What do you most enjoy about the site?

Working with Stamper on the redesign

Given one day at the reins of the site, what would you change, what would you fix?

Exactly what I'm fixing now.

Is there anything you miss, that you'd like to see back? (I.E. Old Blam/Save Animations)

No, everything removed was for the better.

You can go through the checkout process, print out the first checkout page with your estimated shipping, and mail the total as a money order to the office:
323 W Glenside Ave

I'll take care of it personally.

Ok, well how about Photoshops? Heinrich asked a question in my thread about whether Photoshops are allowed or not.

http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1067 723/4

When you say "we don't want photos", does that mean no Photoshop?

For now, yes it means just that. The art portal is for people who can illustrate. I'm a little sad I can't post some of my photos there, sure, but I can accept that Tom wants the Art Portal to be for people who have raw drawing ability.

Topic: No photographies in art portal? Why?

Posted: 06/15/09 02:48 PM

Forum: Where is / How to?

Many of you have touched on the reasons already. But since you want it spelled out, the reasons are numerous:

First, there are already Flickr, Deviant Art, Google Picassa, Facebook, and hundreds of other sites for hosting photos. Not only are we not trying to become those sites, we are actively trying NOT TO BECOME those sites. We want our portal to focus on drawing. It's as simple as that. If "drawing portal" or "illustration portal" sounded as catchy, I'd vote for calling it that.

Another consideration is that Newgrounds is a Flash site. Our other portals will always support our Flash artists to some degree. Our "Power of Three" contest is a good example of the way we think around here: collaboration is a constant recurring theme. It's the reason the Audio Portal was created, it came into play when making decisions about the Art portal, and it will come into play if we release a Lit Portal too.

The simple explanation: We say "we don't want photos" in our FAQ because We Don't Want Photos. Please accept it.

Other reasons why we don't want photos, as if those reasons weren't good enough: Photo portals are harder to maintain because of SPACE and COPYRIGHT issues. Photography is an art where it's easy to produce a lot of images quickly, at least much quicker than drawing something on a blank canvas. As an extension of that, it's much harder with lots of photos to police which are original and which aren't.

It's just something that we don't want to deal with.

At 6/5/09 02:38 PM, ninjakoopa-33 wrote: Yes, you do. You gotta go through approval, like you do in the Audio Portal. Once you've been approved, your art submissions will instantly appear in the Art Portal.

This is NOT true. There is no approval process like the Audio Portal; there you have to wait until you are approved by a "moderator" for anyone to even see your submission.

In the Art Portal things will appear immediately on your userpage. Most spammers will submit dozens of images that will sit on their userpage for all the world to see, and that is fine if that's the furthest they want to go. Those images can sit there forever.

For true artists, they will submit stuff to their user pages too. Unlike the spammers, however, they will be scouted into the Art Portal. Every single one of their submissions will automatically appear in the Art Portal.

The main distinction between the Audio and Art Portals is this: Every single artist who has a submission in the Art Portal can scout anyone. The moderators do not do the scouting, we all do.

Moving on to a post that really made me angry:

At 6/5/09 02:29 PM, zNelson24 wrote: Also, "if you happen to break the rules...your art will remain on your userpage". If you break the rules and steal other people's work, thats a bloody ban!

And this is what happens when you FAIL TO QUOTE THE ENTIRE SENTENCE.

Please note that the FAQ reads -- and has always read -- "If you break the rules or simply submit bad art, you will be unscouted. Your bad art will remain on your user page but art that breaks the rules will be removed."

Let me guess, you learned how to quote people from your Republican parents? Do they watch a lot of Fox News as if it's actually balanced coverage?

I assure you that stolen art will get deleted. Bad art, like stick figures and the like, will simply exist on a userpage.
