Following the success of the WH40K Collab which achieved front page status, we as organisers have decided to produce a Warhammer Fantasy Battles Comedy Collab!
1st Phase - *AUDITIONS*:
Produce a 10 second short (roughly), containing both a Warhammer related joke and show of your animation (we would like to see some movement) this must use characters from the Warhammer: Fantasy Universe such as Dark Elves, Orcs, Lizardmen, Empire etc etc - you get the picture. Provided your admitted entry, this piece may be used for the final Collab.
We will be very strong on our position of what's good and what's not, so please don't take rejections to heart, we will offer constructive critisism, and you may try again. (as many times as you like)
-TL;DRCreate a 10 second short, a joke and small animation, Warhammer related as an audition piece. (HIGH QUALITY ART & ANIMATION EXPECTED)
This process will take 2 weeks, after this, you'll be told if your in or out, participants may still opt to join at a later date, but will have far less time to animate.
2nd Phase:
Animate your ideas. If you are chosen to take part in the Collab, we advise you to post some general ideas about the scene you'll be animating. We will have a few authors collaborating in this Collab so, if you're in doubt or need some inspiration, your sources of inspiration are just a PM away!
We know that animators may opt to produce more than one toon. If the collab is lacking a certain race, try to come up with a good joke for that race.
-TL;DRChosen Members start animating your parts bitches!
3rd Phase:
Compiling. When we get to this process, one of three Organisers will compile the parts together and much mead shall be drank (beer for you modern types :D ). We will also be putting in subtitles, so make sure you save a script of your animation to avoid having to re-write it out.
Collaboration Specifications:
- Bare in mind there will be a navigation along the top or bottom or possibly side, so try not to do TOO much important stuff there (Kind of give yourself an imaginary border).
- White flash default colour
- 620x360 stage; NOT flash default
- 24 FPS (Frames Per Second)
- 20-30 second long parts (however, we are very relaxed about this, so don't worry too much)
- Please try to keep the amount of layers you use down to a minimum, obviously do as you would normally, but to many layers takes up a lot of space, just keep it in mind.
- ALL TEXT must be broken apart.
- Make sure you save your part in Flash 8 Format, this is to keep file size down as saving in CS3 format doubles file size.
***COMEDY PARTS***
- menu, credits, navigation, scene transitions and anything that is part of the general Collab will be made by the organisers - we're giving you all the time you need to focus on your animations.
Symbols:
- keep all of your library items in a folder labeled by your NG name.
- name all of your symbols in this format: 'NGname_symbolname'.
(For example, 'bomblu_Skaven_tail') this reduces copy problems.
Disallowed content:
- Porn, extreme nudity (Unless VITAL to your joke - if it is, send the idea and so on to 'thebomblu@hotmail.com' for a review of the content.)
- Sprites.
- Stick figures.
- Stop-Motion. (unless unfucking believably good)
And now...

srsly.. wheres the next thread bomb? stop playing creed 2 and get your ass in gear lol!
Yep, i mean to get this thread started next week. I'm crushed with deadlines atm - graphic design school... pretty tough.
And i WISH i've got Assassins creed 2... i'm going to have to wait though :P
Any suggestions for the fantasy collab? Anyone?

