Yeah I'd say it depends on the people, but if you're like most, you probably don't get things instantly and remember them forever.

It didn't occur to me that most people are probably not like me. I remember pretty much everything I've ever read so I never go back and reread. I may miss a few things but I don't think that's enough reason to deny myself the knowledge I could potentially unlock in 9 other books. I just want to stuff my little head with as much as possible.

Which would you consider a better use of your time?

( and for the annoying of you, replace books with "political articles" and leave me alone)

So are you asking if it is better to have a slight knowledge of many things or to be an expert on one thing? I would say a variety of knowledge is more useful than a limited grasp, no matter how deep.

yeah that would have been nice, but hey i was confused about the meaning in which they used vaccine. But it is a vaccine in that it injects dead parts of the virus to stimulate the growth of things to fight back. though it works far differently from the traditional view of a virus.

Yeah that's what got me too. This is the only case I've heard of where a vaccine is an effective treatment after infection. I have read that vaccines might help a little but not much. If this works then I wonder if it may have applications in treating other viral infections.

Response to: aids vaccine, signifigance? Posted December 6th, 2004 in Politics

Ok I read it and I am now well informed.=) I didn't realize that this wasn't a vaccine in the traditional sense and in theory it is actually better than a vaccine because those who are infected are not a lost cause. I am still concerned about making a window for mutations and evolutions however.

At 12/6/04 04:06 PM, ReiperX wrote: I don't see this vaccine being spread like the smallpox one, would take too long to individually take samples and make individual vaccines for every person. Just not going to happen,

We are already spending billions to fight aids world wide, in the long run getting rid of it would save us a whole lot of money.

But then again, if you don't sleep around, your partner don't sleep around then you have a very small chance of contracting the virus, although it is still possble.

Yeah it seems that the most effective way to fight aids will remain safe sexual practices but God knows that battle cry hasn't gone very far.

HIV is actually a very delicate virus. It lasts something like 7 seconds upon contact with air.

What I worry about more is it mutating to the point that it is smaller than the pores in latex.

That shouldn't be a problem if this vaccine is indeed legitamate. I would imagine it would be distributed like the smallpox vaccine and whithin a few years aids will be completely erradicated. Or will it. Aids has proven itself to be a formidiable virus simply because of it's ability to mutate very quickly. I am a bit nervous about how it might respond to a vaccine.

A vaccine does nothing for those who are already infected. It prevents people from contracting the virus by giving their immune systems the ability to fight it.

With a world with natural selection and random gene copying, it seems very likely that the virus may get around such a preventative measure. It will be nice for the people that have aids but i still dont think it would gaurentee some sort of normal living.

It won't do anything for people who already have aids. I am concerned about what you touched on though involving the a possibility of the aids virus adapting. Right now we can control aids with good morals and latex, what if a vaccine causes it to mutate into something not so easily controled?

Wouldn't an airborn strain be fun?

As I have been constantly reminded by hippies trolling the politics forum here at newgrounds America is controled by corporate interests. Sunday is the biggest shoping day of the week thus our corporate overlords will never allow it. Now setting aside Wednesday as the national day of worship might be doable...
