A discussion in another thread brought this up in my mind, but living in Canada I hear a lot of crap talk about America, and reading American forum posts I hear a lot of crap talk about France, England, Germany - basically all of Europe.
Why do people have to cling to their hatred of a whole country based on the actions of a select few? Why, for example, do we as Canadians make a whole lot of unfounded assumptions about Americans when most of them are perfectly decent people, despite the fact that their leader is a moron?
And as far as the American attitude toward, say, the French goes, most seem to overlook the good qualities of nations and prefer to just flat-out hate, in this case, the French, even though most of it is based on history and unfair generalizations. Having spent three months with the French, I found them to be very pleasant people and not all that snobby - that's like saying all Canadians are polite, and PUH-leeze - but they seem to focus their snobbiness toward Americans, whom they dislike just as unfairly in some cases......
<sigh> Does anybody see my point?
