Folks.
Many of you know me as that guy who cares about politics, and knows it in and out. I today present to you a cautious exit from the political scene. Brett Jensen, that guy with the political talk show, is bowing out from this arena.
Today, both Obama and McCain allowed themselves to fully display the height of their compromise. They allowed the most thoughtless, snotty, and pious contingent of America to judge them. They bared their most personal tragedies to America's finger-wagging slime. I hereby give up on both candidates.
Rick Warren. Those two words should be enough, but I have bad taste, so let me continue. This tasteless exploiter of gullible idiots decided that HIS was the forum for national politics to play out. A church, guys. Our nation's course should be debated in the most myopic place possible?
Selling books about Jesus, and getting rich off Jesus isn't enough. He invited the two men vying for our nation's helm to his awful den, and both of them accepted. The candidates aren't after your hearts. They aren't after your minds. They aren't even after your wallets. They'll just use all three of these things to get to that most important of American currency: your vote.
Exploited tonight at Rick Warren's bastardization of belief was the American spirit. In the typical masochistic Christian way, they nailed up the struggles of these two worthy men on the cross.
The awfulness of Christians is not new to me, and it isn't what I complain about. I complain that the two men set to be our President were happy to let this tragedy happen for their own gain. Obama used drugs, and McCain got a divorce. Congrats. I've done both of those things, and I'm not letting my missteps be used for my gain. They are my shame. Not so for the shameless hacks who want to be President. Let's use these things for your gain through pious misery via the vehicle of religion.
The greatness of America was not built on sniveling bastards like McCain, Obama, or Warren. I'm ashamed deeply of all of them. A military hero, a diverse agent of change, and a man of god should not be so cowardly.
Nothing good will come of this election. We'll merely pick a new goat to either adorn or scorn, depending on what happens... and yell at others that he was put there.
I'm ashamed and shocked at myself for typing this... but after watching our prospective leaders parade around tonight for the Christian sludge of this nation... I'm seriously thinking about not voting.
I'm out. Politics is the dirtiest business I know.
