The Flash may suck on NY, but I like that the creator has an interesting forum for things he wants to say - I dig the 'concept' a lot...if not the actual work itself. And I'm sure more than a few people feel the same about Saints ;)

Thanks again for the comments guys - spread the good word, and storm those registers this weekend!

To the fellow who asked about payment from a studio distributor, it works like this:

- they offer an up front royalty fee that is used 'against' later sales - ie, they might give you 100K, but that gets subtracted from any profits later.
- chances are, you use most of your royalty paying off contractors, project debts, deferral salaries, etc, just like we did when folks worked for free for us helping to make the original DVD.
- then, once the DVD comes to stores, the distributor (in our case, FOX) gets to keep all the revenues until they 'break even' on the royalties, the packaging and production costs, the marketing plan, etc...which usually ends up being around 500K (always over inflated) for a small project like this.

So...yeah, unless this sells really well, we won't see a cent. Even if we did? It'd go right into our next project. The upside is that we signed a deal with a major distributor, which bodes well for future project investment.

Speaking of...did someone ask about some interactive fun???

Thanks guys - the kind words are appreciated...and a LOT has changed since the original version went online 5 years ago.

And yeah - IGN 'reviewed' it...he raved about the set itself, but seemed to have a personal beef with me. I think Fox forced him to watch the whole thing in a day, and he was pissed. Meanwhile, the guy over at UGO frickin' raved and gave us straight A's. You never know with these damn critics LOL

Hey everybody - with all the recent Comicon craziness (when Tom's your booth neighbor, you're guaranteed a wacky time!), as well as the insanity surrounding the Broken Saints DVD launch, I haven't had time to drop by as regularly. Imagine my shock at seeing a huge honkin' banner on the front page on NG! That's almost as @#$%ed up as spotting our stuff on the shelves at Walmart, man...seriously.

Ok - maybe I'm getting a little ahead of myself here. Rewind. For those who weren't around for the infamous two months of daily uploads back in early 2005 (hey, the series had 57 parts...don't shoot the messenger!), my name is Brooke, and I'm the creator of the animated comic series Broken Saints. Me and my partners in crime (artist Andrew West and Flash geek Ian Kirby) had a pretty good thing going over at the BS site, but it wasn't until we posted all of our stuff on Newgrounds that things really started rolling. I don't think we can ever thank Tom and the NG crew enough for their kindness, support, and cyber-hospitality...but more importantly, we've never officially thanked the thousands of YOU that have rallied around the series and openly shared your thoughts, kind words, and creative suggestions! (yes...even the haters too :) ).

People like you inspired us to work our asses off and take 3 years (and 10+ hrs!) of Flash and remaster the entire thing the right way. Better art. Better pacing. Better effects. And killer sound with the most-asked for feature from Newgrounds fans - VOICE. You guys had an effect on our work, and it was your collective voice that inspired people like FOX Home Video to take a risk and release a 4-disc Flash series to the mainstream. We're still in shock. It still doesn't seem real. But part of me hopes that this is the start of something big. Not just for us...but for NG too. And for indy creators everywhere.

If Saints does well in stores, then major studio distributors will start turning their eyes here. And they'll find a treasure trove of talent, and an infinite supply of creativity. Do you have a favorite NG series that demands attention? Hell...I know I'd cheer if work like Salad Fingers, Neurotically Yours, or There She Is got the mainstream spotlight. These - and so MANY more - deserve it!

So all we can ask is that you rally together for Broken Saints one last time at stores and rental shops everywhere. We don't see a cent, gang - that's not how the video biz rolls, sadly - but it might give us the chance to do more work in a bigger way, and also open the floodgates for your favorite Flash freaks here to get their stuff on screens everywhere. And in the end, that's what matters the most, right? We gotta give this incredible place - and the people who built it - its just rewards!

