The most important drill? What??? To who? I've never even heard of this shit. It sounds like this generation's response to the threat of school massacres in a vein similar to the nuclear warfare school drills of the past. What the fuck? Disturbed teens and young adults are so prevalent that they actually teach this type of shit AND consider it wholly important? Fire drills are a no-brainer because there's all sorts of flammable/combustible stuff in the world that we work with and around daily. It's a danger obvious-enough to warrant protective training. But are there really THAT MANY combustible minds out there?
You'ld be surprised how many disturbed people there are. At any given moment their brains might snap and all hell breaks loose for them.
I'm not even going to get into policy. If you think hiding under a desk and doing nothing is a good way to protect yourself from someone WITH a firearm and WITHOUT a conscience then you're as good as dead. As for yourself though, you must be kinda stupid to actually believe that all those victims, all of them, were taught to not fight back. Blaming the victim is kind of a twat move, you feel me?
True, but how many would be willing to charge a man with a gun? NONE. People aren't stupid. If they see a guy with a gun, 9 times out of ten they will duck down and do nothing. This is not about pride, it's about survival.
Also given the enviornment of a classroom, hiding behind a desk and trying not to appear to a gunmen is probably the best thing to do. You have to remember that ost of the kids who shoot up these schools are mentally disturbed and don't care who they shoot. The best thing to do is to hide.
It's certainly easy to claim that when you don't have a gun pointed at you with, at MOST, only seconds to react. So easy it hurts. So easy it hurts to read someone actually communicate something so idiotic. If it was SUCH a fact as to what they could have done then those kids wouldn't have been killed.
The primary gun used in the Virgina Tech shooting, a Glock 19, fires a 9x19mm round. This round is fired at average 350 METERS PER SECOND. That is as fast a car going 3,780,000 miles per hour. It's really fucking fast. You get shot at and it misses you, I'd like to see the video.
"They were taught to do nothing from a very young age."
I call bullshit.
First off, if someone has a gun, charging them is a nice way to get shot in the fucking face, so stop trying to make it sound all easy-as-pie and shit. If you don't have a gun of your own or there's no way to catch the person unawares from behind with your own attack or WHATEVER... then you run, you run your fucking ass off, zig-zag pattern and all that shit. Hiding is a LAST resort because there's nowhere to go if you're found out. "Doing nothing?" NO ONE, NOOOOO ONE "DOES NOTHING" when shit like that goes down.
You don't run, you run you expose yourself to the shooter, and BANG! You're dead. Hiding is the best thing to do. You get found? All I have to ask is if you feel lucky. You're not taught nothing, you're taught how to survive best in a situation.
Lockdown drills? Fuck that. Here's an idea -- put martial arts and basic light-arms training into public school education. Teach everyone how to kick some ass, and teach them how to kick ass responsibly. It can help build self-confidence, which is a great preventative measure in that most of those kids who went ballistic lacked precisely that -- self-confidence. Also, when everyone knows that everyone else can kick ass too, they won't be so anxious to start shit. These crazy fucks go bonkers because they think they won't have to face any consequences -- when they're cornered they'll just pop themselves in the head and end it real quick-like. You think they would start shit if they knew there was a decent-to-likely chance of getting their guns slapped off em and having their faces beaten inside-out AND having to go to jail for it? Hell no. They're fucking cowards. That's why they do what they do the way they do it.
Okay, I'd like to see that. How would you hire the teachers, if there were enough teachers in the area? Where would you have the space for the training? Is it considered another class? Where do you get the money? What about all the insurence if people misue it? etc, etc. There would be too many other questions for that to pass. A school board would crush it.
The problem with an adolescent brain is the last part of it do develop is the consequence part. This means we cannot predict the outcome of our actions accurately. Do you think the shooters actually plan on getting shot? No. They can't see that it is going to happen.
Also many of the shooters are depressed or have a type of mental disorder. They don't know how to express their feelings in an appropriate way. For them this is the only way. They know it's the only way out.
Anyway, the best kind of progress comes from finding and treating the source of the disease rather than trying to address each and every symptom that it causes -- however ugly they may be. Clearly school massacres are indicative of some deeper form of 'dis-ease' within society, and lockdown drills aren't designed to do shit about that.
Good luck with that. It may be a mental disorder, but it could also be to enviornmental factors, such as peers or family.
Okay then, if you want to stop the drills, let's put it into a worse term scenario.
There are no drills because you, as a superintendent, said so. "It's not going to happen" you say. Gunmen walk into a school one day and start shooting the place up. The kids do nothing because they are taught nothing. All of the students plus teachers are killed. Now the parents come, looking for someone to blame.
Guess what? Since you called the drills off, you're to blame. Parents sue the board, and you are found gulity. You get to pay off a king's ransom to each family. That's not good, is it?
Given the state of schools, the lockdown drill is the best thing to do. It helps increase the chances of survival, which is why they are practised.
Dead seagull. Roasted with water chestnuts.
Nuff said.
Fuck, I made it gay.
God dammit.
Crap.......how does this thread keep on popping back up? Damn.
Okay, still taking ideas. Any takers?