Id still prefer a comedy thing... Im not totally confident serious would work, but I'll go with whichever end has more popular opinion
Yep... thats one damn fine dwarf there...and comedy seems to be a favourite atm.
At 11/22/09 12:07 PM, ForbidMetal wrote: I mean, no-one really does serious collabs, and do we all follow a storyline with each animator doing their bit? Or, do they just have random scenes...SO, I dunno, but if we can make it work, sure, I'll go epic instead of funny.
Now immagine that. One very decent storyline, divided into parts. Almost like a 'Heavy Metal' movie...We'd stick to a certain genre or 2 of music, we'd change the flow of the story according to the animator...
If done right...if done right... :P
Yes to all of you ;p
Not that i dont 'want' fluff-jokes. I for one noticed that my jokes were all generic and random. Saying that you dont care about the score this time when you were uber-pissed about not getting higher than 4.00...i dont get you sometimes mr.Forbid :P
Now, i remember many ppl liked Phobotechs animation (sorry if i mispelt). It wasnt very fluff related was it? And it's probably the funnyest bit in the whole collab. Basic story? Eldar dont know how to use their walker-guys, fall onto their units, marine says 'the emperor truly has a sense of humour.' It's not very fluff related (unless there was some war when the eldar commited suicide thus the marines won). This animation was also one of the most mentioned as being their best.
(i'm going to keep out my i kissed a spawn cos that was just a gay idea which tured out to be pretty ok)
When we go to the heavy-fluff-talking jokes, like the marine and eldar by flash18 and the fabius geene seed by forbid, i personally didnt laugh, ESPECIALLY when compared to the 'join the imperial army' which for some reason wasnt added to the collab.
Dont get me wrong, this is just my opinion so before i open the fantasy thread, we're all going to agree on the content.
Which brings me back to my inital idea.
I first wanted to make a serios collab. You guys might remember my post with the 'teaser logo' for the serious collab. IMO, if we want to stick to fluff and having a very decent score, then serious collab is the way to go. I might be going against my word this time, but the best thing to do would be to find a nice bit of lore with a good storyline and a variety in action, dialogu, etc and work with that.
We wont need any storywriters per-se, GW fans CANT complain (so we could get a good score unless we get a 'why did you do gotrek and flix? next time make the war of the beard. you get a 0 for the effort). NG fans may than be amazed by the deep storyline which we'd be using from the lore, and we'd be making something epic at the same time.
I had to accept turning to comedy cos Forbid convinced Flashbound (i think, correct me if i'm worng) to join us if it were comedy. Coming to think of it, we do need some variety.
So, once again, i'm re-thinking this whole thing up and sifting towards the Epic Fantasy collab rather than humour.
At 11/20/09 07:43 PM, flashbound18 wrote: humor is the way to go.
we just need fluff related jokes.. jokes that arent what appear to be the result of a simple observation by an outsider (such as my titanicus part) the fluff has to be sort of deep too. it should encompass a much larger range then how tau dont speak english, or how dark eldar take slaves.
we could get away with it too, because you just make a character thats a plot mechanism and spells everything out in his dialogue like:
'gee fred.. dont you think its sill that the eldar, a dieing race, put their civilians on the front lines with plastic armor and short ranged ninja star tossers?'
I'm glad we're bringing this stuff up. Yeah sure, comedy appeals much more to NG, yet 'what' comedy?
From the reviews, i can say a good 20% of the ppl here play/read quite a bit of Warhammer and didnt get our 'slap-stack' humour (hence, the 4.00 rating and not 5.00 - this is all theory, there isnt an animation on ng that's got a full 5.00). Yet there are those 80% who also make up the NG comunity. A good 50% did hear of warhammer, probably played Dawn of War or WH:Online, and know what this stuff is about generally and laughed at it cos they got the jokes, even though they werent fluff based.
If i was an alien and came to earth and someone told me a black joke : 'what do you call a black priest?' and then tell me 'a holy shit' i wont get the joke, cos i wouldnt know about black men and priests.
Same thing happens with our form of parody. Whilst there are many ppl who do KNOW about warhammer, the chances of them knowing the strict lore and fluff is, possibly, 20%. Now i would stick to simply 'better humour' rather than 'lore humour'. Fine, i'd put in some more references for the possible 2% who would like it more, raising the vote to around 4.10 (again, assuming but chances are it works like that).
This is also the reason why i still didnt start the warhammer fantasy collab yet. I'm quite undecided on most of the 'key points' so, without those, the collab can go v.wrong.
If anyone's got any ideas for the Fantasy Collab, please pm me or post on this thread. Who knows, you might have the awsomeestestesest idea :D
At 11/20/09 02:16 AM, Pawn007 wrote: The only way to appeal to all three groups is to not use humor at all... go epic and serious.
And follow an extremely strict storyline, giving us no creative licence. I think you guys might have already experienced lore-freaks when someone makes a mistake in his warhammer lore :P

