the surface Humans, murdering millions while harnessing the power of the rift. They use the power of laser technology to destroy buildings, extremely dark magic to torment the souls of the corrupted rendering world leaders useless, and they used their wild numbers to murder almost 300 million people worldwide. America, the most afflicted of all, suffered tremendous economical and production losses that it was impossible to recover, and coupled by the fact that their leaders are being tortured and possessed into endless mind-bogging chaos. The Skasorn had wiped out New York City - literally - and left debris in their wake across the entire East Coast.

The Skasorn had but one message remaining: "We will not regret our destruction this day. Your pathetic warmongering attitude will go down in history. Any further attempt to corrupt the en masse of society at the sole expense of the people who build you will result in our return. Your ignorance will be your death. Your only answer is to seek peace, and we will assure the protection of this planet while Humans are unable to do so adequately and with harmony. You have one decade to return to peace, or we will call the spirits of this planet to commit genocide to the species. We have that power, any attempt to resist will result in your downfall."

Their message was clear, and that marked the end of a two-year war that practically destroyed the US and led to the poverty of 80% of its population, with a civil war so inevitable that would effectively end their long and poor political history. Not all was lost, though.

Akata Naasun was born for one purpose: to potentially become America's greatest spiritual leader, and that is where YOU - the player - come in. If you wish to seek enlightenment, to bring peace and harmony to the American people and reveal the Ancient Domain, to come to terms with one of the most vicious creatures known to mankind - the Skasorn - then this interactive story should test the might and the power of the mind.

I have still yet to devise the first chapter of this interactive story, and test its base mechanics. I hope to get this done by the end of January/start of February. The first chapter will be free to try, and if you wish, you will be given the option to purchase a copy (at what you believe the game is worth) and I will provide you with continuous updates, bug fixes and patches and potentially Soundtracks, Concept Art and Game Guide.

Of course, I am not going to riddle further on the speculation on this games first release, so I would just like to finalise by saying that Ancient Domain is a very ambitious project with few people involved. That is myself (the developer and story writer), Seth Massey (the one and only Artist) and the folks at Versilian Studios who will be involved in the projects soundtrack later down the line.

This is a very low-budget game, but that does not mean I will not put effort into it. Despite it being low-budget, I do hope the starting value will be the eventual release of the first Chapter.

Thank you everyone for your support and cooperation in advance!

I've been away too long Posted November 5th, 2014 in Writing

It's been a while since I tread a footstep here on NG, and one of the main reasons for that is because I am working on a game engine, which will also come with its own editor.

The game engine is an interactive story engine, and will allow you writers to creative visually-engaging interactive stories. You can use it to collaborate with other NG users to create Flash games here on NG. My main focus for the project was to make it compatible for the C++ target, meaning that it would work natively on Linux, Mac and Windows. Unfortunately, OpenFL (the framework I am using) does not have a TextField that supports all platforms, yet.

The good news is that the engine is pretty much complete, and I just need one day or two to complete the editor.

Over on YouTube, I will be creating video tutorials for those of you who want to make interactive stories. You can, and I actually recommend this, write your stories in a Word processing program first because my editor will not be supporting a grammar or spell checker any time soon, unless you know what you are doing.

I - myself - will be using this very program to also write my own interactive stories. I do also hope to put this engine/editor onto Desura and eventually Steam for more popularity (naturally).

The engine is completely free and open source. Let me know what you think of it.

woohoo kickstarter and steam stuff <3

Well editing the original post has purposes... like re-phrasing your problem, or adding new content to the OP, or correcting spelling mistakes, typos, etc. The list can go on.

That's why I was so frustrated about not being able to edit my posts, until now of course! Delete buttons still don't exist, though, which means I still need to contact NG support and ask them to delete any posts I don't want on NG anymore...

I suppose in a way, the lack of an edit button encouraged proof-reading.

On-going Script Series Posted September 24th, 2014 in Writing

Hello, fellow writers and readers alike. You have probably seen me around here before, but I have not really been doing much on my part - that being submitting some of my works here on Newgrounds for you all to enjoy reading.

As you may or may not be aware, I am writing a script series called A Pilgrim's Path, which is many things put into one. There is a good amount of comedy, spirituality, paranormal and supernatural stuff going on. So if you're into conspiracy theories, ancient knowledge and spiritual journeys, this series is certainly for you.

The series starts with the main protagonist Liam who buys tickets to Dharamsala for himself and his three friends and telling them about this at very short notice. When he eventually tells them, they get a bit angry... at least the girls anyway.

There is plenty of sexual innuendo and references, so unless you give a damn about homosexuality, I suggest not picking up this ebook as you will be disappointed. There will be heterosexuality as well, of course.

I would consider this ebook to be suitable for Teens, and of course adults. Children under the age of 13 should be cautioned as there are some references that may be disturbing for them.

If you are interested, you can download them from this page, a link to my website that contains all the episodes as they are currently.

It is not much as of yet; and I know many things can be improved. I would certainly love feedback from you. Please let me know of any issues you have, either with the website, or maybe you wish to discuss the story so far. Write your comments below and let me know what you think!

Also, for the purposes of this thread, here is episode one, and episode two, which have been uploaded to the NG Dumping Grounds for quick and easy access, if you prefer.

The eBooks are in PDF format, so should be easy to read from your desktop computer or laptop.

IS - Interactive Story

Ancient Domain
This is a video game/interactive story I am currently working on and hope to share it with everyone eventually. This will be a commercial work, however, so as a member of Newgrounds I feel generous enough to share with you some of the hidden parts of the video game's story.

For an introduction, I would like to introduce you to a creature known as the Skasorn.

The Skasorn are vicious, bloodthirsty creatures underneath the Atlantic ocean believed to have been one of the very first creatures that emerged from the rift between the tectonic plates. When the eastern shores of America and the western shores of Africa and Europe got struck by tsunamis in 2039, the Skasorn were the ones that then set foot and slaughtered millions of Humans along with the millions that were already suffering.

Eventually, the hundreds of thousands of Skasorn that raided these shores were reduced in number and they retreated back to the ocean, recovering their numbers at a much faster rate than human birth rate as a consequence of extreme birth control.

Historically, the Skasorn were the native Reptilia of an island in the middle of the Atlantic ocean known as Atlantis. When the human civilisation fell, and the island overthrown by the surrounding ocean, the Reptilia biologically merged with their human masters to form a monstrous specie. After three hundred years in deep slumber, the Skasorn started to mine underneath the rock-beds of the ocean and build a new kind of Atlantean civilisation.

The Skasorn repeated the same kind of technologies the Atlanteans taught, and succeeded in doing so. Their technologies now outgrow that of the current surface humans. Three thousand years later, in the year of 1938 in the midst of World War 2, the Skasorn secretly funded the Germans with technologies far in advance of their enemies and promised glory. When the Germans lost the war, the Skasorn went back to hiding - but some remained.

