I seriously can't wait for this thing to be out. It's killing me, like, when you have to pee really bad, but you can't.
I can assure you Flashbound and Forbid have been working v.hard to make the whole thing right - speaking for myself - the mess of layers i had was quite bad :P
Been not saying this...
...LET'S RAPE THE FRONT PAGE!

forbid, yes there'll be variations. they won't all be random though... It'll be preset by me.
Pink one means 'Awsome!' and the blue one means 'Even more crap from japan' :D
(there it is, the kiss again :P)
Flashbound, as i told you when you sent me the preview, VERY VERY badass and i'm quite keen on seeing it hit the front page (any chance of medals? :P i joke). Seeing that we're going to keep this thread running, i'll post a random pic once in a while of my next project - taking a break from the 40K universe onto something more....asian....

Ok ;p
AT LONG LAST!
I put in some help in the collab :P Flashbound18, if i were you (just an opinion, not forcing you or rambling, but i want to prove my theory on 'medals=more views' here :P), once our animations are in a relatively good size, suggest that - when the stuff's all combined into one nice masterpiece - i'll send the .swf to Stamper (thanking him for the help and showing him what we made) and we can hopefully get approval for the medals when he sees the hard work we've put into it.
Stamper replied, quite fast i must add, and here's the pm for all of you to see. I think we can work on these guidelines as they seem to be more detailed than TomFulp's brief pm (he's a busy man, running a family and all - i think :P)

Dear Stamper,
I'm pm-ing you to ask for some help if you dont mind :) I'm taking part in a collab (the Warhammer 40K collab) who's animations are all complete. However, we're trying to combine the FLA's into one big fla and flash either crashes or brings up errors when publishing the movie :'(
Could you please give me some tips on how to combine the animations?
Thanking you in advance,
Andrea 'Bomblu' Meli
get every submission as small as you can before you start to add them to a mothership FLA.
small meaning:
- optimize all the art you can without losing too much quality
- put everything you can into symbols you can re-use, then re-use them
- delete anything off the timeline that's unnecessary (sketches or storyboards people leave behind)
- turn everyones audio into a single track MP3 and re-import it, then sync it back to their submission (audio makes up a HUGE PART)
- go into their library and doubleclick any imported graphics, then uncheck 'use imported quality' and lower that (drastically helps final SWF size)
also, make sure to use 'save and compact' a lot to remove unnecessary bloat, and it'll be helpful to use that 'remove all unused items' from the libraries of the individual artist flas, and use save and compact on theirs too so you get a better idea of the filesizes you're about to dump into the mother FLA. if the mother FLA gets too convoluted or massive it'll crash constantly or refuse to export, so your goal is to make everything as small as you can before you put it in.
good luck!
Well, some old stuff there, but one mp3 layer and the compact and stuff's all new...
Hopefully, i bring hope in these dark and troubled times :P
kk, pm'd Stamper and Utah :)
Ok, there must be a way for it to be done, it's not a theory - we see quite a lot of collabs nowadays. I've decided to contact the big guys myself, see what they say, and i havent had time to complete the credits cos i've been looking up and experimenting with a 'fake collab' i'm making (that is, trying to combine all the cartoons i've made in the past 5 years into 1 fla).
I'll bring out news once i've got some. But, i'll be away for a week as from next sunday. Hopefully i'll manage to wrap up my stuff by then. If i find a way and flashbound still wont manage to compile it the way it works, then i'm ready to compile all the animations myself dw :) [though i doubt my 1gig ram and single core will do the trick :P]
Forbid might have pointed this out to you, flashbound, but i think you're not compiling the collab the way it should be done, especially for AS3. Rather than combining all the FLA's, the most reasonable option would be to import the SWF's (quite a difference from a 20meg fla to a 40kb swf right?). Therefore, you'd have one layer of keyframed animation and then add the audio layers.
If i were you i'd try that out before putting your foot down and releasing the collab in as2. My theory is still that of 'medals = more views' and after all, we've worked (and are still working) quite hard to put up a good colab, it'd be a pity if the collab passes by un-noticed.
Flash, if you want me to try compiling the collab with swf's i'll be glad to help, i'd just want to say i'll be going to austria next week so i'll be a bit unavailable. If need be, i'll try take a day off work to help out :P
GALILEO!

