4.07 / 5.00 10,082 ViewsI've been told that when I draw,I should use my arm instead of wrist when making lines, but I can't seem to make it into a habit. It just seems difficult, especially when my desk is cluttered and I have limited arm space.
Another problem I have is I keep losing motivation or I can't figure out what to draw and stop drawing for weeks.
And finally, somebody told me that because I didn't start early like most artists,I'll never be a great artist.I'm not sure what to think of this,so I'm asking you guys.
Thanks for taking your time to answer my dumb questions.

Cool stuff keep it up
Haha yes.
I like to draw unsettling babies because they make the people I show them to feel uncomfortable which is always a fun time for me :D

No.
Totodile is atleast 70% cuter.
And heres a rushed photo of a friend of mine who requested I draw them
(In exchange for candies,so it wasn't all bad)
Only thing I didn't like was the shading.
Heres a Dinosaur with a scale mohawk
(Scales? Spikes?)
I rushed this one as I didn't add any shading like my previous one.
Also I apologize for the drawing being vertical
If I could fix it,I would
Heres a baby.
I messed up the arm(it looks bizarre)
But I'll post it anyways
I'm going to try and post as many drawings as I can draw on this forum post.
Anyways,
I want to know what you think on any of my drawings.
I don't usually have anybody who is willing to look at my pictures and point out any flaws so all I got is you guys.
Thank you.

The drawing is good, for a beginner. You took the initiative to shade, which shows that you put some thought into it.
Try using shadows instead of lines in areas where a line looks too harsh, for example the abdominal area in real life doesn't look like a tic-tac-toe board, there are subtleties.
In reality there are no lines, only instances where one color or shade stops, and another one starts.
And keep shading! It really does help you understand volume. You'll get there.
Thank you,I'll try my best to improve in my weaker areas :D
Maybe il get a drawing tablet once I have some extra money.
Drawing on paper always leads to unwanted smudges and just looks really messy.

Oh my
I realized it looks like Feraligatr too..
Anyways
Telling me you don't like it isn't a help to me.
Why don't you like it?
I need feedback so I can improve.

Since you have 10 experience points right now, you should level up after voting on five submissions as of now.
But I haven't leveled up and its been a few months.Am I doing something wrong?
You can continue to vote on submissions afterwards, but you will not earn anymore experience until the next day, starting at midnight. Note that voting on audio and art submissions will not count towards your daily five votes.
:I assume you're confusing reviews with voting, but there is a difference. To vote on a submission, you need to click on one of six rating buttons where it says "Rate this submission!". Remember to vote carefully and honestly on submissions under judgement. Your vote can affect whether they will be deleted or they will stay on this website.
Wow I'm dumb.
Thanks for the help.

No problem! If you start digital , i recomend Paint Tool Sai. Photoshop is way better when it comes to painting but sai:
1) has much cleaner lines so its perfect for visible lineworks , better than ps even.
2) easy to use but not kids or limited ( again , it has not as many options and tools as ps)
3) its very cheap to buy
4) sai can save psd files aswell so if you change your mind and roll photoshop after some time , or you need to work on both , as i usually must , sai is super convenient about this.
Best out of all though is to download trials from several programs and test them all to see your best fit! Good luck!
Thanks for all the help, also I couldn't help but notice your art looked familiar.
You have a very cool art style and I have two questions:
How did you develop your art style?
And
I've been drawing for about 6 years, how long have you been drawing?
I'm just curious is all.
At 8/9/13 10:14 AM, Kkylimos wrote: Hey , i like your style! It would be perfect for animation or comic! Its cartoony so , it would be silly to outline the anatomical mistakes but , work hard to develop your skills even more! Main comment i have to make is , your tools are not good enough. If you wanna stick with traditional and not thinking of moving to digital , i suggest you drop the pencil , it doesnt do justice to your style. The bestest ever tool for your kind of technique is markers and maybe watercolours too! They are clean , perfect for linework and overall very cool visually! Here's a gallery of a guy you could relate to , i suggest you study his style , he even has some tutorials from what iv seen! http://dsilvabarred.deviantart.com/gallery/
I've been saving up for a tablet and a brand new computer so I should be posting digital drawings in maybe a month or two.and yes,you are correct,I feel like using a pencil is holding me back as I make many mistakes sometimes which doesn't really help my confidence. But anyways, thank you for your feedback :D
I've drawn a baby.
I'm unhappy with the arms but as they say:
It is incredibly annoying to erase on paper.

I guess its a really exaggerated cartoon version of myself.(as we both have similar hair and dumb faces :D )
What I would like to know is what you guys think,
and don't be afraid to give me your most honest opinion.
I may post more drawings if people respond and give me helpful tips on my mistakes.
Thank you for wasting your time on me! :D
I like it.
Thank you :D
Although my drawings are a little bit simple,I try my best to make them appealing to look at or just plain weird.
I shall post more drawings once I get around to drawing them.

P
And just something extra to say,
A lot of people say that they find my drawings nice and give me positive feedback.
So I was wondering to myself "maybe my art just looks bad in my perspective?"
Come to think of it,my art style is really silly looking.
I find it unappealing though and was wondering if I could change my art style? How would someone do that?
And I apologise for not posting a drawing like a few of you have asked.
I will get around to that soon.
And again, thank you for your time! :D
Whenever I draw,(mostly on paper with a pencil and occasionally a pen)
my drawings tend to look really messy.Even if i tidy it up it just doesn't feel right.
I'm not sure if it's because im using the wrong pencil or because its on paper or
maybe I just draw badly.
I'm hoping someone with similar experience with these issues can help me?
If you responded to my question, thank you for your time. :D

Not just that, but I have trouble with drawing faces. It seems that something is always off when I draw a personâEUTMs face, like, for instance, eyes may not look aligned, or the mouth is crooked. I always use straight edges and measurements to try and get it right, but it never seems to work for me?
If you have any advice, I would be glad to hear it.
It would be easier to give you advice for faces if we could see a drawing of yours.

I did my best to fix the issue with the jawline.I used a couple references to do so though.
I'm not exactly sure if I fixed it,but it looks better than before. It seems il have to brish up on my anatomy and shading.
Again,thank you.

I have a picture that I'd like to submit to newgrounds
BUT
Its just a sketch in my art book.
So what im saying is:
Am i able to post this sketch onto Newgrounds even if its just a sketch?

Yes I have.
I think most of my troubles are getting the shading right and anatomy.