It was always difficult to tell between a Skasorn and a Human, since the Skasorn were able to biologically shapeshift to their Human counterparts. Nevertheless, it is believed that the Skasorn at the end of World War 2 helped the eventual US into the modern era, and eventually the Information era. What goes on Behind-the-Scenes is overlooked by most, it seems.

In 2042 when the Skasorn eventually left the shores, that was when scientists "mysteriously disappeared". The US were left questioned by the rest of the world while so-called "humans" were being brainwashed by their own parents. The American Oceanic Society, which was established four years earlier, initiated an ocean mission to investigate the vibrations that were occurring within the Atlantic Ocean, believed to be the rift that torn the world apart.

The Skasorn wait patiently to build up such a force to essentially commit genocide to the entirety of humanity. The Skasorn still have something else planned; and the location of the city of Atlantis is still unknown, even to the Skasorn.

Because I'm a horrible person and I am unable to stick to one given project at any given time, I have decided to discontinue this project. I don't know why I bother sometimes...

This anxiety needs to go.

Begs the question, is this a paid job?

To an extent it is, more info on payments can be found in the Collab thread, but I'm not copying and pasting the thread as that could be considered spam and all related threads deleted, which means having to write the entire lot out again. I am writing new threads in other places because it seems not many people take much notice on the Collab forums.

Basically, you will reserve $15 per minute of music/sound via the Newgrounds payment system. At some point, I may upload my game to my own website and collect donations, split among the members of the team. So yeah, in a way, you are being paid. In another way, it is considered a way to get noticed as well as improve on your skills, as that is what this game is mostly about - a collaborative effort more so than anything else, helping each other improve on our skills.

Artist or two required! Posted August 15th, 2014 in Art

Hello there, sitting comfortably? Good. If not, you may want to get a drink and your favourite food because this is going to be a mouthful.

I am writing a game called Only the Shadow, a thread to the collab forum can be found in my signature below for more information.

I am need for some artists who are willing to contribute and learn new things, in particular, you would be learning to draw some cartoon-style art as part of the game.

Below is information on what to expect:

Depending on what you draw/produce will depend on the format you will contribute and how it will be considered. You will need to refer to the “Art Guidelines” which sets out the style of art expected as well as the format, dimensions, and any other technical details. In order to ensure that conflict does not arise, we will be using Github’s Issue system to assign each other the tasks required to make the Art. This means you will need a Github account.

Your Art must have been submitted onto Newgrounds and constructive feedback received before it is considered. Large Artwork (Logos, Background Images etc.) are considered one piece and should be uploaded separately. Small Artwork (Thumbnails, Icons, etc.) are considered one piece when multiple images are put into one like a Tileset. More on this in the Guidelines found later. All copyrights remain your own, and your work will be licensed under the Creative Commons licence, with the exclusive implied rights for this Art to be displayed in the game for commercial purposes.

The below is information on the Exclusivity License:

If you are submitting content to Newgrounds (or any other platform for that matter) for critique and feedback, you MUST state in your description the following message:

“This [soundtrack/art/literary work/code] is under the exclusive license to publish this content, on behalf of Colour Multimedia Enterprises, for the purposes of critique and feedback. You may not download this content for the purposes of redistribution, resell or derivative arts unless otherwise notified in writing.”

As the original authors of these works, you are given the express permission under this exclusive license to resell and redistribute to any platform as long as the above condition is met. The reason this license exists is to ensure the integrity of the copyrights of all original authors throughout the game’s lifespan.

Basically what this means is, even if the game is taken down from Newgrounds, you still hold the rights to your own works with the express permission to redistribute and resell the work elsewhere. Breaking the condition set out above will only cause legal conflict, and I will not be personally responsible for your legal issues. If necessary, you can use a DMCA takedown notice, but I will not give you legal aid.

If you are interested in looking further into this project, please click on the "Only the Shadow - Collab Thread" link in my signature below. Then, after reading that, if you are still interested you can PM me telling me you are interested. I have not yet completed the plans of the game - this may take some time.

I am need for some musicians who are willing to contribute and learn new things, in particular, you would be learning to create psybient music (a cross between ambient and trance, I think). For a run-down of what I am expecting of you, here is a copy and paste from my Plan/Guidelines document revealing the details on musicians:

You will be working closely with the story writer’s as they will be the ones creating the atmosphere and the environments. You will need to mimic this closely in music/sound form in accordance with the game’s mechanics. You will find more information on the game’s mechanics in the plan later in this document.

You will mostly be working on ambient music, some chill out and electronic trance. If you are fluent working with these genres, then this role is for you.

Your music must be submitted to Newgrounds and have received feedback to be considered. All copyrights remain your own and you give the game exclusive rights to commercial use of the work.

Only the Shadow (Game) Posted August 13th, 2014 in Collaboration

This post was originally written in the 'Writing' forum, but it seems more appropriate to put it here. If any moderators stumbles across this one or the other, I demand the thread in the Writing forum is deleted over this one. Thanks!

Now for the copy and paste...

----
"Only the Shadow" will become an interactive story and collectible crystal game (CCG; see what I did there?) designed to promote meditation with crystals. This game is not a tutorial for meditation, it simply mimics the real-life properties of most known crystals and puts them into video game form. In addition, there will be four elements the player chooses (Fire, Earth, Water and Air) all with corresponding zodiac signs. Each element has global passive effects that a zodiac sign will benefit from, and each zodiac sign has its own crystal affinities as well as starting crystals (Birthstones).

The combat mechanics is designed to promote the idea that crystals have certain properties that you can use to its advantage during meditation. This is what mostly happens in this game.

You will choose a room or place to meditate, choose a crystal to meditate with (a secondary crystal's passive properties may also be used in conjunction with your primary crystal), and then use the crystal's abilities to improve concentration and positive energy while also thwarting negative energy. The aim of the video game is to gain as much score as possible within a given set of turns (the number of turns until the end of the battle) which can then be spent on player perks. Player's will also earn experience and crystal dust which can be used to collect more crystals.

Higher experience and higher your level will not only gain access to new rooms or places to meditate, but also unlocks new things in the zodiac sign's personal story. Each zodiac sign will have its own personal story which is told throughout the player's experience. Details on these can be found a little later.

Why am I saying all this? Because this is where you - the writers - can join in and show your potential. I want this game to be community-based, written by both learning and professional writers here on Newgrounds. A few things to point out:

1. This game is designed to allow writers of WNG, as well as writers elsewhere, to write stories based on a zodiac sign of their choice. This is specifically designed to give writers of WNG to come together to write pieces for this game, learn new writing tactics and more.

2. If you are a JavaScript programmer and/or have knowledge with jQuery, HTML and CSS, then that is a plus! If you want to contribute scripts for this game, you will need to give me a PM and I will link you to an eventual Github page where you will be able to contribute. Understanding Twine is a bonus, as that is the environment this interactive story will be written in.

3. If you are an Artist, even better! You will not only be given a licence to provide your artwork on NG, but you will be given the exclusive licence to sell that work on if you wish.

