Ah, cool. Thanks.
Also thanks again for hosting and judging. This was a blast and I'll be sure to come back next year. Underdogs unite!
or something
Congratulations to the top 3 finalists, the winner Bassfiddlejones, as well as everyone else who gave it their all!
@TheDoor6, I have checked the tryout thread again for prize details, but your wording left me slightly unclear on who gets what, besides the radio show play for 1st (which is really a cool prize, btw). Could you quickly outline what the winners are entitled to so they know for sure? e.g. front pages, signatures, prize money, etc.
I would also like to know how much money I didn't win #NewgroundsProblems

Maybe it's TheDoor6

I've finished reviewing all of the finalists' pieces. Very diverse bunch of music. If I had to pick one to win, I would go with MetalRenard's metal anthem, but I have to say that Jernemies' VGM racing song was catchy as all hell and might be the biggest pleasant surprise of the competition for me.
Also that's not an official result because I'm not a judge hehehe
Looking forward to the results. Did Clerik end up not receiving an extension? What happened with that situation?

Just realized Monday is September 8th (today), making September 9th a Tuesday (tomorrow). TheDoor6, is this competition taking place in a different year than the present one?!?!
I finally got to replying to each of my knockout round reviews. Thank you judges for those.
I'm also going to review each of the final round entries just for fun and because I like supporting this kind of event. I'm still in the process of doing that, so watch for 'em!

Hopefully I'll be able to submit something, but things are looking gloomy here.
Yeah, I hit some writer's block when I got started, and it effectively halved the time I had to work on my piece. Not feeling particularly inspired right now either, but I should have something ready in time.

Here is my submission; sorry for the wait.
@TheDoor6
The deadline is today at 11:59 PM EST, correct?
Lovely idea, just keep it going year after year and improve along the way!
Here is my audition: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/578317

That look like the place, thanks. It doesn't seem to list the games that my audio has been used in, but maybe it will in the future or something. Close enough!
At 8/7/14 11:06 AM, MetalRenard wrote: Doesn't the "Project" view do that? The P next to your name at the top left.
It seems like the right place for something like this, but I haven't seen anything on my project pages. Unless I'm missing something that is.
So I know on a song's page, if it is used in a submission (eg. flash game) or submissions, those will be displayed on the left hand side. Is there some sort of master list for my account where I can see, out of all of my music, which songs have been used for a submission? I realize I could just manually check all of my songs on their respective song pages, but I would appreciate any knowledge of a time-saver.
Thanks!
I broke my speakers (derp) so I won't be able to make a new piece for the auditions in time. Here's an already existing track for my submission:

Hello,
Is it possible to change the name of one of my already-published songs without changing the "year published" (i.e. what year it appears under on my audio page). I'd like to switch the name of an older song, but if that means having to republish it under "2014 Submissions", then I won't bother, because I'd like to keep everything nice and chronological.
Thanks!
From the looks of it:
SSD: Definitely my OS and DAW -- maybe VST plugins or other programs
HDD: Definitely .WAV recordings -- maybe VST plugins or other programs
If anything's gone over my head here, let me know, but otherwise thank you all very much for the help! Research made easy with the help of the good folks over at Newgrounds.

Wonderful -- one last thing, just to make sure I've got this down. Would .WAV recordings be the only thing on my HDD, then? Are there any other things I should consider?
At 1/4/14 04:44 PM, LichLordMusic wrote: General rule-of-thumb would be to run your Applications & Plug-ins off of your SSD and your WAV recordings on your Storage HDD.
Thanks for the reply. Would my operating system also be on the SSD then?
I'm thinking about getting a Solid-State Drive (SSD) in addition to my Hard-Disk Drive (HDD).
Would it be more beneficial to store recordings (.WAV files) on one versus the other? How about my DAW and operating system? In other words, how would I hypothetically allocate different parts of my setup to the two drives?
So sue me for being unoriginal, but I wanted to try some basic loop splicing/effect applying with a neat VST I found -- what better place to start than with the amen?
I have read the rules for audio submission as well as checked previous forum posts, and while copyright seems not to be an issue, I would just like to make sure I would not run in to any trouble uploading a song that uses the amen break to Newgrounds.
Thanks!
Just bumping this once to see if anyone else has anything to add. So far it looks like CPU is the answer, as I already have an external audio interface -- Overclocking may be a solution.
At 10/13/13 11:55 PM, BrokenDeck wrote: How are your hard drives set up? Do you have one for windows, and another for your music software / instruments? I recommend having a smaller HDD for Windows and another bigger drive for your projects and the aforementioned software / instruments. And how often do you maintain your current hard drive?
I just have the one hard drive, and it is not maintained often.
Those old Core2 Quads can be overclocked easily and your CPU (if OCed correctly) can safely reach 3Ghz.
I'm hesitant to risk anything, as I'm not really in a position to buy a new computer in case I mess something up, ha. Any tips?
You're stuck with 3.25 gigs of ram unfortunately since WIndows XP 32bit is limited to under 4 gigs.
Shit.
How much bandwidth does the Steinberg device have? Consider a dedicated PCI audio interface, such as a M-Audio Delta 44. Also make sure to pay attention to what your buffer size is set up during device setup. ASIO2 drivers are pretty fast, but depending on your DAW, you may have to settle for more latency. If you don't do any live MIDI interfacing such as a keyboard, then 20ms or more is acceptable, but if you do, then anything more than 6ms will be too slow).
I'm not sure what bandwidth is regarding the interface, or how to find it, but I did find a little window that I'll attach to the bottom of this post. I do MIDI recording with a keyboard, and the current ASIO latency I get is not a problem. However, too many tracks, and I've got distortion, so I have to find workarounds.
Also, Mixcraft isn't that great of a software for handling multiple instrument streams. What file format are your instruments? Are you able to use them in other software other than Mixcraft? FL Studio or Cubase are better designed and support multi core processing.
Looking in my VSTs folder, I see a lot of .dll, and the default Mixcraft instruments I wouldn't really be torn up about ditching honestly. I was thinking about getting Bitwig Studio (if it would ever come out!), so I am thinking about alternative DAWs.
At 10/13/13 07:09 PM, PeterSatera wrote: What's your specs?
Let's see here...
(Don't know how much of this is relevant)
Intel (R) Core (TM) 2 Quad CPU
Q8200 @ 2.33 GHz
2.33 GHz, 3.25 GB of RAM
Windows XP SP3
External audio interface (Steinberg CI1)
When playing my song at a more track-heavy part, CPU usage is around 40-45%. "Mem usage" (which I assume is RAM) is at 284000 K. Here is a screenshot of the task manager in case I'm not explaining this correctly:
Hello folks,
As the scale of my audio projects increases, so does the processing power needed to listen to and edit them. The ASIO driver is great for real time adjustments, but too many tracks and I've got incredible amounts of distortion. The wave driver is great for letting more tracks play at the same time, but the latency times make it inappropriate for mixing and whatnot.
So my question is to you, improving what aspects of my computer would help me use the ASIO driver with many tracks (with no distortion) and little to no latency? CPU? RAM? Sound card?
I don't know much about computers, but I do know mine's old. If you would like me to post any specs to offer suggestions, please tell me which ones and how I can access them.
Thanks!
Assuming you didn't change the file name of the songs you downloaded, the file name may have a six digit number in it. Just enter that number after http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/ and it should get you there.
What do you guys do when it gets all out of order like this?