Definately, comedy's the main problem. Art will be dealed with in a new way this time round so it's not too much of a problem. There has to be a good balance.
For now, for those who want to enter the collab, try come up with a v.interesting and good style for drawing characters. A good exrcise would be checking out the Warhammer: Online concept art for inspiration (not detail, just general idea) and get reading some lore :)
At 11/9/09 12:39 PM, RedHarvest wrote: when can we expect the "Warhammer Collaboration" forum release?
ps- congrats dudes.
Yeah sometime this week, early next week possibly. We wont be promising a date or so cos, as we speek, forbid and i already came up with an interesting twist to a transition scene. Anyways, from the reviews we're getting, we need to fix our humour.
A collaboration is a group of people working together. IF you know of any good writers who'd gladly help out, pls do inform him about the collab and that we're glad to review his stuff and be co-authored as a writer if need be.

Any chance I could get an mp3 of your nurgle song? that is freaking epic (and seems to be a popular part of the collab among artist i have shown this to)
Well, i too am pleased with the result - decently rip a song everyone knows, add in warhammer, and you've got a definite win :D Nah dw, pm me your email or something and i'll email it to you. Though i dont want it to go out on the net as a solo song, i want it to be the sole property of this collab :)
FRONT FUCKING PAGE!
A BIG BIG BIG CONGRATS (in maltese, we say Proset) to all you guys who submitted and believed we'd release a flawless collaboration.
Worth the wait :D
AND NOW (i'll post more next week)...
(ps. it's not for the faint of heart)
MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
IT'S
AALLLIIIVEEEEEEE!
Just checking it out now, i tried to add you Forbid to the buddylist - hopefully i'll get co-authored ok :P
I'll post again when the adrenalin level does down.
At 11/6/09 10:45 PM, magicswordz wrote: Silly little idea~
What if you compiled those three animations that got left out (and possibly the eastereggs) and put them into a small collab. Put that collab onto Spamtheweb and have a link to it on the credits page or something
[this is assuming that the file size of these clips is small enough they can compile together/ avoid whatever problem it was]
A very good idea indeed sir. Personally, it wouldnt make much of a difference and i know forbid would prob begin bashing his head to the desk with the idea of compiling another mini version of the collab.
I have seen a rough cut of the collab, and i must say we did a pretty damn good job. Being picky, i think i tired forbid with all the 'change that bit, try fix the vcam, nono - try keep all the animations in!' etc. but he did a damn good job, so cheers for that mate :)
Having said that, (as i always say) this served as a good way of training in making a collab. True, we had some pretty ugly moments. Then again, i think very few artists get a collab 100% right on the 1st try, i can say we've done one hell of a kick-ass job here. Front page worthy, and i seriously mean it (no over-ego-boosts or anything).
In other news, now that we know what's feasable and not in a collab, we'll soon start working on the Fantasy Collab. I still dont want to give out too much, as we've already decided on changing a big key-point in it (for the sake of all of us). I can reveal to you that the collab WILL NOT be a serious/dark collab but a humerous one. Standard of animation and artwork AND storyline sould be as good as the current 40k one, if not better.
More on that later.
Good luck in compiling the whole monster, and that Tom Fulp lets us upload such a big file :D
I for one think it's a sacrifice i will gladly make for the sake of all of us who've been working on this for about a year.
OMGWTFBBQ!!!!!!1111!!11!!!!!1!!11111!2
Like totally forgot this one here :P

You're saying you're 'Canadian'?
From a place called something like Canada or Canadianland?
I never knew there was a place called Canada.
Or Canadianland.

