And lo I had a vision of things to be and things as.
I see Nev a few years from now.
Successful, happy, still liking Metal and being one of the coolest gay dudes you may ever know.
Least he does not hit on me.
And I see Duff in college, debating daily for the sake of debating.
I see Kidd, finally growing hair and getting stoned, still a good guy.
Least he isn't stupid enough to burn a church.
And Smeagol, being is as he is.
And Idio, finally getting high and understanding truly why he loves stoner so much.
And Bahamut, I see great things for you bro.
Wealth, Happiness, years and years of the Musical journey yet lay ahead .
Everyone will be alright.
And Ponos.
Ponos.
PONOS!!!
I see you making the books.
Becoming a legend.
Top of the charts.
Wealth.
Fame.
A musical hero.
And this makes me happiest of all.
For when it Does happen I can smile and say:
Fuck yeah, I remember the lil stoner shit when he used to raise hell in Metal Hell.
I knew him when.
And he will play my city and get me a pass.
And I will turn him onto the BEST smoke he ever had.
And he will tear it up that night and I may just jam with him that night.
And it will be righteous.
Yeah.
They may call this just a club.
Fuck that
This is a springboard into the future.
And then the vision ended cause I passed out.
Time to smoke another bowl.
Keep it heavy
Peace

According to Wikipedia, he's 63 right now. But still, the dude can sing. That cover was awesome.

According to White Line Fever, Lemmy's Autobiography, He was born on Christmas Eve., 1945.
He was born 5 weeks premature.
If you like his clean vocals you should check out his work with Sam Gopal on which he played guitar and did the vocals.

Definitely worth checking out especially for free.

P.S. Before people start complaining about BOC's lack of being metal, they were one of the founding fathers, like Sabbath and Deep Purple.

This may come as a surprise to all of you but BOC was considered Metal in the 70's and early 80's.
THey did tour with Black Sabbath during the Black and Blue tour.
Granted they are more hard rock but still, like you said they are one of the founding fathers.
I like them , not a fave, but good nonetheless.

Some mook in the UK is selling a copy for $16.33.
Shit, we only charged like 3 bucks and gave away a lot of copies.
But that ain't the good part, the fucker has us listed as Rock/Punk.

I see a couple complaints regarding the length of Sleep's Dopesmoker.
My theory on the song is as follows>
It should be played while Stoned.
My guess is the ones who did not care for it were sober on listening to it.
It is called Dopesmoker for a reason after all.
I have heard it stoned a number of times and can testify it is a nice fun ride while under the influence.
Granted, you do not need to be stoned to enjoy it but it helps.
Just my opinion but I feel it makes sense.
I mean stoner metal is just that, Metal for Stoners.
So that may be the problem with those who don't care for it's length.
Keeping it heavy.
Peace

Ok Duff, here we go.
First off I apologize for calling you a dumbfuck, It was wrong and I'm sorry.
Now regarding Hawkwind,Yes, They are metalish with Lemmy and have influenced plenty of Bands and have played festivals with metal acts like Anvil, Saxon, and Vardis to name a few. I like to consider them a metal band with synthesizers and the occaisional violin, sax, and flute.
Have you ever listened to them?
Try it, you just may like it.
Now I have very RARELY talked about Rock in here and in fact I am one of the first to complain if the topic sways off metal for too long of a period.
And I love plenty of the newer bands, check my post history.
I have raved about Mastodon, Baroness, Manowar's Gods of War album, Ministry, Mammatus, Heavy Lord, Pentegram(granted old band but they kick ass) Sleep, And various Viking, Doom, Stoner and thrash bands.
In fact I used to sing in a thrash band and I appear on Nuclear Blast's first release, The Senseless Death compilation doing backups with Impulse Manslaughter as well as writing some songs with Death Squad and Impulse Manslaughter.
I just don't love Metal bro, I live it.
Granted my tastes tend to favor older bands, that's what I grew up with.
Just like everyone here prefers what they grew up with, it's just personal tastes.
And for most new bands I have not checked out there is a very good reason: Lack of funds.
Raising 2 sons it's kinda hard to build a cd collection when bills need to be paid, let alone going to a concert. I mean it usually comes down to COncert or eat for a week. So yeah it sucks that I have not been to a concert in over 2 years but that's just the way it is.
And yeah I love Motorhead, so what? Plenty in here do too, they just have a place in my life is all.
And I love what Ulver I have heard thanks to Ghoul.
Now I have said this before and will probably say it again, I hate most Black Metal due to the lyrical content or lack of musicianship. But I have heard and love some Black Metal like Behemoth and the like. I prefer musicianship and intelligent lyrics.
I love a lot of different styles of metal bro, I keep my mind open.
So yeah I come in here to learn about new bands, share stories and teach you guys about your roots when possible.
So that about wraps up my rant, again I apologize for my calling you a dumbfuck.
Please though, Don't EVER accuse me of not liking new metal or just talking bout rock or old metal for that is far from the actuality.
So all said, Keep it heavy.
Peace

