I am a traditional 2D FX animator, so, not doing much tweening or cut-out style animation, TB has been more than I could ask for and continues to surprise me with the ingenuity of the available tools.
I'm always able to tell when something has been created in FL, whereas if it were done in TB I suppose it'd look the same because the artist may be used to the toolset FL offers. But see, TB is dynamic and allows you to step out of previous confides and explore your true potential without the complexities you might find in a software that wasn't "necessarily" made for animation.
I sent you a response by email. Did you get it?
"As an animator, I would definitely consider commissioning you for special effect work if you were interested in the near future."
Most certainly. :)
The water effect isn't gonna be completed. It just got stale, you know. Thank you for the comment
This is my first try at an explosion. I suspect I'll never finish this either...

Some kind of water magic effect. I'm pretty sure I'll never finish this

the file is like 12mb, sorry. I don't know how to export for web really. Anyway, this is a piece I was working on for my demo reel. It's a recreation of a scene from Princess and the Frog. It's not really a WIP, but I thought I'd share because it's also not worth posting anywhere.
Thanks

Howdy. I'm interested! I've studied FX animation for roughly 2 years and I've been looking for some work to beef up my portfolio. I'd love to discuss this opportunity with you.

Are you in need of sprite artists or general, vector animation?

The main thing that grabbed my attention was an automatic lip sync generator. So what's the deal? Is flash for an old style animator or not as superior? Is toon boom what you would call computer animated, or just better?Flash is a bit more superior in my opinion because it uses vectors instead of pixels, which vectors just use points to calculate objects onscreen while pixels have a set number of pixels, meaning you would have to be careful to not make your character lo res. On the other hand toonboom has many advanced features. They used it to make the Simpsons movie. I like flash because of it's simplicity.
Toon Boom is also a vector based software and does NOT use pixel or bitmap imaging. So FL does not hold superiority in relation to the style of line art created in either software
I've been animating for 2 years now. I study FX animation on the BCAFX course presented by Adam Phillips. I started animating with no skills or knowledge of software, but opted for Animate. After about 6 months I migrated to Animate Pro 2. A year later and I've taken the biggest step in purchasing their standalone enterprise software, Toon Boom Harmony. It's an amazing, amazing piece of software. Yes, the money is an issue for some, but the question is, what is your goal? If you want to take your work to the next level, the money is only a matter of spending it or saving enough to spend it. Money should not be the factor that prevents you from accelerating at your passion, and that is animation.
After 2 years, I am comfortable referring to myself as an FX animator however limited my professional experience may be. Still though, I think the debate over FL and TB software is moot. If not for the fact that they are two pieces of software with extremely different functionality, than for the fact that it is like comparing a truck to a car; yes they both drive, but where are you going and what exactly are you going to do when you get there? So the point is, both softwares are capable of great things in their own respects, but just because they're "both" vehicles doesn't mean a legitimate comparison can be made. You'll never program with TB software at this point, and likewise, as has been said already in this thread, unless you possess Mr. Phillips level of skill, you FL animations will always resemble a FL piece.
My advice as an avid user of TB software is to determine what you end goal is. If it's to program, stick with FL, if it's to animate, there's no reason not to invest in software made specifically for it.
The funny thing is that you start your response with an incomplete sentence in quotations which actually doesn't exist anywhere in the my post. You didn't quote a single thing I said, so, a lesson in writing my friend: adding quotations at the beginning and ending of a sentence suggest you are quoting the words of someone else, and since you aren't, that means those are your words, which makes you pretty smart. But I digress. At no point did I ask for help, I simply made a long, declarative statement, which so far seems to be a little to profound for people such as yourself to digest. So I am sorry for my complicated English as it probably isn't your first language.
You say I insulted 'most people' and in fact I did not, I insulted people like yourself. My very specific quote is this, since you also have a questionable grasp on reading, "I think MOST of what is posted on NG is sup-par, ill planned and poorly executed garbage", and I say, "bro", since you fit the 'MOST' demographic, feel free to piss-off!
Anyone else who isn't feeling my approach with this post, I apologize for being so inconsiderate of your feelings...I thought this was Newgrounds, guess not. However, here is a suggestion, pretend you didn't read it and enjoy the rest of your day/night. :)
Newgrounds...why is most of the animation here satirical comedy? I used to frequent NG while simply posting still art. I've been studying animation lately and have a different perspective on a lot of what I see. I think most of what is posted on NG is sub-par, ill-planned and poorly executed garbage.
The thing I keep asking is this, 'why do people waste so much time'.
I would never. I made this post to advertise an interest in a quality story, with quality animation and quality people involved. My intention is to find likeminded people who actually poses a skill to animate, conceptualize and bring a truly amazing project to life. I have a 4-5 minute short story I've been considering lately.
I won't go into too much detail, but I can say that it is a mix between The Jungle Book, Indiana Jones, The Ghost in the Darkness and something of a moral lesson. It is meant to entice an emotion connection between the viewer, the character(s) and the overall dilemma.
I am a novice FX animator. Having studied FX for more than a year under the guidance of A. Phillips, I believe that the quality and dedication I endeavor to bring to this project is undeniable. I intend for this piece to be substantial enough to show in animation contests and to be facilitate planting my novice feet in the company of learned animators.
I am looking for character animators, character designers, background artist and perhaps more. If you feel strong about your abilities and are looking for an opportunity at something bigger than satire comedy and remedial jokes, let me know.
