Sorry for not posting about this sooner, but as soon as your team leaders is in place, please have them (the leader) create a thread for your team.

Please not that:

1) AN ORIGINAL STARTING PICTURE MUST APPEAR IN THE FIRST POST, nothing too horrible to look at, something relevant to the theme; pretty standard around here.

2) MAKE IT CLEAR IN THE INITIAL POST WHAT IS GOING ON, say that it's for the Newgrounds Shump project, post what the teams theme is, give relevant links for the project.

3) REGULAR BBS AND ART FORUM RULES APPLY, duh.

4) DON'T SPAM, don't bump the thread needlessly, bookmark the thing so you can find it.

IMPORTANT!

MindChamber has agreed (after much intense negotiation) to be the team overseer, the leader of the team leaders.

As well as being part of the steampunk level team he will keep all the team leaders on the same page and he has some really great ideas about the way the teams need to be structured for this projects best shot at success.

Transform and roll out!

I know it's a game I've played before as it sounds damn familiar. Could it be 'Gun' or 'Red Dead Revolver?'

Blah blah graphics...

What about numbers of unique on-screen characters? What about realistic terrain, unlimited view distance? Last time I checked games still had annoyingly long load times and limited processing resources.

Imagine when there can be armies in the thousands of unique players with unique character models and unique costumes representing themselves on-line fighting armies of other players and maybe you commanding them as a general being able to view the entire battlefield in real time swooping about on a massive scale landscape with no loading, no stuttering, no glitches.

We are nowhere near what technology will bring us in the future of gaming.

deadspread83 is interested in joining the project. I'm sure one of the teams would be more than happy to take him on. I was thinking the post apocalyptic or cyberpunk team might want another brain on board. Are you guys game?

You can post jpegs here (one in each post, please) and link to a higher quality image somewhere else of the same thing, but you really must open a new thread with a piece of art in the first post. So, don't feel bad that I locked your topic, just be a little more conscientious when you re post this thread. =]

A new robot thread is fine by me for the time being as long as there is no collab. If you want to do a collab you must make it very clear in the initial post that that is what you intend to do and have some very specific rules about it. K?

Anyway, I haven't really checked out DA very much.. I mean I've been to a few specific peoples' pages, but not much further than that.

Would anybody recommend it, or not? Cause I don't have much (you might have seen some of my mediocre crap elsewhere on the forum) or anything worthwhile to put.

I'm not a huge fan of dA, the site is huge and there's really no quality control to speak of. People just upload whatever shit they want and get nice comments about it, no real crit. I haven't been in their forums though, so idk how those work.

It's nice to see the stuff that get's put up for Daily Deviation and what's popular is usually good stuff (though often too anime for my taste) but it's difficult to get any meaningful recognition and impossible to get constructive criticism. To me it's more of a networking thing than a serious place to make an art portfolio or to get feedback.

That's my two cents.

On a related note though, what exactly will artists be giving the programmers, it would be helpful if they gave us file types, sizes for backgrounds ect. Cuz we can concept sketch until the cows come home, but what finished files would they need in order to put a finished piece in. I know animations require more than single frame drawings most of the time, so if the programer could give us an idea as to how many views of a single piece we need that would help.

Yeah, BoMToons will have the specifics on that stuff as soon as he has it all figured out. He's very much on top of things. =]

Directing the artists, vetoing poor ideas, making final decisions and being responsible for their team. There are a lot of great vertically oriented shumps, I'm positive you'll be able to create some awesome top down ideas and art. IMO some of the most creative ideas come from having boundaries that you wouldn't expect.

One more thing for tonight:

Each team must choose their team leader by Saturday at 11:59 pm NG time. Try to come to a decision by then, if a team can't pick their leader by that time I will assign the leader.

There were more than a few sign ups, so getting everyone who wants in sorted into teams will take a bit, but I'm on it. Once we have teams in place I'll want to see some serious brainstorming for the team your on, not just for ships, enemies and bosses but the level is just as important, I'd like to see some cool environment ideas ranging from the look of the background and foreground to level hazards such as moving parts, stuff you have to shoot to get through and winding passages, if you've played shumps before you should be familiar with these concepts.

BoMToons, coder extraordinaire, has consulted myself and Tom and has written up a very useful outline for the project, check that out as well as a few other tidbits at the NG Shump project index.

Some of the highlights:
Half of the levels will be side-view and half will be top-down, alternating.
All levels will be selectable from the beginning.
Upgrades will be purchased in an always accessible store menu.
And lots more...

At 11/4/09 12:52 AM, wt0 wrote:
Anyways i need to know wich it's the BEST drawing tablet

If you want the BEST then you have to be willing to pay for the best. I've had only good experiences with Wacom technology (I use a Wacom Penabled tablet PC now but previously used a Wacom Graphire tablet). The best Wacom, in terms of peripheral tablets without a screen is currently the Intuous4 line. The most affordable is the Bamboo line.

Now, Wacoms, even the Bamboo Craft, cost a lot of money, so you MAY want to use something cheaper or borrow a tablet from someone else before you even invest in one.

However, I can't recommend any other company's tablets because I have no experience with them.

Things to keep in mind are: pressure sensitivity, durability and SIZE. You should have a good idea what size works for you, bigger does not necessarily mean better, you may prefer to work at a smaller size, another reason to try some out before you invest.

Anway, please post questions of the nature in the Art Forum Lounge. Thanks.

THE BACKSEAT MODDING SITUATION

I don't have a problem with you guys telling the newbs where to go and what to do and pointing out the rules and the proper places to post what they're posting and such, I have a problem when you are overtly assholes. Please try to be reasonably nice, you don't have to be super accommodating or praise what they're doing or how they are doing it, I don't expect that and I don't want to see that, I expect you to be honest and straightforward, but you do not have to be a dick-face.

I know that I have sometimes been a little rude to a passing troll or two, but I try to only do that when they are flaunting their ignorance or acting like douches themselves.

Bottom line is this: YOU CAN BE BANNED FOR BACKSEAT MODDING. In the Art Forum you are generally allowed to inform new users about the rules and such, just don't be an anus about it. K?

As much as the use of MS Paint bugs me, generally it isn't the software that makes the artist. If THAT mess is the best you can do with Paint, don't expect a free copy of Corel Painter X to turn you into Rembrandt.

Get practicing on paper first.

It's good that you're not opposed to recieving criticism, that is a good attitude to have, especially around here where the criticism you get can be pretty harsh (but is generally good and worthwhile to follow). The ability to listen to what others have to tell you in regards to your art will help you improve.

Now you should read and follow the rules. =P

I don't really accept taking stock photographs and merging them together as a legitimate, ORIGINAL form of art. As the art forum rules specify: "If you are starting a new topic you MUST start with a piece of your own original art."

Now, if you have Photoshop, I suggest practicing making more original art from the ground up or keeping it all on dA.