4. If you are a Music Producer, even better again! The same licencing terms are attached to this as it is for Artists!

Every contributor will be given a reserve of monetary gain depending on the amount you contribute.

Writers - For every A4 sized page of writing (no paragraphs and default line spacing in MS Word), you will reserve $10. If your work overlaps but does not entirely cover one A4 sized page, the gain is dependent on whether or not the content meets the half way point on the overlapping page. If the content of writing only overlaps by several lines, the overlapping page is not counted. Your work will also be carefully reviewed to ensure quality over quantity.

As a writer, you should focus your efforts on learning new tricks and contributing to the story. The monetary reward at the end is simply a "Thank You" for contributing to the project and taking the time and effort to do so. If you are writing total gibberish - writing that does not meet the guidelines for story writing (these guidelines will be written in an external document) - then you probably won't get any monetary rewards.

JavaScript or HTML/CSS Code - This is difficult to calculate due to the nature of programming, so what I will do is setup a document that describes all the behaviours and events within the game to be programmed in. These will be in the form of Issues on Github eventually. You will need to make yourself the contributor for that Issue and then work on that Issue. For each issue you complete, you will reserve $20, regardless of the amount of code there is. However, the code must be efficient AND working!

If your code does not work, the Issue will be flagged under "Bugs or Known Issues" which you will need to fix. You're the one writing the code, so you should know how to fix it. If you doubt your ability to code, simply don't bother. I will not tolerate slackers, especially when it comes to coding. Programming is high-skill job, hence the higher reserve amount, but that also means I want high-skilled workers willing to put an effort to the programming.

Artist - Also fairly difficult to calculate, but certainly not as difficult as coding. If you are drawing small pictures such as thumbnails, icons or the likes for things like Crystal Icons, the Title, etc. then you will reserve $15 for every three pieces of this.

If you draw large images, particularly images for the background of sizes 848x480 or higher (for full-sized website), you will reserve $15 for one piece.

Again, just like the rest of the guidelines, put in effort and you will be rewarded. At the same time, you will be met by constructive feedback (hopefully) so that you can improve on your work! As much as I would like to say otherwise, there has to be a specific style of art work that you are familiar working with - serious cartoon-style - as to ensure the consistency of the art throughout the game. Inconsistent art styles will only put people off, which is not what I want.

Finally, music - The most basic calculation: For every 1 minute of music you contribute (loop or not), you will reserve $15.

These values are NOT final and may change. I will not be reserving myself anything as I will be gaining most of the ad revenue, but money is NOT the focus of this game.

That's right - you heard me. MONEY IS NOT THE FOCUS OF THIS GAME.

Three words:

1. Contribution - Allowing people around the community of NG to contribute to one project and learn from others how to improve on their own work.
2. Learn - The ability to learn through a collaborative work is one of the best opportunities to have and it makes us all feel good when we all contribute to make an excellent video game that everyone enjoys playing.
3. Fun - Is it about money? Not necessarily; money is simply a reward for hard work. Is it about fun? Of course it is! Having fun and enjoying what you love doing while also doing the above is exactly what makes a collaborative work so good. It is the best feeling to have.

So... Can you contribute? Are you willing to learn? And do you want to have fun?

If you meet those three simple guidelines, don't hesitate to ask for further details or PM me if you are interested in joining.
A plan is yet to be written, but the basic concepts are drawn out in my head. I will also post a Blog on my personal NG profile where you will find all the contributing artists of all areas of the game sooner or later. Hopefully, I will get 2 for each role. Spread the news, let people know. The more people that know, and the more people that get involved, the more fun we will have!

This morning, I will start writing the basic guidelines and the plan for the video game, as well as setting up the Github page!

Thank you all for your feedback and questions in advance!

Now it's time for me to sleep! Tomorrow morning, I will start writing the basic guidelines and the plan for the video game, as well as setting up the Github page!

Thank you all for your feedback and questions in advance!

Response to: The not so creepypasta Posted August 7th, 2014 in Writing

I'm going to amend the first paragraph so you can get a glimpse of how many mistakes you made:
----- ORIGINAL ----
As years have passed,as many people know about him but now no longer. The long forgotten DEATH but not the death we knew but an old member of the creepypasta monster long before even Slenderman exist, he existed before even the creation of the universe sitting alone in the void of the universe, however he is very used to such environment. As year pass until he is engage in a battle against his greatest foe, Zalgo. He consider him to be the Grand Evil, the beginner of the evilness.Faithfully,he manage to defeat him and because he is immortal from both his soul and physically,he is therefore seal in the deepest part of the dark land, the heart of the dark land.Even he manage to do so,he as well injured badly to the point he longer can lift his own arm nor his finger. With his final spell,he encased himself in a frozen ice fill with Time Magic so no one can interrupt his recovery process.During the recovery process, he been thinking after he is fully recovered he probably should make a peace with Zalgo since he knew a universe, world, life, and even a mankind will exist.

----- AMENDED -----
It has been many years since an old member of the creepy pasta monster stood tall. This creature is rumoured to have existed before the creation of the universe, sitting alone in the void. Until one day, when he is entrenched into a battle of great evil against his greatest foe, Zalgo. He barely defeated him at the edge of the universe, where only darkness can be seen.

The creature, called [whatever do you call him?], sealed himself in an ice tomb where he will be able to recover. It was at this time when the creature looked up at the universal expanse and thought "I would rather like to make peace with Zalgo. I would like to be shown how to reach the universe and travel among the stars, where mankind could exist."

----------------------
Even the above isn't great because this so called "creepy pasta monster" has a terrible name. I'm pretty sure you can think of something better. Is he human? Is this creature actually some kind of monster made of pasta? Descriptions!

Describe to the reader and show them what is going on, and don't tell people "this is happening, that happened in the past, which didn't happen until this happened." That's almost what I am reading here, and it is an extremely poor way to start a story.

Also, don't make new threads for new sections of the story. Put it in the same thread for convenience.

"Show, don't tell." I want to know why I am reading this and what will keep me engaged. Telling me about some monster that barely survived a fight without describing the fight is barely going to keep me reading, and any other sane person on this planet.

I'm sorry, but if English is your first language (which I doubt it is) and you cannot take this harsh criticism, then clearly you should take some time by yourself and look back at what you wrote. We are here to help; but if you cannot take criticism, then we cannot help you improve.

Atlantean Teachings Posted August 6th, 2014 in Writing

Sick and tired of hearing about Atlantis? Well, tough! :)

I have just written a passage of part of my script called A Pilgrim's Path. This script is about four young Western adventurers that travel from Dharamsala (with Buddhist monks) to Tibet illegally. At some point in the story, Yuvon, one of the four adventurers, is taught about ancient writing on several pillars. The same writing appears on many pillars within McLeod Ganj as well as many others outside Tibetan Temples, and even a hidden cavernous monastery on the outskirts of the Himalayas mountain range.

