And who decides which policy is right? And how does all agreeing to bomb the shit out of a country help world peace?
The end in this case justifies the means. Sacrifice and hardwork are needed to achieve world peace. Wiping out brutal regimes such as Iraq and Afghanistan help a great deal. Through the ultimate sacrifice of many brave ment he world is slowly becoming a safer place/
If we stood side by side with America we would be arguing with all our other allies (Germany, France, Russia etc). So no matter which side we took there would be arguing with someone.
Good point, which is why the Liberals need to get out of power and let someone who can deal such a situation win the election
Why didnt the US stand side by side with us on Rwanada? We sent in a general and some troops, they sent nothing. Why didnt they stand side by side with us then? When lives were really one the line, a UN backed mission. Why dont they stand side-by-side with us on softwood lumber, beef etc? Shoudlnt it work both ways?
Yes it should work both ways, but that can't be helped by Canada. American ignorance is something one must learn to deal with and find a way to work around it.
It is a big acomplishment. Not giving into pressure from our largest trading partner, maintaining our beliefs and value system, nto adopting the US system.
Who says that agreeing to help out with the Iraqi war would have lead to us adopting a US policy. Helping out has other meanings aside from sending armored forces to fight. We could have sent engineers to clear out mine fields, peace keepers to help with the post war chaos, doctors, economic support, food, ect. I do believe we have sent foreign aid to Iraq but I could be wrong on that one, but we should have sent it to begin with.
Had we backed up the states like a true friend, definatly... just denfanitly Canadians would be coming home in pine boxes from an unjust war. Even the fucking Pope denounced the war. We didnt become afraid, the Liberals said if the UN backed the war they would send in troops, but if following international law and supporting important institutions like the UN is being afraid then we are guilty as charged.
Give the Canadian forces some credit, we never lost a single person in the last Gulf War. Pope John Paul II (I'm Catholic and have a great deal of respect for him, god rest soul) did denouce it, but I fail to see what that has to do with this. Of course the Liberals said they'd back up the UN. Pretty much any country on the world would say that. Strength in numbers, only the UK and USA have the balls to fight a war themselves. They did try to get us to go with them, but we just fell back and said you're one your own.
Your position concerns me. You make it seem that we musts upport the US even though they dont support us. They closed their borders to our beef while they pleaded with the world to allow US beef to cross their borders because it was still safe. They continue to impose softwood tariffs, that the WTO and NAFTA have declared illegal. We took many of their planes on 9/11, but we werent thanked. We dont back an illegal war that most of the world doesnt support and we are bad friends?
Trust and respect must be earned. As I mentioned earlier, American ignorance is an extremly irritating and difficult thing to deal with. Especially with Bush(an insult to right wing polititians everywhere, included Reagan) it just multiplies it by 50, then squares it. Sacrifice is what it takes to achieve world peace. If that means waiting around while people are being killed in a war and American ignorance is blocking the path of diplomacy, so be it. America is starting to wake up and realize Bush is junk. This could result in a shift towards the Democratic party next election. We'll shall have to wait, patience is a virtue.
