I like that idea of seeing something else in the sword that we cannot. I might play with that some more. Thanks!
Okay, so give the man some more manliness, got it. Thanks!

That implies that this person has had prior experience with swords due to the stance. If you want to achieve true realism, you may want to bulk up the warrior's body build. Other than that and the above mentioned hair issue, I see this as a fine work.
OH, I see what you're talking about. It's the pony tail in the back! It does give that illusion of a coned head. Hehe, thanks for pointing that out.

So... narrow the face in a bit??
This short story has chapters? Sounds more like a chap-book than short story. What exactly is your story going to be about? I've written several novels and short stories, and I've helped critique multiple manuscripts (throughout different websites and over time). So maybe I can help you.
I've seen several body reference books in the stores. One type is published by Impact. I really like their materials because it comes with CD's to pull images onto your computer to work with. Maybe you could look into that.
I am planning to submit this illustration to the "Spectrum" art contest, due January 25, 2013. I've been working on it over time and was interested in any suggestions that could make it better.
It's painted from scratch in Photoshop using several models, brushes and photo textures.
What type of game are you designing?