The ancient Atlantean writing states thusly:

-----
Time itself is an illusion
No one enters, no one leaves
Manipulators of time can see time
But those who see it can only manipulate it when they break it

-----
The true meaning of this writing is as follows, an extract from a book Yuvon discovers, in an old Tibetan house in an abandoned town, called "Ancient Wonders of Mongolia", under section 236, "The Illusion of Time":

Reality in itself is an illusion. Time does not affect reality in any way, shape or form; time does not mend things; and time does not change things. Time is a concept developed by Humans as a means to measure reality in linear form. More simply, Humans can manipulate their own reality once they have broken it. To break reality, one must break time, or the spiritual barriers that prevent a Human from developing their inner selves. They are blockages in their own illusions.

These blockages are negative energies, influenced by the illusion of time. Time does not mend it, time does not change it, and time will never heal it. The only way to remove the blockages is to break it. Time can be manipulated once the Human finds a way to destroy the blockage, and only the individual can do it.

All problems come from within. Reality in itself is an illusion, but it can be manipulated by the mind to heal anything.

And that is why I will always say "ignorance will become the death of you." Or perhaps more importantly, "ignorance of YOURSELF will become the death of you."

It is also why I will always say "inner peace is the control of oneself."

If you are truly free, then you should ask yourself: "Am I in control of my emotions, my mind and myself? Can I manipulate my reality to understand situations, acknowledge them, and fulfil control of my mind? And most importantly, can I teach others what I have taught myself to seek this inner knowledge and inner peace, this feeling inside that can be considered true freedom?"

If you can answer all three of those questions with "Yes", then you have inner peace, and you have the power of the mind to control whatever emotions you possess at any given time, place and situation.

Remember, your perceptions are either your barriers or your aids. You can alter your perceptions whenever you like, and it is these perceptions that cause the fights we end up in all around the world.

The ultimate problem with humans is perception; perceiving things in such a manner that causes hatred, anger, violence, deceit, poverty and all other negative energies that invade our minds. The only way to cure such perceptions is to regain control of yourself, to have nothing influence your decision to start a fight, and find inner peace once again.

Global peace is possible once people are no longer ignorant of themselves and start seeking inner peace - seeking the control of themselves.

As ironic as this may sound, we are all fighting for control of ourselves, to relive the days of total tranquillity with nature once again. To live among society as one, to enjoy the company of nature and be able to develop ourselves. That is what we are all here to do - to learn through the conflicts we bring about to teach ourselves peace, patience and tolerance.

The rest of your life is up to you to decide. There is no point in living without an ambition or a dream, right?

Learning Java
Java is arguably the most commonly used language, but not used often on web environments due to its security issues. If you want to develop mobile applications, then Java is a great choice. Java is also a pretty good choice for desktop applications, although the GUI it comes with is ugly IMO. Nevertheless, if you want cross-platform applications, Java is the language for you.

http://www.homeandlearn.co.uk/java/java.html - Home and Learn also does Java tutorials, and would also recommend using since they also teach you how to use databases with Java. These people are so generous.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MZIkY55fS0 - While "a bit" outdated, these video tutorials still live up to the standards of Java programming, but ignore his mentioning that companies want Java for web - that is no longer true these days. Companies more or less prefer AJAX and jQuery these days, not Java or Flash (although Flash is still good for closed source applications like video games).

http://www.eclipse.org/ - The most popular Java IDE
http://netbeans.org/ - An alternative to Eclipse.

- For game development?
http://lwjgl.org/ - Lightweight Java Game Library, the same library Minecraft uses.
http://libgdx.badlogicgames.com/ - LibGDX is actually strangely similar to XNA, I've tried this before and is rather easy to get into.

Learning ActionScript
ActionScript is a strong programming language used in conjunction with Flash. Arguably the most popular web application option, unless you count AJAX, jQuery and JavaScript (or PHP) as web development (which it technically is but open source). Depending on whether or not you want your applications on the web to be open source, this may be a very good choice.

http://tv.adobe.com/show/actionscript-11-with-doug-winnie/ - A fantastic video tutorial series by an Adobe expert, completely free-of-charge.
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/actionscript/learning.html - If you prefer reading, these are also good learning resources for getting started.
http://www.upsidelearning.com/blog/index.php/2010/04/28/22-great-free-actionscript-3-0-learning-resources/ - A list of 22 learning resources for ActionScript 3... insane.

http://www.flashdevelop.org/ - Most of you probably don't want to pay upfront, so go ahead and download this IDE because it's one of the best alternatives to Flash Pro + Flash Builder
https://creative.adobe.com/products/creative-cloud - Everything is done via Creative Cloud now if you're interested in the official IDE for Flash and ActionScript development

- For game development?
Both of the above options as just as good for game development as they are for animations, but here are some applications specifically designed for game development in mind.
http://www.stencyl.com/ - A WYSIWYG Flash editor. I've tried it and it's strong points are its flexibility and also the choice to add custom code. My problem with it personally, particularly with scene editing, is that you cannot precisely place objects or size them. I think this may be an inherent problem with Flash itself and not necessarily the Stencyl IDE, since I remember being told by MintPaw that you cannot resize objects via the width and height properties... Can't remember the exact reason now.
https://www.scirra.com/construct2 - Construct 2 is similar to Stencyl, but is not Flash. Still, it offers the same kind of functionality so decided to put it here regardless.

Other Languages
For other languages, you can search yourself. I have listed above the most popular options available and would recommend you choose those over other languages. However, it is completely up to you to decide what you want to learn and develop.

It is completely possible to make games in other languages, such as Python, Ruby, JavaScript, VB.NET and many others.

If you have your own recommendations you want to contribute to this thread, then go ahead! It will help us all out, hopefully!

So what does all this code mean? C, unlike most languages, I would say is the first language you should learn as almost every other language derives from it and thus easier to learn once you've learned C. Unfortunately, C is not a great place to start on Windows platforms, since the libraries are not so great as they are on Unix-based systems, like Linux and Mac OS. Also, as many other experts out there will say, never use an IDE like Visual Studio, NetBeans or Eclipse to develop C programs for learning. Learning is about knowing what you're doing, and IDEs don't let you do that.

In short, the best way to learn is to get a Text editor of some sort and learn from there. If you are using Windows, you could always start learning C++, but if you have already learned higher-level languages like Visual Basic, C# or whatever it may be, C++ will very quickly alienate you due to its strange structure like it did with me.

The best way to learn any programming language is Trial and Error. If you are not willing to practice by experimenting, then there is no point in learning. You will learn much more programming through experimentation than you will following tutorials, not that I am saying tutorials are bad practice, they just don't provide the hands-on tools designed to allow you to learn faster than it otherwise would.

If you don't want to learn C, and would rather learn something else like C#, Java, Python or other like languages (which you shouldn't because it defeats the point of learning), then there is no stopping you. The reason I say you shouldn't is because C is the closest language you will get to human understandable code that executes almost directly to Binary, and thus one of the most efficient languages.

I'd say at least 80% of all programs on most Linux operating systems like Ubuntu are programmed mostly in C, simply because C is easier to understand than C++. Other factors are involved like efficiency, more support for the language - it is one of the most common languages after all.