So, i'm making the credist and i want to know something before i start putting in some effects on the text, what flash version will the whole thing be saved as? AS2, AS3...AS -1.8? :P
True, osrry - forgot you had summer holidays right now. Yes we do have the solid school then summer, but the last time i went to college was a week before easter (cos our final years end on that day, then A levels) :P
Did you try contact Wade Fulp? or any other member of the ng staff?
Yes but some seem to be in a hurry for seeing the collab submitted. I for one know 1st hand how hard it is to complete all the animations, create a menu and so on. Coding in as3 is a bugger sometimes, let alone effectively compiling all the work we've done.
Things done in a hurry end up crappy, so i'm all in for waiting till all is done - be it one disk or two. They've all got their pro's and cons. I wont mind animating another clip, trojen was pissed for not having enough time to make another one, and flashbound was going to chuck in the ones he wasnt going to put in the original collab, so there's more than enough for a disk two.
What i rly dont get here is all the high hopes most of us have got, and then some who have these hopes bash down the effort flashbound's making to compile our animations in the highest standard possible.
Not that i hold any power in say over what will be done, however you must AT LEAST be patient when it comes to 'getting over' with this big project. As far as i can see(metaphorically), flashbound's tried more than once to compile the thing however, due to some animations, the collab is crashing. So, unless we give him time or the option of making a disk 2, i think you (in general, not directed to one person) should help out a bit and possibly help in finding a way to solve the problem.
If you think it's too much to at least try, then i think you're going to have to shut up and wait.
Hmm... well he did spend quite some time to answer me about the medals, so we must keep in mind that lots of ppl post spam to fulp, so he'd have to go though all the crap he gets before some ligh is shed onto a decent pm :P
However, even though i dont mind the delay (i believe in 'waiting' for a good result rather than rushing things up...and also cos i'm extremely busy at work and didnt manage to complete the tiny bits left yet), one can pm ppl like johnyutah or stamper or i dont know who else, as to ask them more directly about collabs...
Lol the confsing thing is that sometimes ppl tell me 'dont need to finish it' when they come some time after and say 'yeah finish it off it'll be great!' :P
Obvously, it's a matter of opinion and, i persoanlly, think it's one of my funnyest things in the collab - which is why i animated till 'dark sext rituals tonight' and forbid liked it quite a lot :P So, all i've got left to animate is the final 'i kissed a spawn and i liked it, and i liked it'. and some minor tweaks.
As for the collab combining, i think we're still waiting for tom fulp to tell flashbound the best way to compile all our animations. Also, if any of you guys who still follow the forum have ever compiled a collab before, i think flashbound might appreciate your help ;p
This is mainly directed to forbid and flash, as i'm at wrok and i seem to be cursedby 'no time to conclude my flash this weekend' so i'll do so tonight. I asked forbid if he tought the song 'i believe in a thing called love' would be funny for the credits as not to continue with the i kissed a girl music, also possibly stopping the joke at the end of the specific aniamtion.
Dont know, you decide, i'll start wrting up the credits at work and post the text here once it's ready for approval etc :)
Sorry dudes, fuking busy week this has been - webdesigns getting a bit of a pain (completed 3 websites, 1000+ images to crop and sharpen and import into MODx etc...quite annoying)
Ok so i sent most of my parts to don, i still have to send ikas and the asian one i think.
And i'll be here all weekend dw ;p
Ok to all those who rant, forbid and flashbound are working very hard to get the collab combined and checked for mistakes. I'm tagging along as unfortunately, work's taking a big part of my time awake. However, if you all want to help out a little more - and being that i'm working on the credits, pleae post the names of the tracks (music) you used in your parts. If yo've got the source from where you got your sfx, it'll be good aswell so we can fill the 'credits' section in the credits :P
Also, if any of you are missing any pics for the menu front screen or their bios page, please send them to flashbound, forbid or myself :)
Ok so my stuff's almost ready, however last night i was unavailable (ps. the new tranformers is awsome :P) and i'm still recieving new data for the bios etc, which is the cause of me not being able to send you the menu fla. I also downloaded o fortuna, and i'll chop a decent piece from it to be the loop. The song fits extremely well with the menu :P
Well, it's been a wild morning, animating non stop - but i managed to touch up all my animations :) All i've got to do know is to refine the menu with the stuff you continued to email and pm me yesterday, and conclude i kissed a spawn for i was englishtened with a couple of ideas last night :P
One more time...
LETS OWN THE FRONT PAGE
Dont worry guys, tyhe stuff you pointed out is top priority for changing/fixing. Well, i must say i have no FUCKING idea how i'm going to be able to complete all this stuff by tonight, especially i kissed a spawn. I'll try :P
Sorry
Here's the link :P
http://spamtheweb.com/ul/upload/280609/4 3196_Warhammer_40K_Collab_Menu_AS3.php
Ok, so i must confess i didnt work much yesterday, however, i completed the menu 99% this morning. All i need to do is put in the pics some of you sent me, for those who havent, please, i'm waiting.
Also, Nuttro and Globidictus guy, i havent got your bios yet so pls, email, pm or post them here :)
Also, for the main menu page, i dont have time to draw all of us so, if you dont mind, email me an swf or fla of a static image of one of your characters from your animations will quicken the process completely. Hopefully, it'll look good :P I also need the names of the ppl who backed out pls, mr.Flashbound 18.
In the menu i uploaded, there are some red texts in the bios pages. Those, i believe, are either too long or might need fixing for racial discrimiantions etc.
I'll not finish tweaking the other animations i made :)
criticism ect is EXTREMELY important now pls :)
Okidoki, yesterday i didnt have time to do anything cos i was working till 5:30 then i spent the evening playing kung fu panda and mirror's edge demo - but this morning i'm going to HOPEFULLY finish off that menu, and GOD HELP me finish i kissed a spawn....

