What interface are you using? What acoustic treatment are you using?

A healthy balance of preamp, acoustics, and microphone will far exceed the quality of a good mic alone.

My week just keeps getting better.

I have never once been written up at my work in the 3 years I've been there. Today I was given a final written warning for simply HOLDING an ecig in my hands inside the building (not using it, just having it out). They told me the next time I was seen with it, I'd be fired.

This is some bullshiiiiiiiiiit. Time to start looking for another job.

Like most charts, it frustrates me that they dont include all the competition. Studio One, Reaper, Reason, Audition, Samplitude, and Bitwig are all not represented. On top of that, a lot of those features are based quantitative factors when much of the value is qualitative, especially FL Studio and Studio One.

That said I still prefer breaking down which DAW is going to be best for someone based on their needs and budget.

I just left my girlfriend of 3 years.

Since when did woman become the despicable untrustworthy sex? I mean I'd like to find one fucking woman who can keep it in her damn pants. It is NOT hard to not cheat. 3rd serious relationship in a row where I've been cheated on. Talking to all my friends they have the same damn problem.

This needs a beat man! I like it :)

Guys I need a virus/malware scanner, preferably free. Any recommendations?

AVG or Microsoft Security Essentials for antivirus. Those are both free and take up minimum system performance compared to the big dogs like McAfee and Norton.

For malware I'd recommend Malwarebytes or Spybot. Same thing with these, they dont take up much.

They all get the job done though.

Id personally recommend this mic. It's a smidge better USB mic for barely any more than the snowball.

If mixing accuracy is the goal, and you aren't planning on using these while recording, then you should also consider the AKG K240s. If you are recording with them then I'd go for the Sennheiser HD280s. The Shure SRH440s are also viable but the feature that makes them stand out is durability not accuracy. The Audio Technica ATHM50X's are a really nice option, but cost more. The regular M50s are discontinued but if you can find them for sale you'll probably get a good clearance price and that is definitely worth it.

Out of all those, the M50X and the HD280s are the only ones with coiled cable options factory stock.

Also worth noting if you're willing to skip up to the $200 price point (which is about as high as headphones get without diminishing returns in higher prices), the Beyerdynamic DT770's are an awesome awesome choice. They are my favorite headphones for the money. Also at that pricepoint is the AKG K271ii & Q701 & K167, the Sennheiser HD380, and the Shure SRH840.

I'd be happy to break down the pros and cons of any of these models if you find you're interested in some of them.

Cheers!

So I'm excited.

I recently got hired for a local recording gig here in my home studio. 600 bucks to record 3 performers. Should only take about ten to twelve hours of studio time. I don't normally try to book clients for that, but damn its gonna feel good paying bills off with that shit. I've also got drummers wanting to recording with me. And two bands wants me to master their shit now.

It'll also be my first time recording a violinist. I've done cello and double bass, but not viola or violin. The others are just singers and guitarists which is bread and butter to any studio recording so no problem there.

How is it, that every fucking service that I offer as a side service to my main one (being composition) is blowing up right now? I dont even market that I do local recording or mixing/mastering.

Consider checking CPU & graphics card against cpu benchmark

The CPU i recommended runs a lot better value than the others people listed. No offense to you guys or anything.

Response to: New computer? Posted October 17th, 2014 in Audio

Budget part of that 1500 for an audio interface if you dont have one. Maybe like 100-150 of it for that, then the soundcard never matters and itll be loads better than any built in one.

Prioritize CPU, RAM, and with that budget maybe an SSD just for start up, like 128gb or 256gb.

For CPU I'd recommend either the Intel I7-5820k or the 4790k in there.

For ram, 16gb should be doable np, maybe even 24 or 32 if youre building it yourself.

I'd recommend a good TB or 2 on the regular hard drive portion.

Fuck water cooling, fuck super intense graphics cards unless you also plan to do online gaming or plan to run 3+ screens. Maybe just something like a GTX 660.
