I would just make a movieclip with all the lyrics inside of it and set the alpha to 0. And then to make them appear, just have a button that has:

on (release) {
_root.lyrics._alpha = 100;
}

To make them disappear again, you'd have to do something with the buttons that makes sense.

But if you're dead set on using layers, you might try using a mask to just hide it?

Check out http://wooshii.com/, they got projects like that for you to submit pitches to. Most of the animated projects don't go as high, probably not $700. And they require other skills like knowlege of After Effects.

To make music stop use stopAllSounds();

And as far as I know there isn't exactly a "play" button. You just have to start the stream/event over again, or write a script that starts the sound again.

Having an Alpha problem. Posted May 9th, 2010 in Game Development

For some crazy reason I can't make heads or tails over this.

Basically, I have an object with an alpha of 0 that gets hidden by a mask.

Elsewhere, I have a script that gives the object alpha=100.

But every time the mask hides the object it goes back to being at 0 alpha.

I'm almost positive it's not a coding problem. Is there some Satanic masking ritual that I'm unaware of?

Initially it was the Super Flash Bros. Once I had Flash it was David Firth. Then it was Gregory Weir and other art game producers, like Jason Rohrer. Most recently it was Pendleton Ward that made me want to pick up the tablet again.