I'm trying to send my original movie fla, but it's 15 MB, is that unusually high? I can't find an email provider that will let me send it.
Good point. Ok, once flashbound's off for a holiday if i'm not mistaken and forbid's busy playing with his sexbox (i should be doing that cos i just got one :D) I'll give out a few suggestions to all of you guys.
If i were you i'd start uploading your animations onto one of those sites, and PM them to Flashbound18. DONT POST THEM HERE as some guy can come, download them onto his pc and publish thm in his name. After the hard work we've been through, it'd be a pity toget it published illgally :P
Also, trojen, if you made some transition please post it so i'll see if it's pretty or not ;p
At 6/24/09 04:23 PM, Pawn007 wrote: Could you make us a list of who owes you stuff?
Offhand, i need the avatars from all you guys except Pawn007 and RedHarvest. Nuttro and Forbid (possibly another one or two) need to give me their bios. I didnt do anything yesterday as i was busy drawing storyboards for a possible film filmed in malta, but i should be able to finish menu and i kissed a spawn by the weekend :)
At 6/24/09 12:24 PM, TrojenMonkey wrote: As a graphic 'artist', I can take on the transition scene <_<
If so, contact me through a PM.
If you feel your parts are 100% ready, de-bugged and front page quality, make one and post it here. We can then decide which one is best. Democracy, the way to go :P
Little update on my progress with all the pending stuff. Menu's almost complete, if anyone hasnt sent in their bio PLEASE do so by the next 8 hours so i'll be able to upload the final verision for all to see. Flashbound, if you could email me the preloader with game, i cant embed it into the menu in the 1st frame so we can see them together. I'm hoping to finish off i kissed a spawn and the little tweeks i need to make by saturday afternoon, leaving me with sunday to make the credits.
For all the menu stuff, please email them at thebomblu@hotmail.com
Oh, and if somene has some free time and wants to help me out a bit (chopping a agood audio file for the menu loop, etc) please pm or email me, it'd be greatly appreciated :P
I'm running through all the things we discussed and remembering them bit by bit (i'm still a work so i cant actually stop and think for now :P) and i remembered some stuff which i think hasnt been done yet:
(in no particular order of imortance and not targeted to anyone, i discussed flashbound's text and i believe his decision was a decent one considering the placing of characters, howver, for you others)
1. SUBTITLES: I suggest they'll all be in the same font, same size, same placement etc. I like uniformity, so if you like the idea, you can start by writing your subs on a word document. If flashbound saysthat we should keep them all in a unifom thing, i'll create a template file and post so you can use it in your animations.
2. FILE SIZE: If we can reduce the file size, the more the better cos i for one have the biggest flash animation due to the vids in it. I'll search on compressing vids once i'm home.
3. TRANSITONS: Shall one of the colab members re-make it? Shall we keep one of the ones already made?
4. AUTHOR NAMES: I believe they have to be in one specific corner of the animation screen, possibly in the same font etc but flashbound has to decide upon this i think :)
That's all for now, just remembering all the stuff and acting like a secretary to the boss :P
No problem mate, i'll explain :)
:want for the image bomblu...a drawn picture of us? or a still shot from our collab part? or just whatever we want?
We'll use the pic to fill up the rock on the Artist Bio page (you can see mine on the previous page) which will serve as a form of avatar for us.
also....this might be dumb...but if its just a still image u want, why FLA...cant it just be a jpg or whatever?
For me to morph it into the rock, it'd better be flash cos it'll remain neat, clean and drastically reduces filesize.
Hope this helps :)