And while we're talking about Motörhead, you mentioned Hawkwind several times and they're a band I really need to look into, so which are their best works? They have many albums so being told a highlight or two would get me started.

Hawkwind.
Been around 40 years and have basically put out something every year.
Their catalog is friggin huge.
I have yet to hear all their albums but have heard most.
To start you off I highly recommend the discs with Lemmy.
Doremi Fasol Latido-The first album with Lemmy and a classic, Lemmy plays bass and he sings and plays acoustic guitar on The Watcher.
Space Ritual Live-IMO one of the best Live albums ever, 2 discs of heavy space rock with the band in fine form.
THe Hall of The Mountain Grill-The first album with the Violinist Simon House who played with Bowie. Lemmy does Lost Johnny, catchy tunes a plenty.
THe 1999 Party Live- Another great live album with Lemmy.
Warrior on the Edge of Time- Last album with Lemmy and my personal favorite studio album. Lemmy was kicked out during this tour and directly started Motorhead and never looked back.
BBC Live- good set with Lemmy on bass and vocals.
Friday Rock Show Session-Good live recording, Lemmy guest vocals on Silver Machine.

THose are the Essential ones with Lemmy.
They are the ones with a more Metal sound.

X-In Search of Space: 2nd album and the first with Sci-Fi lyrics which they continue to use, definitely worth checking out.

Basically any disc from the 70's is good , primal space rock.

The 80's are a mixed bag, they dabbled in funk and new wave.

My best advice for now is find some with Lemmy and anything else ask me about ahead of time since some are better than others.

And one last thing, they have a TON of comp discs, way too many, granted some are good but the rest are the same rehashed material, if you want to get a comp let me know which one and I will let you know if it is worth getting.

This should once again keep you busy, enjoy and remember to inform me on what you find and I will give either the thumbs up or down.

I've recently wondered about getting more of their albums since I only have three of them (four if you count the Ace of Spades compilation album I got one Christmas) and some thoughts on their other albums would help me a lot.

Ah, a question right up my alley for once.
The first albums with Fast Eddie Clarke are essential.
The first album is a must for it set up what was to come and it includes Lemmy's takes on the songs he wrote while in Hawkwind. Has a nice biker vibe to it.
THe second album, Bomber is also good.
No sleep til Hammersmith is essential, a great live set and aptly showcases the band's talents.
Iron Fist is ok, last album with Clarke, possibly get it down the road for it is the weakest album with Clarke IMO.
THe No Remorse Comp is ok but all the songs can be found elsewhere so it is not really essential.
Another Perfect Day with Brian Robertson is their most musically proficient album, lot's of good guitar work but Brian left within a year or so, couldn't handle the touring and he did not really fit in. Musically different from all the rest of the albums, good, different, worth checking out.
Orgasmatron is ok but not essential as well as Rock-n-Roll.
1916 is a good one and worth checking out.
I can go on about all the other ones but this should keep you busy for now.
I have heard every release by them and can give my opinions upon request if needed.
The main thing is the early ones with Clarke are essential, excluding Iron Fist which is good but not up to the previous albums' standards.
And a word to the wise, you own one of the better greatest hits so I would not waste money on any more for there are a number of greatest hits albums out there. Too many in my opinion like Hawkwind. Too many labels cashing in on the name.
So there you go for now, happy hunting and enjoy.