Once you get to grips with C, you can start learning other languages. C I think is the best way to start learning as it is a very small language and very compact. C++, on the other hand, while an extension to C is arguably one of the toughest languages to learn. C is a good starting point, but developing with it expertly is not a good idea without years of training. This is because as C programs get larger, and the more you do with memory in C, the more likely you are to run into code errors and it will eventually become a nightmare to solve the problems.

Start in C, learn the basics, and then move onto whatever language you like. Ultimately, this comes down to what platform you want to develop on, and what programs you want to program.

Learning C++
So, you want to learn arguably the toughest language of all time? Good on you, because I certainly won't have the guts. I tried and gave up after a while. Still, there are huge amounts of libraries and resources online to get you started.

http://www.learncpp.com/ - possibly one of the best resources online for learning C++, and it even answered most of my questions despite the alienating nature of the language itself.
http://www.youtube.com/CodingMadeEasy - one of my favourite video tutorial resources for learning programming, in multiple languages. This person mostly has tutorials covered for C++ but does things for MonoGame in C#, some things in C and I think also does some Java.
http://www.gtk.org/ - a great toolkit (not IDE) for developing C++ applications with Graphical User Interfaces.
http://qt-project.org/ - an application framework similar to GTK+ for visual C++ applications, also comes with its own IDE.

I wouldn't recommend Visual C++ as a development tool unless you want to create CLR applications (Common Language Runtime), which is basically the global compiler for visual languages, also like C# and VB.NET. So unless you want to develop C++ apps specifically for Windows, I wouldn't use Visual Studio.

- For game development?
http://www.unrealengine.com/ - A good engine for C++ developers, although very complex and has a very high learning curve. Unless you know what you are doing, you probably want to use something else.
http://www.sfml-dev.org/ - An alternative to DirectX development which supports OpenGL as well as other open source technologies in developing games. CodingMadeEasy on youtube as resources on this.
http://www.libsdl.org/ - Another alternative to DirectX development; but I don't think this has as much support as SFML.
http://www.opengl-tutorial.org/ - If you want to go really hardcore, you can write your own engine on top of what OpenGL already offers with these tutorials, at least for the basics.

Learning C#
C# is one of the easiest languages to learn, down from Java, since it is very similar to Java. C# is almost as widely supported as Java, but can be constrained by the fact that official support for the language is Windows only, since it is Microsoft's product.

http://www.microsoftvirtualacademy.com/training-courses/c-fundamentals-for-absolute-beginners - great video tutorial series by Microsoft experts, but does require website registration. You do not technically need to be an academic student to register.
http://www.homeandlearn.co.uk/csharp/csharp.html - one of my favourite learning resources for C#, since it also explains databases and file manipulation which you rarely see in "basic" tutorials.
http://www.c-sharpcorner.com/beginners/ - easily one of the best resources for C# knowledge, includes information on Windows Forms, Windows Presentation Foundation and even Siverlight which is barely ever used (unless you want to work for Netflix); Silverlight does have its strengths like DRM-enabled technologies which Flash does not offer.

http://monodevelop.com/ - An alternative C# IDE for cross-platform support and uses GTK#. GTK# is of course an alternative to GTK+ for C# developers.
http://www.visualstudio.com/ - A great IDE and arguably one of the best on the market.

- For game development?

http://www.unity3d.com/ - or Unity, arguably the best IDE for game development on the market at the moment due to its flexible payment plans, as well as offering a free version of the IDE itself for both commercial and non-commercial purposes.
http://www.youtube.com/Brackeys - possibly one of the best video resources for learning the grips of the Unity IDE and developing games in both UnityScript (very similar to JavaScript) and C#.
http://www.monogame.com/ - MonoGame is an open source derivative to XNA. Possibly best developed with MonoDevelop, but can also be developed with Visual Studio. The problem with VS is the XNA support on Windows 8 and 8.1, since 8 and 8.1 no longer officially support XNA and requires a clever DirectX trick in the name of a "DirectX wrapper". Otherwise, you can install MonoGame on Windows for MonoDevelop instead.
http://www.youtube.com/CodingMadeEasy - has some good starting tutorials for MonoGame; you might as well learn some tutorials on XNA considering the framework is almost identical. Yes, I'm pointing you to the same video resources almost all the time. He knows EVERYTHING! I'm sorry! Okay, maybe not everything, but he has a lot of knowledge!

New to Programming? Posted August 4th, 2014 in Programming

I've seen a lot of topics on this forum about how to start programming, or where to start, people getting confused on what to do and where to go. I am going to write this topic solely for the purposes of helping people find the resources they require to get started with programming. I will also do a general overview of programming to start with, understanding classes, variables and common statements.

Basic Programming Principles
Apart from web languages such as JavaScript, HTML, CSS and other like languages, the most used type of language is a programming language.

Programming languages are languages that are designed specifically to translate user readable code to binary code. They are the fundamental parts of what makes a computer work properly. Without a programming language, no other language will run or execute. Think of a programming language like an engine of a car. Without the engine, the car simply won't run.

In technical terms, without software and code, a computer won't turn on, because it does not have the functionality or the software to piece together what to do on start-up. This is where a programming language becomes handy.

HTML, unlike other languages, is a Markup language. Markup languages are used to display web content. Primarily, there are used to execute programming languages easier. A markup language will not run without an engine - this engine is like Trident, which is a web technology designed to render and display web pages through the HTML markup specification. Trident, like Chromium and other web rendering technologies, are engines specifically designed for one purpose - to make it easier for a programming language to display content.

So how does a markup language run and how does it know what to execute? The engines we spoke about just now uses a Parsing engine, or a Parser. A Parser is kind of like a library of keywords, and it identifies each keyword and converts them into user-readable content. For example, most HTML code pages will render thusly:

The engine will launch the page through a new instance of a Parser (we will talk about instances later on) and the Parser will then read the contents of the code.
For each keyword within a greater than and less than symbol (the '<' and the '>', if that doesn't render because I won't know until this is posted, you should know what I mean), the Parser will generate a new instance of the display content related to that keyword followed by the properties of that content, such as background colour and whether or not to display borders.
The engine will return the content back to the web browser. These engines can be developed in many languages, but the most common is C++.

And last but not least, is a scripting language. Like JavaScript and Lua, a scripting language is designed to extend functionality or content for an already developed application; although this is slightly different in terms of JavaScript. Scripting languages, unlike Markup languages, do not require an engine, but do require at least a Parser and the library which can be integrated into the final application.

In Lua, for example, if you created an application in C++ for Windows, and you want people to extend it and add "modifications", you would assign your classes and events that you want registered in Lua. Basically what this means is that when the Lua scripts are handled by the Parser, the parser will find the registered events or classes in your application and execute them accordingly. Scripting languages are quite difficult to understand if you are new to programming, so unless you know technical jargon there is no point in me trying to explain. I am sure there are better examples out there as well.

