Response to: New Portal View Page! Posted August 11th, 2003 in NG News

hey tom.
sorry, dont have time to read thru all of the 250 other replies, so maybe this has been said quite a few times already: i dont like that new "Go!" button at all.(as seen when you watch a movie)
the symbol doesnt read (is that a swf symbol or what?!).
the rest of the new stuff is slick... but i liked the old design better. frontpage design improved, but the rest... anyway, rock on.

Response to: Audio Portal Suggestions Posted March 14th, 2003 in NG News

as far as i'm concerned, i'd prefer the sound selection zips. i just don't have all day to browse sound fx.
so yes, please give us sound-packs.
thank you.

Response to: NG Audio! Go! Go! Posted February 13th, 2003 in NG News

simply a great idea. judging from what i've already downloaded NG users have an excellent taste for cool loops.

BUT: this whole idea is SCREAMING for a solution like FlashKits audio preview console. I can't just DL hundreds and hundreds of loops only to see if they're any good. please make something up, so i can listen to previews right there on the site and then decide if i wanna DL. I beg you guys to make something up. thanks in advance.

Response to: Big News for Reviews! Posted February 11th, 2003 in NG News

you want people to review, right?
Do you believe that the majority of the users who watch movies on this site wants to to like write a 10 page review for every damn movie he/she thinks worthy of a (good or bad) comment? i don't think so.

so if i post something like "this is crap" - that will suffice for a movie that consists of a two sec. loop with a stickman kicking another one. any other lengty review would be a waste of time.
and a review like "this is crap" can very well spare some users the time and pain of watching a shit movie.
but this is only my opinion and it's your site after all.

and what happens to "bad reviewers"? any ideas about that already?

Response to: Authors, Awards, Credits... Posted January 22nd, 2003 in NG News

hey TOM,
question's a little off-topic, but i'd really like to know:
why don't i get experience points for REVIEWS? i mean, why ain't they recorded to my account? isn't it somewhat unfair that people who take their time to review a movie don't get exp points, whereas voting is recorded?

i used to review a lot the past months and i'm still fkn level 2. i read the FAQ already but found no answer to this.

Response to: Voting 0 Posted January 10th, 2003 in NG News

well, there you have it wade, you wanted to calm things down, but instead your post even made me write THIS.

my very first submission has been thrown outta the portal because only 3 people had voted on it. it was an ok movie. well, thats life, kismet, i have to accept it. others will, too.

what i don't want to accept however, is that you think it's necessary to tell us that it is "mostly not appropriate" to vote 0 on movies. what the HELL?!? i vote fairly on movies, i take my time to watch. and i vote what I think is RIGHT. not what ANYBODY ELSE thinks is appropriate.

BTW, if you think "voting 0" is inappropriate, remove the 0 from the voting system.

There's already enough crap around the portal. So if I stumble across 3 crapshitmovies one after the other and vote 0 on all of them you gonna kick me?

with all that said - i will continue to vote 0 if i think a movie deserves it.

What do you mean by "now"? We've been doing it since day 1! It's just that bad reviews have been on the rise and I'm reminding people about our guidelines, that we've ALWAYS HAD. You just don't notice when someone's account is terminated or all their reviews are deleted. Who would? Except maybe an author who complained about someone insulting them everytime they posted a movie. However maybe we need to rethink or rules. I will talk to Tom, but I think we are mostly hearing negative things from the small percentage of people who like to cause problems. I wish more people who support this would write in, but they won't because they just breeze through Newgrounds to watch content and don't bother to get involved in writing anything.

------------------------------------------------------
i don't blame you for deleting accounts of people who constantly curse movie authors. it's probably the best way to get rid of 'em.

but i simply don't want this whole business to lead to a censoring of the bad reviews, which some movies get - especially those made by authors who are regarded as 'superior' flashers by a majority (or the NG crew).

i'm on your side, however, regarding the review thing:
reviews must be fair and can be done without personally attacking authors.

Response to: Play nice! Posted July 20th, 2002 in NG News

dear wade
i'd like to know who will be responsible 4 calling
a review "prejudice". you? tom?
i mean, i personally don't care who made a movie, if it's good, it's good, if it ain't, it ain't.

basically, your idea to remove "bad reviews" is against NEWGROUND's very own policy to stand up against censorship of all kinds - we were all proud of that, remember?
now you're gonna be the censor, "headsman of reviews" or whatever, is that really what you intended?

i hope you know what you're doin, hey, it's your site after all...
what does everyone else think?
