Russell Brower is the man. Basically scuplted the music for all the Blizzard games. It's also some of the best orchestration and production out there for game music.

Any songwriter could learn a thing or two from that guys soundtracks.

I don't know about that. Getting Ultimate means paying for quite a bit of extra baggage.

I think waiting for Komplete 8 regular to get down to 300 bucks is a good way to get mosta the standards. Stores will have extras from before that they want to sell off.

Response to: Committing to your music Posted March 9th, 2013 in Audio

I have 1500 or so WIPS, and about 800 completed songs....so thats like 35% or so. Feels like I finish less though.

My problem is that ideas seem longer in my head, then when I actually try to flesh them out they just start to seem unnatural or repetitive. I think computer musicians are just naturally somewhat scatterbrained.

Also, in all honesty, I'm about 3x as likely to finish a piece if I smoke herbal supplements during the process. Its a combination of getting more excited about stuff, and being too lazy to do all the fancy work that a song should probably have.

I have, however, finished MANY songs that I had no interest in what so ever all the way throughout. You kind of have to sometimes when you work as a musician.

Its either fun, or for a contest, or maybe even a legitimate improvement of a piece.

If you're lucky its a combo.

Prodyon - $15 Going Out Of Biz Sale Posted March 1st, 2013 in Audio

Hey yall,

Prodyon is giving away all their plug-ins for 15 bucks for the next week. They are sadly going out of business. Its a flash website, so click on each individual picture to find out more info it since I can't link it individually.

There are some really nice little gems in there, and definitely a lot of fun random stuff.

Its worth it. For the cost of a dinner more or less. You should do it. That is all.

Cheers!

Greetings!

2) I am about to set off on a venture in that genre for my first ever feature film and will need as much help as I can get.

A feature film is a HUGE undertaking, and there are a lot of different caliber artists here. Starting at those who are doing this as a hobby and just want to make music, to people who do this as a living. I follow the latter, so I must ask some rather important questions so your intentions will be more clear:

1 - Are you looking to license music already made? Or have custom compositions made for your content?

2 - Are any of these paid positions? What budget do you have for your short films audio staff usually?

3 - Are you looking for just a composer? Sounds like you have sound effects and a re-mixing engineer already.

4 - Any thoughts on what you'll be paying for the feature film composer position? Keep in mind, a feature film takes composers at least 2 months of work for a lower end project, and thats QUITE a lot of time.

5 - Are you looking for a guy to join your team? Or just temporary work for the moment?

Also, for jazz/noir related stuff my go-to guy is Camoshark. He is a great asset.

Cheers!

- Mike Breed

Response to: How to handle musicians in projects Posted February 27th, 2013 in Audio

Good information. Agree 100%.

Here's the problem with good information though. The ones who are most likely to do everything wrong, are the ones who won't even bother to read it.

I've run into this problem plenty of times. Don't forget....you can always quit a project if the director is not worth working for. I've had to do this plenty of times because in the business of art, people are quite bad at judging value of both time and work.

NeuroFunkGrid posted Lap Cat on youtube. I actually saw that one first.

Its fun stuff mate. Was definitely worth the listen. If anything I'd say your mixing is a little bit sharp. Maybe work a little bit towards giving a bit more natural rounded corners if ya know what I mean. One more small tip: with intense modulation comes risk of things being emphasized at weird off rhythms...it was only occasional I heard this, but its something.

You may also want to double check the preview of Vajra on beatport. I just noticed its extremely quiet for a section to preview. I mean its cool, but seems like a preview mistake.

Cheers mate!

P.S. I am not good at saying nice things, just critique. Forgive me hahaha