Want to Program?
So you want to get into programming and you don't know where to start? The best way to start is to understand the basic logical building blocks of what makes a programming language a language in first place. You need to understand: classes, variables and functions.

Let's get started by explaining classes. All programming languages will start with a class that is executed by the compiler at runtime. Firstly, the compiler will find the "Main.c" if working in C, "Main.cpp" if working in C++, or "Program.cs" if working in C#. Other languages may differ. It is crucial these files exist in your program when you compile, otherwise the compiler will start throwing errors at you. Some compilers may give you the option to choose your starting object and function, like Visual Studio's compilers.

Wait, what's a compiler? A compiler is simply another application that parses, interprets, analyses and executes source code. Without a compiler, a programming language won't function. Wait, so you need a program to run a program? Yes and no. Binary applications, applications that are written purely in Binary code, don't actually need another program, but they do need an interpreter. In short, a computer needs to interpret on and off switches (0s and 1s) to execute logic gates, boolean expressions among other things. This kind of discussion can be saved though, because I can go on for hours on how a computer works from the ground up.

For the purposes of this short tutorial, I will be using the C programming language since that is the most commonly used.

class Main
{
int i; //this is a variable, and this is also a comment. Comments are not interpreted by the compiler
        /*
Alternatively, you can use a comment block like so. In the example code before, you can execute a function.
        */
        int Main(string args[]) {
              return i; /*
When a function is identified with a data type (like int, which is shorthand for integer - a whole number), the function must return a value that has the same data type.
You cannot return a uint on a function defined as an int, even when they are both whole numbers.
              */
        }
/*You can use the keyword 'void' to tell the compiler to return 'null' when this function is executed.
All functions need to return a value, even if you do not explicitly call it, like in the previous function.
What the compiler notices in the below example is an implied conversion. Depending on the compiler
will depend on whether or not you can be lazy and have the compiler automatically convert values
to other values, this is implied conversion. Telling the compiler to convert one value to another is through
code is explicit conversion. VB.NET is infamous for its implied nature of converting values to other values,
or data types. The below example is not supported in C version 9, use 'void otherFunction(void)' to accept
no arguments. Arguments, or parameters, are basically references to variables declared when the function
is opened, and the references can only be used within the function.
        */
        void otherFunction() {}

//In C, you can instantiate classes into a variable, so let's take the following examples.
        public class MyClass {}

        MyClass myVar;

        /*
Basically, what we are doing above is assigning the 'myVar' with the data class 'MyClass'. myVar will
access the contents of this class under its new name and will be able to access exclusive methods and
variables. Exclusive variables and properties, or types with the 'public' keyword in front of it, are declared
        as belonging to the class.
        */
}

Thanks for the critique :) I must admit it definitely is not my best work by any stretch of the imagination. So maybe I should just get rid of it entirely and demand this thread be deleted until one day we get a forum feature that allows users to delete their own threads.

Here is my criticism of NG forums: No delete function, no edit function, no un/subscribe function for emails... This lack of functionality makes me want to not use these forums in all honesty.

Despite that, I would have gone back and edited MANY things, and even started the story in a much better form (because I would have done) since after proof-reading it myself I felt stupid to have even posted it. Yes, my grammar still needs work as it always will do. The strange this is, my father is an author and I am no where near his calibre of writing. Maybe I will be one day, but at the moment I lack the incentive to pick up a book and start reading it. It will, of course, give me a much better understanding of grammar and a better way of introducing a story.

This story I am going to abandon for this reason.

However, there is a better story here: http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1371605

Rise of the People Posted August 3rd, 2014 in Writing

This is going to be a political fictional story in the style of non-fiction (no dialogue) that represents the Rise of the People, hence the name of the story. This stories' setting is based on the global uprising against the autocratic ideologies we have been blinded by for centuries, and how The People manage to overcome the evil autocratic leaders from destroying not only the civilisations that live on this planet, but also the planet itself!

This is highly political and may contain references to conspiracy theories, ancient knowledge, religion, political agendas, Internet surveillance and ideologies.

Here we go...
---------
**CHAPTER 1: THE AQUELENE REPUBLIC**
For the past few decades, Israel and its allies have been pressing onto the Middle Eastern countries and erupting them into civil wars through their aggressive spying tactics and overthrowing the leadership within. It was 2001 when we saw the American Trade Centre get erupted to flames, also known as the 9/11 attacks. But let's not cry about that, let's cry about the irony of America's petty politics that caused the Gaza strip to erupt into all-out war after George Bush's ill treatment for the failure to come up with reasonable diplomatic justices on the people behind the 9/11 attacks.

Because of this, Israel has been a prime target for Middle Eastern countries and gets consistently bombarded with deceit and lies that spread throughout Jewish politics and media. True, the media may be nothing to do with what it is really happening behind-the-scenes, but for all the propaganda that is spread, there is no denying that Jews are doing the very same thing that Hitler did to them to other middle-eastern countries.

It goes without saying that throughout history, Israel and its native Jewish counterparts have been bullied left, right and centre. It is time to let go of the past and teach the Jews that not only what they are doing to this world is wrong, but to teach them love, peace and kindness. As the Dalai Lama once said, "Ignorance is the cause of all suffering. People inflict pain on others in the selfish pursuit of their own happiness or satisfaction."

Come to me, child, for this is the day we seek global peace. We all know how to do it, we all know how to obtain it - it is the willingness and courage to teach patience and tolerance with the oppressed, overcome the oppression, and regain control of our minds to defeat the mind controllers - otherwise known as our leaders.

It is now 2019, and the diplomatic overhaul between Russia and the US is coming to an end with the Rise of the People. Just two years ago, the People of America overthrown President Ryan and the Congress. The NRA gun lobbyist movement was also overthrown and the autocratic Nazi-driven right-wing extremist party, the Tea Party, was abolished and liquidised. The remaining Tea Party survivors during a three year civil war in Massachusetts led to the defeat of the Republican-held House, and so the survivors fled to Israel to rebuild what they felt was left of their ideology.

The extremism that led to almost the brink of extinction for oil companies, who failed to make peace and deal with the inevitable and swift fuel advancements between vehicle manufacturers, came to a close as those leaders started to cringe at the weight and power behind the People.

Too long has the leaders of this world been lazily tapping away behind computer screens attempting to censor the weight of knowledge and the power the People used to overcome this. Too long has these Governments been spying on their own people just for a little satisfaction from their ignorance. No longer are the People ignorant of government actions, no more do the People realise their mistake.

This inevitable collapse of the American economy and its government has come at a huge price to pay, and now the American people look towards Britain, the country who invaded them in the 18th century. Prime Minister, Lord and Ambassador of the Judiciary Command and Armed Forces, respectively, George Hamilton, gave America a new name. The People of America would be wise enough to understand this decision. America has been given a bad name and a bad image, now it is time to change.

