Yeah, I know about these too. I was just trying to think of some things right off the top of my head, and those came to mind. One writer I know (he's a local writer where I live) gave me four pointers on 'writing what you know': 1., (as you said), write what you know. 2., If you want to write about something you don't know, visit it if you can to get that first-hand knowledge. 3., If you can't do numbers one or two, research the heck out of it, which is of course in part good writing in addition to what knowledge you have. 4., if you can't do the first three, wing it.
Also got several recommendations for you. Though you said you've shied away from sci-fi, you might want to check out a series called the Hyperion Cantos by Dan Simmons- the first novel, Hyperion, is written in media res style. Its on my 'need to get' list. Another well written set of sci-fi series are the Honor Harrington (the 'Honorverse') series and the Safehold series, both written by David Weber. Really good reads.
There are so many I'd want to go to. I'd say... the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
I also find that it can be difficult to write. I got several pointers you could use. 1., Look for inspiration everywhere, and even if you can only write down a few initial words, use them. 2., Try to plan out at least some of your content for larger projects (i.e., novels, poetry collections) in advance, and don't be afraid to change it. 3., Work at have a normal writing time frame, like from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. That is the best I can come up with for right now- maybe something more will come to mind.

Some great work. Congrats to the winners.
I'd say its up to you as to what to do- if you someone who can help you out in person, try that!

I takes a lot to be a writer- find a way to not be so negative about writing. I've submitted material and have been rejected- I agree with Deathcon7 because I like the journey and write as you're able to. Don't think of rejection as others saying 'screw you,' but as the means to improve. Find a way to simplify a lengthy sentence, or use more complex language, use something you've seen happen as inspiration for a work- research something if you need to. Yes, I feel burdened by writing at times, but I'd rather have that feeling because when I'm done writing, and no matter how much I have or haven't done, I feel better.
Some of the stuff I've/heard has to do in part with genetics- how the body rebuilds, etc. On the dietary issue, some material says that the amount you eat will factor on how your body manages its cellular respiration and reproduction, as well as how much of that energy you use and in what form.
Congrats to the daily winners!

That's a very good cause.
I'd have to say Thoth and Ptah would rank pretty high, then Ra, Osiris and Bast would round out the top five.
Could go either way- seen girls with short hair and seen guys with long hair.
Hats off to the daily and weekly winners!
Awesome! Congrats to those who made monthly tops!
God, the Westboro folks never seem to quit- I agree with those who have said to ignore them. All Westboro is doing is spreading messages of hate, and there's already enough of that in the world.
Congrats to the Winners!
I most definitely concur with the two prior posts, but also suggest to write exam essay material in a way that you are comfortable with; make sure that its reasoned and professional but with your own voice. If you can, try to write practice essays before the exam; if your instructor has given out good examples of essays from the year prior (including the subject), look at those, and write your own version of that prior year's essay.
I will also say good luck on your essay.
I would have to say that XP and 7 are my fav OSes so far. Windows 8... eh, needs some improvement. Its essentially a modified 7.
Today, I've been listening to one of Newgrounds' best compositions, LARRY: City of Karryon.
Happy Birthday, Tom! Here's to another awesome year!
Congrats to the winners!
I think it'd be a cool thing.

Title: Midst Toil and Tribulation
Series: Safehold
Author: David Weber
Genre: Science Fiction
ISBN: 978-0765321558
Publication Date: 2012
Novel Plot Brief: The Republic of Siddarmark is torn by civil war and hunger, between the forces of those loyal to the Church of God Awaiting and those of Lord Protector Greyghor Stohnor, leader of the Republic. Charis comes to the Republic's aid, both with food and military support; Emperor Cayleb is personally involved. The exiled members of the House of Daykyn swear fealty to the Empire of Charis, and begin their journey home. Within Charis, steam power is officially introduced, and some of the military applications of this technology is used to help defend Siddermark, as more of the Church's allies pour military strength into the war-torn country to advance its destruction.
Review:
Weber continues his exploration of the good guys taking responsibility into its psychological effects on Merlin- as he deals with the pressures of what he's done and what has happened. He feels the pressure of needing to keep the human race alive, while in discussion with the AI form of Nahrmahn Baytz, that there is so much blood on his hands, that he has to take on the burden of other people's sacrifices so that that sacrifice wouldn't be in vain. Narhmahn tells Merlin that its about the need for Merlin to not let the guilt or the past overwhelm him so that it interferes with the mission to get things done- accept it and move on, that Merlin has a large support group to help ease the tension and pain he feels.
Another aspect Weer follows up on is the introduction of new technology to those who don't see it coming. As apart of its campaign to help Siddermark, Charis uses steam-powered river ironclads to disrupt Church communication and transportation. The shock of the Temple Loyalists is that that the ironclads are direct creation of Shan-wei (essentially, the Safehold equivalent of the devil) for her forces, when its is in fact redeveloped technology. What the Loyalists don't see, initially, is that its technology (though fa more basic) that they're familiar with begin used to power military applications.
There's also the fact of realization: Irys Daykyn has a change of heart- that is she comes to realize that the Charis did not murder her father; it was Clyntahn himself who gave that order. She realizes that Charis is fighting not for evil, but to defend itself against the corruption that plagues the Church of God Awaiting and its technological advancement is key to survival. So, she willing admits that its in her own interest to support Charis if she wants to see any sort of reform go on within the Church of God Awaiting.
