soooo, yeah, that's just you becoming more technical, sorry to say. :P

idk, maybe the last 3 weren't epiphanies, but the first 2 definitely were. I didn't learn them anywhere, they just kinda hit me.

Wow, I've had a few epiphanies on my way producing drum & bass, a few of the larger ones were:

- How to make a (good) reese. This was a huge one.
- How to modulate a reese (well). Another huge one.
- How to process my drums to make them tighter.
- Using a spectrum analyzer to help mix down the track.
- And a more recent one, stereo imaging to make the track sound "bigger" and give it more space.

Of course, I've had little epiphanies on how to make certain synth sounds and such, but these ones were definitely crucial to my growth as a drum & bass producer. I'll doubtlessly be having many more epiphanies in the future.

Fruity Loops stopped reading MP3 files. It worked perfectly fine a month ago but now it does not read them at all.

I don't know when it happened exactly or how it stopped working but it doesn't work anymore.
I dont really want you to open the mp3 file in FL, but im just saying thats the longest my song goes and then it loops.. :( This is the flp file:

http://fileshost.com/download.php?id=886 6A1931

I don't think he was answering your question. But I think your problem is that you're not using the playlist, just the step sequencer. Look up some decent tutorials, and use the playlist to make your songs longer. The playlist is where you organize all of your patterns into a song.

Thanks.
You dont need to save as a loop, just save as mp3 file, then when you submit it to NG, make sure you select "Loop" and not "Song"

That doesn't make it a loop. You have to make sure that your song ends in such a way that it fits with the beginning of the song, then export it and change the "looping mode" in the export settings box.

Not with two monitors :D

In order to play a pattern, you have to put it in a playlist.

No you don't, you can play patterns on their own.

piano roll doesn't play sound when a note is clicked.

Last time I checked, it does.

Sytrus is the best synth, and that isn't good.

The best INCLUDED synth. Obviously they're not gonna include some amazing synth with the software. All the good ones are sold separately. Get over it and get some new plugins. And if you can't, then actually LEARN how to make your own sounds, and any VSTi can sound good.

Fl is completed by external plugins.

That's kind of the point... FL is not meant to ONLY use the included ones. Any DAW will be better with external plugins.

I actually own a regular MicroKorg, and I've got no problems with it, it works fine for what I need it for. I'm no expert at synth programming, so I don't need anything over the top, which is why I got a MicroKorg. If you want something with more features then I'd go for the XL.

The regular one certainly isn't bad though. Quite fun.

As far as I know, Reaper is similar to Cubase, but without the awesomeness of Cubase. Then again, this is drawn solely from screenshots of the program; I've never used it.

It's certainly not bad though. It's a complete DAW, and pretty damn cheap for what it does.

Layering, EQing, and compression is usually what I do. You have to think of everything in the mix; it takes practice to be able to get a good mixdown, but if you keep trying you'll get it.

Use whatever you want. It's your song. If you want to get a real idea of drum & bass, look up some REAL drum & bass, not the stuff on NG.

I lol'd when I read "caterers." lol.

And yeah, I know the tonality changes, and you may not have as much control over the sound, but most of the time it gets the job done. However, if the OP is going for a real-sounding track, yeah, he'd be better off with something that allowed more control.

samples don't have to be real recordings, they're basically just sound files, whereas VSTis are generators that make the sound in real time. I think some VSTs use samples to get their sounds though, especially the orchestral/"real instrument" ones. Not sure about that though.

I think you'd find it a lot easier to just look up "Japanese instrument samples" on google. Then you can download a single .wav (or .aif or whatever you want) of an instrument, load it in a sampler, and play it as you would play any VST.

It's a good idea, but it's really easy to cheat. To make a full drum beat in one channel, I could make it with many samplers and then bounce it and load it in a slicer as a single channel.

lol. Now maybe a challenge like two instruments only, that would solve this problem...