The Aqualene Republic was the new name. New orders were put in place: the Natural Rights Order and the Civil Rights Order. The "Government" was rebuilt and a new flag was given to their newly found name (see image). The central part of the image represented an impenetrable shield and a Constitution that could never be abused. The eight blue dots around this image represented the eight watchers - or the eight public entities that would share an oversight on government operations. These are, in no particular order:

1. Community of Contributions - Employment, Work and Pensions authority
2. The Natural Preserve - Wildlife and Environment authority
3. Judiciary Command - Courts and Judges
4. Parliament - Replaces the Congress
5. United Nations - Will always be there as an International body
6. Food and Health Organisation - Speaks for itself
7. National Security Agency - A lot of people seem to think it's a good idea to keep this (probably don't blame them considering the civil war of Massachusetts)
8. Spiritual Association - Not really an organisation, more of a group of people who decided to found an association of spiritual practices. The rest of the story will revolve around this entity and their reactions on the other entities.

The world population currently stands at 7.6 billion at this year, and leaders are still finding ways to reduce this unsustainable number. As the population grows, the economy cripples slowly but surely, with people around the world taking bites out of what is left of the economy until there is nothing left of it. Leaders, instead of acknowledging total defeat of the species and allowing Mother Nature to kill most of us (for the purposes of natural balance), turn a blind eye and pharmaceuticals and banks convince them with billions of dollars in profits to exploit the ignorant and sell drugs that would essentially overthrow Mother Nature's ability to control and sustain life.

It is absolutely essential for Mother Nature to control and sustain life, and yet even the People are still ignorant of their consumptions and purchase drugs fuelling the ill leaders and allowing further production of medication that ironically keeps the unsustainable population high.

"Ignorance will become the death of you," as I like to say. This is the start of a new era for the American people. What could possibly happen? The Spiritual Association are looking at this world with several blinks of the eye and observes Human actions carefully, extracting and analysing all they can to acknowledge our mistakes and come up with reasonable and wise conclusions to overcome our inevitable collapse. This one organisation is solely kept behind mystery and grows without doubt to ensure the safety of Human kind.

Some people say its essential we die to continue surviving. Others say, particularly pro-life activists, say killing is wrong regardless of the intent. The ironic thing here is that regardless of what happens, everyone lives and everyone dies. There is no such thing as a fair life, and nature can be cruel. Cruel mostly for all the right reasons - nature will do all it can in its power to sustain all life on this planet, and it is up to us to acknowledge its tremendous power and reign across the world.

It is against Universal Law to kill for no reason, but it is okay to kill for survival. With Human Law, humans have made themselves responsible for their ill actions and takes away what nature otherwise does to sustain life. Human Law is almost a replacement for Universal Law; which is a violation of it in and of itself. Most Humans do not realise how much damage they do to themselves as a consequence of the ignorance they have on themselves.

Only time will tell, when the day matters, and all that matters come to an end, what we have truly been fighting for has been nothing more than control of ourselves.

a) You can pretty much call me by my username - brutalexcess. Alternatively, you may take a formal approach and call me Luke, if you wish.
b) I pretty much like writing anything.
c) The first thing I have ever written that I want to publish at a later date in life is the commercial video game series (original work) called The Spiritual Transition(TM), which will consist of a lot of sub-stories in many formats - a script designed for the video game itself; a lore book which consists of the story that video game resides and what world; a script for an animated movie based on the video game and the lore; and if necessary, many guides and reports on the video game's universe and the story so far.

My current work, A Pilgrim's Path, currently has one episode written, and I am currently practicing my portrait drawing in pencil. I recently purchased an art set and a sketch pad to do drawings for a storyboard so that I may convert it into a movie and hopefully present it on NG. A Pilgrim's Path will also be a commercial work (eventually).

I have also written (mostly) a script based on a video game series called Power of the Mind, but decided against developing the game as I did not feel comfortable developing it at my current C# expertise. Eventually, I just want to design the worlds, stories and events that occur in these video games rather than do the development - it seems to be more my kind of thing.
d) My greatest strength is definitely creativity. From what you have seen above, I am pretty sure you can gather I am creative and very enthusiastic about my projects. My weakness is unfortunately my lack of concentration and being able to stick to one project at any given time. I think this was inherited from my father coupled by my addiction to caffeine, both playing a part in my failure to complete projects; consequently, I lack self-motivation and my caffeine addictions is somewhat the motivator. Eventually, I want to design my video games and present them to the world, unfortunately I have a lot to work on!

Good luck to everyone else wishing to join this club. I feel confident myself, even if I appear strange at times, which I am pretty sure everyone can be. Grammar I know for a fact is not my greatest strength either, but I learn new things to improve it. Gradually, I will pursue this and hopefully find a career in story design and video game script writing, as I enjoy writing and designing worlds and stories - particularly RPG worlds!

Full Description (I did not think the Code thing would do that, which is annoying but here it is again for ease of reading):
--------

Liam is so strange, he will pick up the phone and book a 3-month holiday to Dharamsala and realise he spent all his money for the flights alone. He invites his friend’s last minute, and before they get a chance to announce their opinions, they’re on the flight to become spiritualists among Buddhists. Everything is rather new to them, and they will journey as pilgrims into Tibet illegally to understand what it is like living the Buddhist life, without knowing what is ahead of them. Not only does the ancient lore of the world sneak behind them, plenty of synchronicities can be found as they embark on the most exciting journey of their lives.

Liam, Sarah, Yuvon and Richard are four young Westerns confused, mad and excited for their travel into the mountains. What will lurk within the mists of the unknown?

A Pilgrim's Path Posted July 28th, 2014 in Writing

Hello, NG! I have written one episode for what may become a series much like a TV show, in the format of 25-30 minute episodes and have multiple series. I am aiming for two, depending on how the main story progresses. If the main story progresses on into further series, then I will write more scripts! In a way, I suppose I am the producer and director of this series, as well as the script-writer and storyboard artist. What am I looking for?

I need two or three more talented voices to enter into this series. Depending on the initial feedback on the project will depend on whether or not I continue the series. Of course, no one does anything for free, so I don't want to waste your time. Of course, there is a problem with this! I barely have any financial resources, so treat this opportunity as more of a voluntary position. If people enjoy watching the show and want more, then I will monetise the show on here and other networks (to be decided) - you will get a share of the advert/payment revenues. I may even sell the series on my website as an on-going series on a Pay-What-You-Want model - but again, to be decided.

I think the best thing to share with you is what this series is about. Here is a short description of the series and what to expect:

Liam is so strange, he will pick up the phone and book a 3-month holiday to Dharamsala and realise he spent all his money for the flights alone. He invites his friend’s last minute, and before they get a chance to announce their opinions, they’re on the flight to become spiritualists among Buddhists. I am not an expert at grammar! But I am getting there - slowly. If you want to read up on the script, you can find a copy on my public Dropbox link here.

If you want more info, interested in the position and willing to volunteer for the first episode, then let me know below or PM me. Preferably, if you are a voice actor, a good microphone with either good noise cancellation or software that can remove it (post-edit) without affecting the overall voice quality is essential. I will be drawing a storyboard for the first few scenes and will post the results here at some point, but I have not even started that bit yet! If you want to get involved in drawing the storyboard, then you should have a good attention to detail and be able to draw with pencil on paper.