Cos Warhammer's an expensive hobby :)
A fine day for the imperium this is. Well, newgrounds will always be newgrounds, so we can continue arguing for the sake of us being newgrounders and to keep the thread alive till november.
We can make some new reality show on this forum, i'll fall in love with GabiDLG who was one of my failed experiments to get this thread moving a bit more. Flashbound, Forbid - you'll be twins from different fathers who would then find out you had another brother in the same womb who was a contjointed guy and was sucked into the warp of chaos. Nuttro, you're austrailan right, i'm sorry you cant participate.
Man... i woke up with a hangover after all that mexican stuff i ate yesterday...
Long live the spices.
And we'll rape it dont worry... an angel of the lord said that when i was asleep.
Though it might have been the mexican stuff doing it's work again.

I'll give you a kiss then ;p

At 10/22/09 01:47 PM, ForbidMetal wrote: why do a week of exposure, when we could have all of November?
I subliminally suggested that, without being direct. As always, once the product is good, why not wait? Anyway, it's in your hands and flashbound but i'm all in for beginning of november.
At 10/22/09 12:10 PM, ForbidMetal wrote: That answer is a little basic.
I mean, to the planning point of.
-which country watches newgrounds the most? (America, but which state time is best)
-which day does Newgrounds have the most people
-yes 5-6pm but take into consideration it must be American time.
-and what if we conflict with like a new Bitey movie or some shit...lool
yeah I bet that'll happen :) Adam Phillips will release the next installment of Brackenwood
Even though i check newgrounds everyday, i think friday late afternoon/eveningish would be the best time to release it - you know, the weekend and all that stuff. We're still in time to get some frontpage time (flashbound, dont tell me you doubt this collab...leaving it's dick at home...i cry) before the halloween stuff comes (which is in a week...) Then again, if it's good enough (let's give the benefit of the doubt), we might still be on front page during the wave of hallowen submissions.

Submitting isnt much of a big deal - we're all co-authored :D + an swf is about 10meg max. Flashbound has to submit it due to his betting average (and cos he's the actual leader). Cant wait to see it on
THE FRONT PAGE :D
(ps. windows7 ftw)
Ok, so, i posted a topic and got a few comments which, i believe, will HELP! Plus, some of the info is completely new to me, and it looks like we've been doing some wrong stuff.
(italics are the comments, the normal font is my thoughts)
Compile the swfs in a different program such as after effects?
This is on Flashbound's lines - would be interesting but for the sake of filesize we can keep it as the complete last resort
You could always ask Stamper to compile it for you...
I'm pm'ing stamper once i finish writing this up :D
If its all in one fla Flash has a limit of 15,000 or 16,000 frames.. It could be that you are past that mark..
You may need to break it up or compile each animator's part separately and have one fla insert it by code.
Hope that helps..
If stamper wont help, i'll read some stuff about 'fla insert by code'
This is one of the dangers of working with heavy fla's and different versions of flash (even if the person has saved it down, it sometimes fucks up the integrity of the file when you put it alongside native version files)
It'd be good to have stamper tell you how he managed to resolve it. Although i remember he had a really tough time with it.
This one is from Luis himself, i'll ask stamper
Delete the fla file. This usually fixes all related problems ;)
right....
So, i'm pm'ing Stamper and will post his reply once i get an answer :D
Yeah forget what i said... feel like a jerk. I've got no idea why flash freezes. The most i could suggest is trying to, once again, contact some big guy on newgrounds.
Once again, i appologise. Forbid, Flash - if you need me to do anything just post it here or pm etc. I'll keep on the lookout to help out but compiling is beyond my computer's reach.
Never expected to end up doing this but, here goes...
SEND ALL YOUR PARTS TO thebomblu@hotmail.com OR andrea.meli13@gmail.com
The faster you do so, the faster this thing sould be done.
IF BY TODAY WEEK YOU WOULDNT HAVE E-MAILED YOUR PARTS, CONSIDER YOURSELF OUT OF THE COLLAB. We need to take some serious action now. You can whine all you want after, even if you had the best animation in this whole thing. Consider this training for next collab.
Some small updates on the collab.
From well informed sources, the collab may come to completion some time VERY soon.
Secondly, i designed a teaser icon for the Fantasy collab which will be 'advertised' on the 40K collab (get ppl interested etc).
We'll soon open a new thread for the
