The songs are badly tagged, music nazis like me hate that. I went through and added correct ID3 tags (most notably track numbering) because I can't stand it when music's like that.
Other than that, the actual music's not bad, although the vast changes between songs could be toned down a little, I mean seriously, Colossus Of Rhodes comes straight after Space? I don't mind a little variety, and if you guys play everything you guys play everything, but jumping straight from Explosions In the Sky esque alternative rock to pretty brutal metal to more relaxing alt-rock? Maybe needs a little thinking.
As for the actual songs, I liked them. I'm a reasonable fan of God Is An Astronaut and Explosions In the Sky, but I don't really know much heavier stuff so I can't really comment too much on that stuff.
Couple of last thoughts:
Yeah, I agree that the mixing is a bit iffy. Cymbals were pretty overpowering and the whole thing was quite flat, although I appreciate you guys don't exactly have access to abbey road or anything. Also please for the love of god, re-record Nihilanth. I could barely listen to it, the quality was so bad. Also some of the solos sounded like a little child had just gone to town on My First Casio, but then again I'm a little critical of metal these days so that may just be me.
Majestic IV was in four parts, with each one sounding quite nice. While a beginning, middle, end is interesting, they were so separate, and the recording actually splitting between them, that they could have been broken up into four tracks. Y'know, like:
Majestic IV: Part I (Resonance Cascade)
Majestic IV: Part II (Broom-fondler)
Majestic IV: Part III (Gymnasium)
Majestic IV: Part IV (Rectory)
or something.
Cover art is a bit boring, it's not that great. The album name is interesting, however the font is, and the font certainly does not gel nicely with the songs, the band, the genre, the album title, the art, or anything. :\