The storyboard is being drawn in pencil, scanned onto a computer, and then redrawn using a graphics editor to make it feel more "anime" - this is NOT an Anime, but will be in the style of a cross between Manga and Anime (I love Japanese culture!)

Someone who knows fluent Tibetan would be very nice, indeed! Otherwise, I will simply leave that out of the voice acting.

Thanks for any interest you hold in this project!

Response to: No Scrollbars in iFrame Posted July 21st, 2014 in Programming

Okay...

So I have tried multiple solutions...

I have attempted put in

overflow-y:scroll;

into the body tag of the CSS and it won't work to try and force the scrollbar on. I've done the same for the written content which is under the class "passages" and that won't work either. I tried it with an iframe, but iframe's just fail miserably when rendering.

Is it possible to turn on scrolling without this stupid hard-coded nonsense that NG decided to implement into the embedded HTML5 controller?

No Scrollbars in iFrame Posted July 20th, 2014 in Programming

I am making an interactive story using Twine and HTML5 and JavaScript with the iframe capabilities that Newgrounds comes with. Before I decided to write my story any further, I thought it may be best to test how NG renders the game onto the website and how the iframe handles it.

It's good, but unfortunately I believe the iframe has its scrollbars defaulted to "off", which is hard-coded into the NG websites code. This I find to be extremely frustrating. I understand why it is implemented, because you don't expect HTML5 games to require scrollbars. Well, in an interactive story, you do. As far as I am concerned, I would have to implement my own scrollbars within the game as a way around this problem.

Unfortunately, I do not have amazing HTML5 experience, so if anyone could reference me to a temporary solution or have the code pasted here would be amazing. For the purposes of demonstration, and I know that this is advertising (but the only way to demonstrate the lack of scrollbars), here is a link to the screenshot where it fails miserably.

Response to: What's your stance on Gay Marriage Posted July 1st, 2014 in Politics

However, though. While laws are of course different in the US when it comes to property ownership, in the UK there really is no point in a marriage anymore, mostly for equal rights. If a person who has spent a great deal of time with their partner in the same household as each other, they will have the same rights as a married couple in the sense that the couple will still have 50% of the household, even if they separate - it applies to both married and non-married couples. This is mostly otherwise because it would be unfair for the other person who is not the legal owner of the property to have been paying their fair share of the property and then having to leave because of a relationship dispute.

So, consequently, in my opinion, why the hell would you want to spend £500 (or whatever the price maybe in your country) on a marriage when you can use that money wisely for survival, for example? I swear that according to recent statistics, divorce is higher than marriage... I wonder why. Money, no doubt.

Would be nice wouldn't it? The problem is religion - it gets in the way. And unfortunately marriage is traditionally a religious service owned by the Church - and you guessed it - it has a lot of power. Of course, nowadays you can get married without a Church, depending on which country you live in (I'm in the UK and my parent and step-father didn't get married in a Church). Not sure what the situation is in America.

However, denying a persons' rights like Christianity and Muslims do is stupid. I'm not saying that's every single last member of the religion, but mostly those who just want to take control of everything, such as their leaders. If we want freedom of speech and peace, we shouldn't have to vote for anyone.

Yeah, because an NSA employee is going to be hired to collect information from a website about games, audio and art; and make up loads of information about a Market Research project, know the exact college and the exact course along with what the course offers in the United Kingdom, because clearly the NSA knows that data. They also know how to use the Internet to collect tonnes of information, like this very post, the posts that have been posted into this thread.

Don't you think it's rather unusual to have an NSA employee be asked to collect information based on a website called surveymonkey.com, when they probably have tonnes of money fueled by oil companies, pharmaceuticals and banks to invest in a supercomputer that can collect even more data about user activity across the entire Internet?

Are you sure an NSA employee would be asked to collect data via surveys when they have more powerful means to do so?

What would security have to do with anything? Just curious

The Market Research project's title is "Security and its effects on Business and Communication"

The idea is to explain to the reader how security affects business and communication by answering the following questions:

1. After the discovery of computers and the Internet, how has legislation taken effect on the use of Internet communication?
2. Is electronic surveillance actually legal?
3. What the right to privacy is actually defined as in Human Rights.
4. How has surveillance affected business communication?
5. When is surveillance reasonable enough to justify its existence?

Those are the questions I need to answer for my project.

Giving long response doesnt really help.

"What are you majoring in?"

Now that I think about it, I think I understand your question. I'm British, so the question "What are you qualifying in?" is a more understandable question, and technically I had already answered that in the OP.

However, I will mention again. I am attempting to qualify in a vocational degree (or a Level 5 in my case) in Business (that is literally the name of the course, just Business - it covers everything from law, finance, communication, behaviour which involves both the behaviour of individual's and how they are encouraged to get on with work with theories such as Maslow's pyramid, marketing and market research (which is the topic I'm currently on) and business strategy) and hope to aim for Triple Distinction (Triple Distinction Star is actually possible, but actually requires me to get a Distinction in every single unit, and that is not possible for me now).

I'm actually behind on coursework, surprisingly, and behind on this very coursework - that being Market Research - because I have been unable to get adequate amounts of respondents for my survey which is required to complete this work! If I don't get at least 10 respondents by Wednesday, which is why I am sharing this thing as much as possible right now, I will be officially behind on coursework and I may not even get a presentation together to share a good amount of results to get me the grade I actually want in this course.

I need results, badly, no matter how much, 10 at the VERY least. If I'm generous enough, I may provide a link to my finished document later on in this thread as proof that I did collect these results for legitimate reasons. And I think I will because this is valuable information, not just for the course but for everyone. Security is a very top issue at the moment, and this report is not only value to the public, it's value to governments as well believe or not.

Again, it is entirely your choice whether or not you wish to put 5 minutes of your time into answering 8 required questions, most of which you can answer "N/A" or "Neutral" respectively, but that just defeats the point of the survey if people do that consistently and would in fact cause inaccuracy in the results. So some honesty is required to ensure that at least 99% of these results are accurate. :)

I know this sounds like a lot to take in but I am so interested in the security side of things, and I am one of the people who is against Internet Surveillance and I want to help to improve the legal situation, but I can't do that without other people's help.

One more time, though. Just to be on the safe side. This is entirely voluntary, you do not need to fill in this survey and I do not intend in forcing you to do so, but it would be nice if people could do so to help me. If you don't, then fair enough.

I already took the survey, and it seems just weird that a College would be doing this type of stuff. What are you majoring in? If you don't mind me asking.

lol. Almost every degree/vocational degree has a last year Market Research or Personal Project that will require research or study in some way, shape or form. This has been done for decades, especially surveys! Yes, of course, traditionally it was done by giving out flyers. But the Internet is here for a reason so I might as well use it to my advantage, otherwise I am leaving out quite possibly the most used medium to date, which defeats the point of a Market Research project if I may be honest.
