Yeah, that's probably pretty true. Definitely cannot hurt to be able to retire at 40, and there'd be nothing forcing someone to stop work if they still enjoy it.

Personally, think that shows just how pan-everything mainstream white culture has become. I mean, white is really really not a proper ethnicity. It's not an ancient people, not a language, not historically a culture, not historically a nation or a federal entity. "White" is a hundred peoples with dozens of languages and cultures. Plus most of them are mixed. Hell, a lot of them have a fair bit of melanin (Spanish people and Israelis are often considered white).

"White" is just a culture predominately made by people in advanced countries, who just happened to (generally) have less melanin then a lot of other people. It has roots in the ancient scientific advances of the greeks and Muslims and has always been advanced by mixed peoples with a common cause. In five hundred years it won't make any sense to call it "white" at all.

All just imho ofc.

ITT - Pox is a time-swapped ancient greek philosopher.

My only reason for not being so keen on all this is that I'd like to still be working for most my life. I don't know, I guess I have ambitions and the like that have inherent worth to me. Would be nice to only be working because I want to though.

Definitely smart to save up though. Also smart to pick up interests instead of hobbies, they tend to be much cheaper and just as enriching.

That's incredible. I genuinely think more people should read this. If a regular black dude can persuade Klansmen to hang up their robes, just by talking to them calmly and eloquently, I think that says a lot about the value of dialogue. Especially when a lot of people in causes today (notably the continuing LGBT movement) react to 90% of criticism by shouting it down.

Even if it's bullshit not worthy of being addressed, it's still worth addressing.

Damn, that's interesting af. I really need to watch more foreign language films, I swear if it's an influential Eastern film 90% of the time you can just enjoy it with a few beers and if it's an influential Continental film it'll be smart as hell.

Yeah, I think little kids respond best to Star Wars because they just haven't seen/read as many stories yet, and all the broad tropes and archetypes those movies employ haven't yet become, well, broad tropes and archetypes.

Yeah, I think that's why kids get any fantasy stuff in a way adults find hilarious. Like, with the Harry Potter books, because the idea of wizardry isn't old to them they get all the symbols with a raw freshness that just makes it... cooler. I don't know - maybe that's partially why you get teenage bronies who never watched girly cartoons prior. It's like they have the same low tolerance for the symbolism and atmosphere that little kids have.

haha I need to write a book

You should genuinely do some research- even if you just send out questionnaires asking for self reported IQ and fandom level out of 10 (it's usually a reasonably accurate predictor for actual IQ if you don't have a whole lot of time). I'm a ridiculously nerdy hiphop head, probably a little less obsessive then the average weeabo, and I'm pretty far out of that IQ chunk. I actually can't think of a standard IQ for the hiphop heads I know, although the lyrical geeks tend to be more wordy and introverted whilst the people who prefer good delivery tend to be more extraverted and not necessarily as high IQ.

There are artsy films designed for people in their mid thirties that use the same themes as Star Wars. That's what I mean when I say Star Wars isn't just for teens, because anyone can easily pick it up and get into the story.

I doubt that it was even filmed with a demographic in mind.

I'd dispute that Star Wars is primarily Western - I'm no film buff but it seemed to draw on Eastern themes, directly (the pantheistic universe shit) and indirectly (largely based on Wild West films, which are based on Samurai flicks).

But yeah - you can definitely watch Star Wars at any age. Like any fantasy franchise though, it's best to watch it when you're really young and you can get properly obsessed with the universe.

I would love a male pill though, I think women would love it too. As far as men are concerned, we can be 100% that we're not getting women pregnant without having to deal with that whole "but I don't like condoms" bullshit. As far as women are concerned, they won't have to put up with the side-effects the extra oestrogen from the pill puts them through. Seems like a win-win.

I think I understand what you're saying (and you definitely have a point about the cost of enforcing the law in this case).

I don't agree with you that the law should disregard people who fall the wrong side of it simply because they have comitted criminal acts though. Fair enough, there are many crimes where it is necessary to punish criminals disproportionate to the suffering they've caused, but I think that's only the case if you believe either a) that punishing them so will prevent additional suffering or b) that what they've done is in itself morally impermissible.

I suppose for me a lot of it boils down to the freedom argument or just some form of the precautionary principle. I think if an act is not morally impermissible in itself, it should only be criminalised if it causes a significant amount of societal harm, with some brief margin where we allow people to do as they see fit. Some drugs (like heroin, meth and cocaine) cause enough harm to warrant very strict controls. I'm really not sure cannabis, LSD and MDMA do and I'm pretty certain that salvia doesn't.

I also think salvia is being treated as it is strictly because it's a substance. If there was some form of machine or computer simulation which had identical effects I think we would have a better sense of perspective. Given that it's a drug though, we're kind of primed with the ban response.
