Now this topic is about terrible film scores, from my experience i stated hans zimmer is an amateur musician despite being an able composer and therefore my opinion is that his film scores are terrible, lets keep it at that because im a bit tired of all this and im not even going to read whatever that bag of air has to say this time anyway.
So wait a sec...From your experience and opinion you think that Hans Zimmer is an amateur musician. That's all we were asking for...for you to say that your facts on Film Musicans is nothing more than personal preference.
No thats twisting my words, my experience is not 'my opinion' its 'a wide range tested theory i refer to'.
my 'opinion' is that his film scores are terrible, not that he is a amateur musician, he is a amateur musician no matter what my opinion of his film scores would be based on the divine measure.

well originally you twisted my words which were twisted in the perception of the meaning of what I expected to be quite distinguishable and turned upside down in your opinion allowing me to twist the twisted words which were twisted

what now

oh yeah, the soundtrack to pirates of the Caribbean had a few good songs, and a few bad ones. does this mean the whole soundtrack was bad, or do we look at the soundtracks in a modular piece by piece sense?

arguing over the definition of words is the stupidest thing that any two humans could possibly argue over.

when I realized who was instigated the arguments though, I lolled, because he puleld this shit in a thread I made a while back

he's a condescending prick simply because he believes his definition of the words music, musician, talent, industry, originality, and all the other words with regards to music today are all correct, and your definitions of these words aren't. he also believes it is his right to tell you your definition is wrong, and that his is righ, oh yeah this also makes him superior to you.

and if you say hes wrong, well how could he be wrong, hes a self taught musician without any formal training, so this gives him moral and intellectual superiority. give me a break.

definitions don't mean shit. anyone who tries to box in music with definitions is a block head. you couldn't describe the act of listening to music and appreciating it in a thousand book encyclopedia series. you could get close, but music was meant to be created and listened too.

if you want to argue the definition of music as "the experience it is", against technical terms pertaining to how music is approached in the mainstream, by musicians who's job it is to make music, then you are a pinhead.

They are completely separate things, Calamaistr

My studio is filled up with high quality, relatively neutral listening devices, but I've noticed that none of them sound particularly good, they all sound rather, well, flat, stale, and dry.

When I export my final mixdown, I tend to second guess the mix becuase I am hearing it on neutral mediums, and my crappy laptop speakers, and ipod headphones I use for referencing.

My Question if what Headphones and/or listening mediums would you recommend sound "good", color the sound to make sound really good rich and full, so I can confidently give my tracks that one last listen before I upload, as well as get a grasp for what many people with consumer speakers will be hearing.

piano is cool. I was just like you, I entered piano roll for years.

even though I have an 88 key keyboard now though im so quick at entering notes via piano roll, and so bad at keyboard its detrimental to use the keyboard.

its terrific for experimenting with melody lines though, because you can really follow your own musical inclinations through touch as opposed to mechanicly creating the melody

I reccomend keyboards, but they arent the end all by any stretch of the imagination

I'm not, and I'm not trying to insult you or anything, because I think you're a really awesome dude...but seriously...100 dollars for a foot of cable? Spending $1 a foot for oxygen free copper cable will yield you the exact same results. No perceptible differentiation whatsoever.

http://www.ethanwiner.com/audiophoolery.

Anyway, I'll leave it at that. I do realise how divided the audiophiles and the skeptics are, and that arguing about these things leads to nothing but immature name calling :P

but there IS a hearable difference. the difference is not in the cable itself, but in the shielding around the cable

I will agree there is alot of hogwash about audiophile bs, and anything above a certain price threshold is overkill, but when you get down into cheapo land, corners are cut, and quality is lost.

granted id never spend 500 dollars per foot of cable, but I would prolly buy a 50-100 dollar cable in a scenario where i needed the utmost of shielding.

for most cables, the issue is not quality, its interference

At most, using a 'poor' cable, you'll witness some extra attenuation of the signal. But if the run is three feet... it's negligble.

yeah but its still noticeable.

I used to have my TRS studio monitors plugged directly into my laptop via a stereo 1/8 inch jack to trs splitter. what i noticed coming out of my speakers was a constant low level hiss, a white noise.

While you don't want to get absolutely crap wire, you atleast want to get decently shielded wire, when you are dealing with playback

I personally have for my setup have the middle of the road wire, 15 bucks for each 10 foot cable connecting my audio interface to my speakers

for your line ins, though, you want the best shielding possible in the microphone and cable. a 50 dollar cable here is absolutely nessecary, especially for guitar ins, and microphones.

I went for the cheap route with my microphone, grabbing a 99 buck seinheiser e385, and a cheap 15 dollar cable, same quality as my speaker cables, and when I pump up the compression on my voice I record in, that miniscule noise suddenly becomes a BIG issue. I assume noise inherent in the mic and/or the cable is the cause of this.

back to the cables connecting the speakers to the the output source, again, dont skimp becuase you will have a nasty hiss coming from your speakers at all time, atleast get decently shielded cables.

On an old setup with single strand, unshielded wiring, I used to get the country music radio station constantly playing out of my speakers at a low level :O

sometimes I use a midi for the main melodies, chords, and the bassline, but mostly I do it by ear.

I ussualy start with the main section of the song, and build all the other parts right on in, but sometimes I will create the song chronologicly

the newgrounds audio portal has been my homegirl for the past 5 years.

It got me into making music.

I remember when i first found newgrounds, and I heard paragonx9 and b0unc3's songs from back then, paragonx9 from the portal player.

THOSE songs are what inspired me to make music.

The audio portal got me into this hobby which is very quickly turning into more than a hobby.

besides, zero bombing has motivated me to get better and better, I think zero bombing has RAISED the quality of music on the portal.

all I can say is this portal has been a blessing, and a major turning point in my life for the better!