Note: the poll aninjaman is referring to also says you're more likely to believe in a 9/11 conspiracy if you're poor, uneducated, and a Democrat.

Well, sorry for being OCDing on spelling.
By the way, thanks for the news post. Too bad only the democrat part applies to me.

Either way we're still fucking screwed when it comes to the national budget.

But really, I hate this bullshit that's going on about the 9/11. Seriously, can't we just leave it in the past? Come on, lots of shit happened, so can't we forget about it while still remembering those who died?
Hooray for alts saying random and stupid things! Yep, another failed topic where the person who started it is getting flammed! Yes, let's all jump on the bandwagon against the guy who thinks this bullshit is actually relevant!
Seriously, don't post this bullshit here. This won't happen you fucking worthless piece of shit. Get your facts straight and some fucking common sense. You don't know squat about politics, so get your ass off the politics forum and back to general. NOW!

You're right... Obama is going to have a tough time, Hillary's followers strongly beleive that Obama, the DNC, and the media betrayed the clinton legacy; they're colaborators to an unforgivable scheme that can only be punished by voting against Obama.
Yes, well having Hillary as VP would be a death sentence for the Democracts. Would not be good either way, I'm still guessing it will be Jim Webb.

About Carter or Obama?

Kennedy's legacy of domestic policy would also be nothing like Obama's... The only program i know of that Kennedy began was research of space exploration... Obama has BIG spending plans for this country, spending that even with tax hikes we cannot afford; soon they're won't be enough money to tax at all. If Obama is so pragmatic he should know that the US dollar is in the tank unless we start giving power back to the people. Mccain unfortunately is only slightly better, but i see Obama as more of a Jimmy Carter than a Kennedy; A Newcomer of hope.
Agreed! I've seen both comparisons, but more to Jimmy Carter. It's a shame though, that Carter only got 1 term...I would have liked to seen him in the second term.
As much as I like the Obama support (Yeah! Barack the vote!) This isn't a free +1 post with mindless go (insert name here) thread. It's a thread to discuss the multitude of issues that will go with the elections.
Well, since there are a lot of crap threads about the election, it's time to make a universal one so hopefully there will be less crap threads and more discussion in one general thread.
Anyway, it's Obama vs. McCain. New vs. Old. (quite literally, see things younger than McCain) Change vs. Consant.
Yes, I am biased, and I will be voting for Obama in November, but let's see what other have to say.
Any of the Bourne films. The soundtracks are very fastpaced and protray the movie quite well.

Gentlemen, behold! A man who doesn't get the joke! I believe it is HE that fails!
Yes, but when given the choice, people tend to go with the more simplier one.
Yes, Christianity is very primitive. Hell, all religion is primtive.
Look at it this way. Religion is saying, oh, hell, I did something bad. Boo hoo hoo. I need something to help. Blah blah blah help me God, etc.
Religion is no more than self pity. You can not accept yourself for what you did. I would even go as far as saying it is dangerous to one's mental health, but that's just me. We need to stop thinking it as a guideline to life, rather an example or a advice column. You don't have to follow it with all your heart, but you can take advice from it.

Yep, we're not defending a country, we're just proving him wrong with his non-existant sources.
You really shouldn't be posting this, for you will get flammed. I hope your defences and sources are ready.
But all and all, you can't say anything about a country based off a fucking book. If you want to play that way then, I can say that Germany is filled with Nazi shit heads like yourself. You can't just make general comments without actually being in the country.
So please, don't post this bullshit here.

Thank you random peros so saying absolutely nothing.
Seriously, I believe that the best running mate for Obama nowis Jim Webb. Not only does he have the military backround and experience, he can also carry Virginia, his home state, which is often Republican.
Thoughts?
No, if anybody were to run under Obama, it would be Jim Webb of Virginia. He has the military experience and the creditals to do so.
He would also be able to carry Virginia, a usually Republican state.