Peace and Respect...and keep on rockin' in the free world. BB

Love it or hate it, we're finally done :)

Big thanks to everyone who took the time to scope and review chapters...even the negative comments were refreshing, as people tend to be too nice over at our site lol

Seriously...our main hope here was only ever to share the series with more people. To know that a couple o' thousand of you have seen the series - even if it pisses you off - makes it feel all worthwhile. Yes...there's mainly tweens and very little animation...and YES...there are no voiceovers in the Flash version, only on the DVD...but the most important thing to us was getting the story out there. We truly hope it touched some of you in a positive way...and at least inspired others to be more creative and blow us out of the water.

Seriously...if our simple little thing can get some major attention, then half the artists on here should be zillionaires by now! Just remember...in the end, it all comes down to storytelling. As long as you have something to really SAY underneath the blood and explosions and dirty jokes, then your stuff will live a long and happy life.

Again...thanks for putting up with us the past few months...and a big thanks to Tom and Wade for all their support too.

Peace, respect...and word is bond.

Wow...thanks so much MM for the truly kind words.

As I've said a thousand times, we don't expect everyone to love Broken Saints - not even a MAJORITY of people - but we're definitely proud of what we've been able to share with folks for the past 4 years - be it the free Flash or the more animated/professional/voiced DVD version.

There are only two parts left to be posted on NG - the series climax and the Epilogue. Most likely we'll space them out and do one at the end of this week and one at the end of next...after that, no more worries about us cluttering the portal or taking awards away from anyone - because that was NEVER OUR INTENTION.

We just wanted to share a positive (and some say powerful) story with the legions of Newgrounders out there. Hopefully it's been able to inspire some of you for the better.

Much appreciation and respect...and keep on rockin' in the free world.

It's meant to have it's own style...though we did totally rehaul the animation for more layers and new art on the DVD. At the same time, it still retains its comic/storybook feel. But the effects and sounds and voices really make it dynamic...it's the sound mix we're most proud of.

Is the series for everybody? Hell no. Is it for most folks on NG? Most assuredly not.

But we know there's a nice niche of you out there that dig the work and the style and the deeper themes.

Here's hoping you enjoy the last 3 parts going live this week...some pretty intense stuff.

Cheers.

New art, effects, celeb voices, 5.1 Dolby, 4 hours of 'how to' featurettes, and improved timing make it worth it.

sure...we're proud...but we worked our asses off on it! :)

It'll be in retail this summer...also at some cons and fests. For now, you can get it at www.brokensaints.com - or at least see the new trailer lol

Nope...Joshman's an idiot. So 'winning' is all about perspective :)

Noobs? We've been doing this for 4 years.

Artwork? ALL original, dingleberry. Pull your head out and take another look.

Only tweens? That's the STYLE. Sorry we don't have more exploding asses to appeal to you with.

Looks good? You should see the NEW art over at www.brokensaints.com - now THAT is good.

Storyline? If you watched more than 5 minutes, you'd see that this is like NO OTHER STORY, save for a few small nods to Wizard of Oz, Lord of the Rings, and Revelations in the Bible.

Suck on that, slappy.

Then stop your bitching and make a parody or something.;

You're all so talented - WAY better animators than we'd EVER be - ...but until you have something to say, you're just spinning your wheels.

Story will ALWAYS rule over animation...over effects...over graphics...period.

No...don't be daunted, mate.

The online version of the series was completed last July for our hardcore audience, and then we began work on the DVD full-time for the past year.

We just finished that, so we wanted to share the original series with people who may not have had a chance to see it - and NG is probably the best Flash hub ever, and Tom has been super cool from the beginning when we first posted chapters 3 years ago.

Just figured it was time to be less 'possessive' of the series over at brokensaints.com - it was always made to share with as many like-minded folks as possible.

And yeah...we know that the majority of ng'ers prefer guns and blood and boobies...that's ok...it just feels good when one or two people are jazzed about it still and get in touch with us - makes it feel totally worthwhile after doing this for so long!

Don't worry - it'll be done at Chapter 24 - the series finally stops after 12 hours LOL

Peace

To each his own...at the very least, check out 18 Act 3 later this week for a pretty cool fight scene.

If that doesn't get the attention of the NG hordes, I don't know what will (uhh...other than talking asses and cum-smeared bitmaps of Brittany Spears....oh...and blood...don't forget the blood)
